I think a big part of why the cubs are a much better team than they were 3 or 4 years ago is there defensive play. yeah the big bats help but when you have the best fielding 3rd basemen in Bryant and the best fielding 1st basement in Rizzo, as well as a stellar infield, it really provides a boost for the entire team, especially to the pitcher, when they make a great play.
the play at 7:46 would be a highlight for the ages if he was out. gotta love javy.

Like I said over a month ago, Javier Baez should be playing almost every day. Did everyone see him in the NLDS? Baez was the MVP of the series hitting safely in all 4 games, game winning home run in 8th inning in 1-0 win in game 1, game winning rbi single in 9th inning in game 4, multiple defensive gems made at second base, led all regulars with 4 runs scored in series, and he and Bryant tied for most hits 6 and highest batting average at .375. The guy is an absolute beast of a player at age 23. I sure hope Jason Heyward can improve on his 1 for 12 and .083 batting average he had in the NLDS. But for now, Javier Baez is one of the main reasons the Cubs have advanced to the NLCS. Baez... clearly the MVP of the 2016 NLDS!

I really hope that Baez learns to be more patient with pitches as a batter because he could be just as good if not better than Russell then as an overall baseball player then. I really hope that the Cubs hold onto him because the duo of Russell and Baez in at SS & 2B will prevent so many hits from opposing teams for the long haul!

He didn't play enough in the positions to qualify for the Gold Glove or they would. It's sad because he deserves it. Next year he'll be our Second Basemen period. Zobrist will play right, and Schwarber will play left. Heyward will make cameo's in right during times we need his defense and can suffer the offensive blow that is his inability to time his bat up. They may put him in Center Field if we can't keep Fowler or find a replacement for him. Although Matt Szczur has proven he can play Center Field so then again, if Matt can clean his game up... Why on earth would we need Heyward then..

Jerry Krause was once asked why he drafted a center when the Bulls needed a guard. He replied, "cuz you can't teach height". Just like you can't teach all the intangibles Javy brings to the table. His glove, arm, tags, bat, base running, sliding and hustle. He's nowhere near the best SS in history but if I'm picking a team, he's my #1 pick cuz his baseball IQ is off the charts and you can't teach that....

It was honorable mention because it ended up being reversed. Had it stayed, it would have been the Top #1 Play throughout the year for all of MLB.
