    HVAC trick a retired hvac tech taught me is to blowtorch the crap off the fins and then wash it with the hose. That way the fluffy shit doesn't just wedge itself deeper into the fins.

      This sounds like a really bad idea, the type that probably works brilliantly if you're not a complete idiot, and causes catastrophic damage if you are.
      This is my favorite kind of idea.
      Thanks!

    Coil cleaner, take the top off and also…. Before hand, hit the disconnect. Spray from the inside and then wash it. Just saying for the condenser coils…..

  • @GimpGladly
    @GimpGladly Před měsícem +4

    The recirc setting and humidity problem is a sign of leaky supply ducts outside of the building envelope. The air escaping the supply ducts must be replaced, so it cones in through every crevice it can from outside.
    This has been a lonstanding industry myth in the region that also has a lot of bad ductwork added to uninsulated attics. The amount of moisture in the condensate pan should never be enough to make the place humid. It flows away, just like you said yours does. If you do have that much moisture remaining, you have other problems and would have water damage all over the area of the air handler.
    But, Handy, you've done it again: you've got my engagement. Well done.

    I got a similar air conditioner that would not properly fit in our 1970's sideways windows, so I made a video on my channel about how I made an insulated plywood insert to put it in, and then into the window. That so far works great and the similar air conditioner that I got so far works great. I also made a removable insert to be able to put a box fan in when the AC is not on, and that also works great.

    Tip from a contractor that does high end resi. Take the old and dated stack switch out. Replace with Decorra stack switch and 2 Decora switches. Use a 3 square nylon finish plate.
    Even a rental would benefit from improvements. Labor is the main expense, parts are cheap.

    I cleaned my condenser for the first time earlier this year - which was a good plan since it's been ten thousand degrees for the past month. The HVAC guys that do a yearly tuneup of the system always said they did, but I'm thinking they just sprayed it with the garden hose and left because it was caked on there. It was all hidden by a big metal shroud... which seems like a poor design... but who am I to judge Ruud in their design.

    • @ibealion1
      @ibealion1 Před 29 dny +1

      Those fins are very thin... the metal shroud keeps them from damage.
      On some models, it's very easy to remove the shroud... on others, not so easy.

    I saw a video where they tested the effect of build up on cooling fins on an air conditioner. They actually found that some build up helped it to be more efficient and it had to be really bad before it hurt efficiency. The theory was that it was because build up added surface area and it only hurt efficiency when air flow was drastically hindered. They were surprised by the results too... I'll try to find the video to post a link.

  • @ALLworldCONSTRUCTIONLLC
    @ALLworldCONSTRUCTIONLLC Před měsícem +1

    Actually it pulls air from inside the house and spits warm air to the outside

    • @GimpGladly
      @GimpGladly Před měsícem

      Yeah, he definitely misspoke at best here. It has a return, but it doesn't have outside air to dump the heat to. Otherwise he is right about them pulling a vacuum on the living space.
      The single pipe style of course. The confusing part for some now is that the two pipe units have the two pipes consolidated into one double pipe, so ... People should just learn to pay people that know things and not just buy whatever a sales person claims will work, and that includes "researching" when you can't tell something is an advertisement or not.

  • @jdshear01
    @jdshear01 Před měsícem +1

    Nice video but I got to say I'm a little disappointed that you didn't toss the whirligig up in the air, in a spinning motion, and catch it again at some point. Seems like a missed opportunity. Have you messed with the coil cleaning foam much for condensing units or is that just normally used for the evaporator coils?
