    Buying grains and legumes in bulk also dramatically reduce waste from packaging.

    I'm definitely not Vegan but I enjoy your channel. We are a family of seven quickly learn. We do co-ops for bulks. Buy 10 bushels of potatoes and store, deer apples from local farmers for $10.00 a bushel. Basically they are the ugly apples. We also buy other things in bulk and local...

    Great tips! I think for our family of 5, not wasting is a huge tip! I try to have us finish left overs, add them to something else, freeze them, or I eat whatever, for my next meal, not to waste! This saves so much on the gro bill & teaches my littles a mindful lesson😊

      I love that! 😊 Using up leftovers is a big one! I think it's important to just make this a goal - there's usually a way to use something up within a timely manner! ✨

    Buying local seasonal and non packaged is key. Also I never buy "drinks" ie no fake milk substitute, no juice, no soda. Rarely a bottle of wine to cook and drink with the meal. But we mainly drink tap water, and it saves *a lot of money* ... I always make my own tea and coffee. And we never throw away food, we use our left overs to make something new. Also never buy sweeties and desserts, we cut some fresh fruit and sprinkle with some coconut sugar and cinnamon, and voila best way to finish your meal. Thanks for the video, you are the best!

      Thank you so much for sharing! I feel you! Drinking tab water (I am grateful whenever that's an option) is the best and saves a ton of money!!

    Thanks. I have been practicing all you have said for years.
    One additional tip I have for you:
    Why are going for a groceries shopping weekly.
    Let me explain:Based on prices and quality I buy from 4 sources. Of these two have online facility and two others I have to take public transport to buy the groceries.
    So having already secured the savings in many because of the 4 different sources to buy, now to save time I go out only once a month for groceries which do not have home delivery; so not every week. Online ordering once in two months, once again time on my computer. I have a spreadsheet for all the groceries my family needs.
    In summary, except for Vegetables and fruits, grocery shopping outing is Max once per month. (Our family of four are all strict Vegetarians since birth)

    Sticking to the produce section, especially vegetables, is a great tip. Even some organic vegetables are fairly cheap. Organic fruit, however, is so expensive and I still buy it. The bulk bins at Whole Foods are excellent. Thanks for the tips!

      I loved getting oats in bulk at Wholefoods. Unlike most foods in the bulk section those were waaaaay cheaper than the packaged kind. ✨ I spend a lot more on oats usually, WF definitely has the cheapest ones! WF also has a decent organic section and I've found it to be reasonably priced. Some of it at least! 😊

    I buy a lot of oats (instant package) and rice ( pre cooked) because I like being able to make it in less than five minutes. I like the idea of buying in bulk but I'm still partial to instant because it's not much more money maybe I'll look into it .

      I've found oats to be so freakin' cheap, no matter where I am - be it NYC, London, Chengdu, Berlin, etc. ✨

    Where is "unpackaged section"? I never ever heard of it before.

    • @theminimalistninja
      @theminimalistninja  Před 5 lety +1

      Lots of stores have an unpackaged section, where grains, nuts, etc. are sold without packaging. Of course, not every single store has such a section. It's also hugely dependent on where you find yourself it. However, from having traveled all of 2018 I can confidently say that a lot of regular grocery stores around the world do have such sections! ✨

    Hi Nina, you mentioned Trader’s ..., there is one close to my home so would you tell me what in your experience is worth buying there? Thanks

    • @theminimalistninja
      @theminimalistninja  Před 5 lety

      Trader's basics are great (beans, pasta, etc.). They've got a spread with quinoa (in the pasta section I believe) that I absolutely love!

    Vegan cheese is awful. Plus all
    packaged food. I only buy fresh
    unpackaged maybe only wrapped
    in paper that is plastic free. Great
    tips in this vlog Nina.
