It's far from perfect in the US but at the same time children go through far far far far more horrible and traumatizing events outside the US.
Last year my neighbors son constantly complained about making his bed. And even refuse to do so. He was 14. His mom canceled his upcoming baseball game one weekend and had him sit down and watch a documentary about how these children live on a daily basis. Then we spent the rest of the weekend writing an essay "why I'm grateful for my home and my family".
Or raped. I've seen a documentary about young street kids same age being offered money in exchange for sexual activity. It's disgusting and unbelievable.
Sadly it’s likely what she tells them to say. I shouldn’t say that, she could be truly sick. Either way, those boys should never have to live that way. I hope the money didn’t just go to drugs for mom or get stolen or something. I hope it made some kind of difference in their lives… even just experiencing that level of kindness without expecting anything in return, it’s important that kids see that kind of love growing up. The boys were dressed and needed money I know it’s not good but maybe with the extra cash they have the time to get back on their feet. People are desperate in times that others haven’t experienced. They said their mother was sick, they were probably telling the truth. There is a great deal of poverty in my country that Mr Phakhati goes out of his way to address. He is well known and a good man. Plus he makes a point of not showing his face in his videos, only his voice is heard.
