How to Catch Lingcod And BIG Fish with Swimbaits

  • Went out fishing on this beautiful day. The swell was 5ft, low tide was 2.8, high tide was 3.4. Very low coefficient and wind maxed out at 12mph. I used two poles originally, one with squid and another with swimbaits. I show you the method in which I used to get this big lingcod to bite, so hopefully you can do it to!

    I watched this video two days ago and didn't even realize that you put my story in the video xD
    The fish didn't spool me, but it came very close to it. if I woke up even 10 seconds later it probably would of spooled me. I woke up, tightened the drag pretty tight so the fish would hopefully stop taking more line (because it was close to spooling me), and then it either broke me off or bit me off.

    I've been fishing the CA coast for many years. That has got to be one of the best shore fishing spots I've ever seen. Looks like there's nice deep water straight in front of you. My best fishing has been from a boat of course but I've gotten decent catches from shore. Best bait in my opinion are fresh mussels. I just pluck 'em right off the rocks. I've seen guys using squid and not getting a bite - and I've caught a fish my 1st cast with the mussels. But in a spot as good as this one, many things would work I'm sure. Nice job!

  • @ChiefToad
    @ChiefToad Před 8 lety +30

    Good camera work, letting the drone hover there as you worked your way down the cliff. You are using that thing very effectively. That is indeed a good spot. Looks VERY fishy. Right kind of structure to hold bigger fish.
    Swells are most effected by winds and lesser by what tide it is at the time. There is ground swell which is primarily driven by sustain higher winds over long distances(say a storm far off shore), then there is a more localized wind swell(the prevailing wind conditions on shore or just off shore). You get the bigger waves(sleepers etc.) when both of these are in sync. Then there are all the different types of shore breaks associated with the structure in the area. Sometime rough shoreline water can mean better fishing. Worse for the fisherman, but at times fish are very active when it is rough out.(Especially when the barometric pressure is dropping do to incoming inclement weather)

    Great episode: Very cool spot... and, I was fishing for ling yesterday with swim baits from a kayak. (I'd remembered watching this video before so was trying your technique. Did better just trolling.) Got one. Still trying to figure out depths /weights for jig heads. I'm using a stinger hook, almost feel like it's mandatory. Anyone else? Lots of wind and a mixed swell these days on the Central Coast. Makes for choppy conditions. Installed pontoons last year--actually using them regularly after turning over off shore early spring. I don't care if they look like aquatic training wheels: They work!

    swells are from storms that can be way offshore, even hundreds or thousands of miles away. If the winds are consistent over a long fetch, like the trade winds in the tropics, that can create a small swell too. Old video, but if you don't know, now you know.

  • @derryberry16
    @derryberry16 Před 5 lety +1

    The gravitational push and pull of the earth combined with the moon effects the tides the most. So the best way to predict is during phases of the moon (throughout the month), moonrise and moonset (daily), etc. Those effect the tides coefficient, the waves and the swells. Then the local weather would come into play, like barometric pressure, temp, water temp, etc.

    to try to help with your question the swell, it can change in an instant like the other day I was out on the water (I work on a fishing charter boat) and there were no storms but a ground swell came out of no where and gave us hell and then again on stormy days where there is not much wind waves will come up because of the pressure change from the storm and there is a app that i use for surfing, diving, and fishing called magic seaweed it tells wave charts, tide change, wind flow and some other things
