That reminds me of how in Halo 3 there were plans to have the player fight mutated undead of every Arbiter in the history of the Covenant and with co op giving you the current arbiter to help... yeah that would’ve been supremely metal

It's revealed in his bio in Volume 1 that he's a big fan of Shakespeare and Kubo confirmed in an interview that he'd major in English. So, yeah, he's probably a Japanese-English translator.

People bashed Ichigo for years for "not having a grand goal" like Luffy and Naruto. But I think Ichigo's goal was just to have a happy, quiet life. And right now he looks way more happy than Naruto.
I'm glad that Ichigo seems to be doing a lot better in his adult life than he was during the series. He's not furrowing his brow all the time, he's got a good job, he has a loving wife and an adorable son. It almost makes me sad that this stuff with Hell is happening because Ichigo's stress is probably going to be through the roof if he has to clean up the Soul Society's shit again.
That is the best goal.

I wanna point something out: when Kazui says "everybody's here" that implies that he has walked through the portal himself probably more than once, so if it really is a portal to hell that implies he has entered and exited HELL more than once, and he's probably brought other ghosts with him.

Hell arc, where the dead are rising from their graves and our characters have to fight the fallen captains, is about as metal as you can get for the Bleach return.

I feel it's more likely Ukitake narrating the opening. His whole sword thing is based on 2 fish, his hobby was I guess raising a fish pond near his house, and the fact Ukitake seems to be the keystone of this chapter.

At that point also regaining their humanity is just bonus points on top of that.

I still cant help but laugh at Chad being a pro boxer. He's either horribly cheating, or purposefully holding himself back and is really just an amazing actor at selling "close" fights.
I think its hilarious how in most of these stories "inhanced" people don't do professional sports, like Spiderman not playing football, but Chad is okay with boxing normal humans when he has literally fought DEMONS

In regards to Ichigo's zanpakuto, I think what we are seeing in this chapter is his sealed zanpakuto. Remember in the last arc, Nimaiya said that there is no such thing as a constantly released zanpakuto.
And what if he is forbidden from releasing his zanpakuto because he could cause serious damage to the world of the living. So as long as he keeps his sword in a seal state he can keep living in the World of the living without causing any harm to it.

A bit late, but it was Byakuya who said that (he just saw Nozarashi's release at the time). But yeah, it's likely that is True Zangetsu's sealed state.
Yhwach had the dream where Ichigo killed him with the original Zangetsu. Later, when Ichigo actually kills him, he tries shatters the new Zangetsu only for the original to continue from within and slay him, and he realized that was what Jugram was trying to warn him about by sending him the dream. Whatever happened with Zangetsu happened back then. Maybe it had something to do with Shukuro altering Zangetsu's past or maybe not. In any case, Tite Kubo did it intentionally and has some explanation in his head; however, none of it was ever communicated to the readers.
Ichigo being a translator will come in handy when he goes out west this arc

If every captain is in hell then just imagine, we could get to see the original 13 Captains that started the Gotei 13. In the thousand year blood war arc it was pretty much stated that the first iteration of the captains were more bloody thirsty hollow killing mercenaries and war machines than the balancers and guardian soul reapers are now a days, so that would fit perfectly with the darker themes that a story that goes into the bleach universes hell would involve. Yamamoto would be especially interesting and horrifying to see since the old him is described to be a monstrous unstoppable demon that even Yhwach who saw himself as the supreme being and innately above everyone else was terrified of; Yamamoto even went so far as to say when looking at a portrait depicting the old him that he would never let that monster return, but being in hell may revert him back to that.
side note: Royd even called Yamamoto's original Bankai a hellfire sword so it would be very thematically appropriate.

makes you think...maybe Yhwach was "good" as he wanted a world where there was no death. aka no one would be sent down to hell. Also the fact Aizen planned so himself to be immortal is that he wont be able to go to hell so being sentenced to sit on that chair for more than 10,000 years is the least torture he will go through.
People still went to hell even in the Old World, it was just a big hole in the ground that people could fall into.

the form that Kazui takes always reminded me of Ichigo's imperfect Fullbring, he's wearing a soul reaper like outfit but it looks like it's made out of energy rather than it being actual clothes

Somehow turned to me having a crises about the passage of time
This chapter was immensely amazing. There was just the right amount of nuance, fluff, hype, expectations and symbolism to it. The beginning with Narrator X was very.. melancholic. Ominous and eerie. It also has multiple meanings that we can ponder about. Seeing Rukia, Renji and Ichigo just chilling was just the right amount of vibes I wanted to experience. Adult Ichigo is nice and powerful. He got the life he sought for, plus the soul reaper duties on top.
Szayelaporro came back really interesting. His presence felt powerful with Kubo's amazing style. The new lieutenants clearly have something more to them. Atau's shikai is very odd and so is the fact that Yuyu (hakusho..nvm) fights like Yoruichi Bear ver.
The expectations for this arc bring so many good feelings. We are going to the depths. To the netherworld. It's like a JRPG. Anyone play Persona 5 and after finishing the final villain (Shido) we can continue on to Mementos storyline with similar buddhist inspirations? That's what this feels like. It's like those JRPG's that go beyond the ending and show us a deeper layer of the story that was always there, since the very beginning. I can actually shed a little more light on the whole 'Gyaru' thing and why it makes so much sense that she's specifically Lisa's lieutenant not only from the tech angle, but also on the specific type of Gyaru fashion she represents. Yuyu is what you would call a 'Kogal', someone who wears a modified schoolgirl outfit wth large socks and a very short skirt, usually alongside tanned skin and most likely bleached hair, with other features typical of the look like false nails. If you've noticed the easy throughline for this, well done, because Lisa was known for wearing the schoolgirl sailor suit when chilling in the human world.

It's so nostalgic to be watching a Tekking Bleach chapter review.
I just turned 25 earlier this week but one of my fondest memories was coming home every week and reading the Big 3 on Wednesday evening in highschool (that was the day the scanlations used to come out back then). Watching Sawyer, Tekking, KingOfLightning, etc. was always great. It's just crazy how much time has passed since both Naruto and Bleach ended.

12 years passed and it has been said that it takes 10 years to master a bankai. I dont think he trained constantly during this time period but with all the natural talent he has with how quickly he picked up things he might have mastered Zangetsu completely

The whole chapter was amazing, especially Mayuri. Both his outfit and the surprise laser eyes had me laughing my ass off. I actually had to stop reading for a minute I was laughing so hard

With regards to his original "shikai" it's probably the sealed state of his zanpakuto. I mean, it's been more than a decade.

i support this conclusion. sealed swords dont have to look like regular katanas, (as seen with kisuke's and yama's cane.) I fully believe this ichigos sealed sword. (and tbh always has been) since we learned in TYBW that there is no such thing as constant shikai release. I hope his shikai is the dual blades, which is possible since he still has all his powers according to CFOW which is canon. I guess his bankai is the same as when he was fighting ywach, the white / black blade with the chain.

As I've said it's refreshing to have Bleach back. The most interesting initial small detail is how Soul Society has advanced somewhat and has access to human TV/information. This will contribute more to their reforms. No doubt Rangiku enjoys watching soaps on her break. It serves as a mood whiplash with the revelations of the Captains as probable hell wardens.

Since Ichigo can speak multiple languages (assume English and Japanese at this point since BTW is in England) - how cool would it be for an episode to use both Ichigo's Japanese and English dubbed voices in the same episode?
I don't imagine the series will go that route, but it would be something totally unique that Kubo could in theory pull off.
So this is a special one-shot chapter but I feel like a serialization is coming. I’d really like to see the whole gang back together, really missing Orihime, Uryu, and Chad in this chapter.
