And Mommy didn't get angry or impatient, nor did she back down and let her get out of it. She just made sure they worked together until the little girl did her job. That's the way to do it!

It is imperative to follow through at this age, so that when they get older, you have already established the boundaries and they know what is and is NOT acceptable and what a parent will or will not tolerate. It is far MORE difficult to try to correct the behavior issues of an older child that was not given clear boundaries, than it is to follow through now and establish those boundaries. Imho*

You compliment your daughter's personality and you let her push boundaries in the most adorable way of stretching her self yet your correcting your daughter without being rude or disrespectful. Great job Momma - I'm sure all episodes are not like this one but you can tell from her your daughter's precocious ways and her love of laughter - She's a happy little girl and she loves and listens to her mom.

Time out traumatizes children. She’s obviously been to timeout (traumatized) many times if she puts herself there. 😞 I see a girl who will struggle with self worth one day and allow people to treat her like a door mat. She will need a lot of therapy one day. Parents, please stop this old and failed “parenting” mishap.

She knew she hadn’t fulfilled the cleaning up brief, so using the powers of magical thinking - if I can’t see mama, then she can’t see me, is a good sign of development. I love that she knew what to do - corner,and what would happen next. Mamas response was brilliant -encouraging her to finish the task by subtly helping her. Gold star for encouraging her and not cleaning up for her

As a parent of two adult children now, I know this advice won’t align with the previous comments! Utilizing a team approach to address direct defiance worked this time, but I would suggest to add additional text like it’s not ok to say no to me when I’m instructing you to complete a task or I will help this time, but I have my own work and this is your work! Children have to understand self-reliance and boundaries to help them navigate unhealthy relationships in the future! If still non-compliant, there must be impactful consequences! It’s obvious a time out has no impact because she committed herself! I hope these comments are taken constructively and not negatively!
