Hopefully this is just a bad trailer that shows WAY TOO MUCH.. 1:00 this part felt like a dark comedy.. sadly none of the scares, or creepiness hit at all in the trailer, the music doesn't work, felt rushed, and shows WAY TOO MUCH.
Visuals looks great though, acting looks good, cool idea restoring a dark cursed satanic painting... looks like lots of cool atmospheric stuff, and cool creatures/monsters/witches/slashers/things. The trailer just shouldn't have shown all of it. You should be questioning if she's going crazy, or is it really cursed from the trailer with hints at evil things attacking her. For example the new trailer for Aja's new horror film NEVER LET GO.. it plays with possibility of this could be CRAZY make believe, or all in their heads while showing scary things.. this trailer should have went the same route.. same with trailer for Cuckoo.
Like revealing the lady is a witch that asked her to restore it in the trailer is WILD spoiler, not to mention showing bald demon kid, clown slasher, mutant thing, van helsing guy, black guy getting killed, etc.. like why show the entire film practically? Makes me NOT want to check it out where you had me highly intrigued in the first 40 or so seconds. Trailers legitimately make or break the success of a film, it's crazy. Still gonna check this out regardless.. just my hype went from 100 to meh real quick watching this.

the acting looks rough, like why is that girl circling her while explaining the curse. The way she stops to whisper "FOREVER" is so corny wtf. Movie looks cool, though. Always appreciate practical effects in this day and age.

Is it possible for filmmakers to make ANY horror/thriller movie these days without a female lead protagonist? The only one off the top of my head lately is that Nic Cage one, Arcadian or whatever. But sheesh, like well over 90% of horror movies these days = female lead or from female perspective. I guess it's assumed that women are easier to scare?
Naw it's just the whole representation deal, which I'm fine with representation but we all know these companies don't care for the message they preach, which is why it feels so forced
“These days”? Horror has a pretty strong tradition of female protagonists throughout film history, this is nothing new. But some horror within the last year with male leads: Late Night with the Devil, Saw X, The Pope’s Exorcist, When Evil Lurks, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Exorcist: Believer, Last Voyager of the Demeter, Infinity Pool…
These days? The final girl has been around since the 60s or 70s. Most horror movies have always been from a female point of view. Sounds like the typical fake outrage this generation loves displaying.

What, thousands of years of male protagonists, patriarchal societies, and worldwide, institutionalized cultural misogyny aren’t enough for you? You poor little thing. Try reading “Men, Women, and Chainsaws” by Carol J. Clover if you are really interested in a thoughtful exploration of your question.
These days? Are you new to the horror genre? Look at almost any horror film from the 70s and up. Most have female protagonists. It's a formula that they have stuck with.
