The Mass Stete Police cars, look good in two tone dark and light blue with all blue lights. I think the all blue emergency lights should go national like fire trucks and ambulances use all Red or Red clear. There are a few Fire Departments use either Yellow or Lime Green with a White top.

I can’t believe how many styles and color schemes of police cars in Mass there are.what year did the state of Mass begin using blue lights on their police cars? They originate in the EU and UK from what I understand just after World War 2 in 1945 or 1946 and the concept made its way to the U.S. in the 1950’s at some point? Z then began to spread. To more states in the 1960’s to Chicago,New Orleans Andrew Honolulu . But I heard blue lights started in New England first. I gre up in the San Francisco Bay Area and all I knew were Red lights only, until the TV series Hawaii Five-0 began in 1968 starring Jack Lord. I’m sure everyone remember’s Five 0 who were born before 1955 or earlier. Maybe all police cars nationwide should shift toward all blue lights over the next decade with blue lights being a standard for all law Enforcement vehicles and make things less confusing from state to state?

I guess the purpose for some fire departments to,use Yellow our lime is because those colors stand out better at night for safety reasons? Do any Fire Depts. in Mass paint their Fire trucks Yellow or Lime Green and White?

I wonder why any police department came up with the colors Pink,Yellow like a Yellow Cab for a police car? One police car in the group was even purple. I’m surprised even take those cars seriously as a police car, when most are either blue, and white, black and white or all, white or black and some a stripe.pink or Yellow do not seem like and color for, regular patrol car. How could anyone who does not live in that area to locate,a police car if they need help and trying to flag down an officer for help? I ,could understand unusual colors like Pink,Hellow or purple used for undercover units. But regular patrol cars should painted either a standard Blue and White Black and White or green and white or white or black with a stripe of some in blue, green on the side. Like most Fire Trucks are Red or Red and white.

Is there a state law requiring all blue forward-facing lights or is it up to individual departments?

    • @irishtisme1794

Most states require police to have all blue with generally one red steady burn.
Reds mainly for fire and ems

    • @iannorris1628
      @iannorris1628 Před 5 měsíci +1

@@irishtisme1794 that doesn't sound right. Only California requires a red steady burn and nearly every police car I've seen has had red/blue lights

      @@iannorris1628 let me explain further.
So most southern states have all blue and one red light on cop cars because red and white are fire/ems.
Northern are all red and white mainly newyork and parts or maine.
West cost is red and blue.
East coast are normally blue and white.

Hey man to answer your question yes it’s state law in Massachusetts to have forward facing blue lights.
Same thing for the back but reds are allowed from the back but it can’t take up the entire light bar small single red lights are allowed. This law is exclusive to Massachusetts. Other east coast states use red and blue and it’s up to departments on which lights to use.
In Massachusetts, every municipal, county, and university police departments including state police must have forward facing and rear facing blue lights and must follow that law.
Federal Law Enforcement vehicles are exempt from this law and you will find them using red and blue light bars in the state.
Surprisingly There are 2 hospitals in the state that are allowed and currently have blue emergency lights on their vehicle. Mass general and umass memorial. But mass general is not really a police department it’s a private organization and doesn’t carry guns or can arrest people.
However umass memorial is a state owned/ran hospital owned by the university of Massachusetts which is also state ran.
And they have their own police department. And they have full law enforcement powers they carry guns and can arrest people. Same thing with the umass schools since they are state ran campus police are a full fledge police department and can also arrest pull over people and they are required to carry guns.
