    8:45. Minor point, but the convention for the wind vector is a triple arrow. A double arrow is the heading vector and a single arrow the track vector.

    Hi there ,
    Just came across your vid . Brilliant ! Really well explained ,I will mark this one as a Favourite to go back to
    A few times I am sure . Wonder who flew with at Liverpool ? I am a long standing PPL at Liverpool
    Flying School since 2000 ! Loads of hours in over the period and flew all over the place, by choice I have not gone for my ppl ,I simply love flying .They guys are geeing me around to sitting the exams now . I have had the books and have read them front to back but still never felt the urge to go and sit the exams (Did do the R/T a while ago and passed that one ok ) I must do something now I have retired !
    Great Vid man ! I will look for your others .Surprised I have not come across yours before as I am an avid CZcams viewer of all things PPL etc .
    Well done... Ron

    • @av8bear385
      @av8bear385 Před 4 lety

      Hi Ron,
      Thanks for the comments! Yeh I have most likely seen you on the apron at some point. I flew with Ian who is now instructing with LFS. I’m now flying G-GYAV which is hangered at Keenair.
      You should continue doing your PPL and try to complete. The experience gaining your PPL is amazing but once you get your licence it’s like having a new set of wings! Literally! There are some amazing little airfields around the UK.
      If you are worried about exams I would suggest doing a week’s course with Linda Wheeler down near Denham. It is a bit costly but well worth getting all of your exams done in a week. I used her for a couple of exams where I needed some extra tuition and understanding. There are other people more local who do this also but not sure of their prices.
      Go for it! You will never look back. Hopefully see you around at LPL.
      Best wishes!

    Hi Av8 Bear. Great video but a couple corrections if I may (from a flight instructor). You mentioned adding deviation - that can only be done from the deviation card in your aircraft (its the local magnetic field i.e. radio etc), you need to be adding the VARIATION also - thats what comes from the map. When you added the 2 degrees you were actually pointing at the longitude. Slightly to the left of where you were pointing was the Isogonal that was reading 1.5 degrees (in the UK they are more diagonal dashed lines). Only a small difference I know but variation changes over time, obviously longitude doesn't - it just happens on your video they are about the same. If you flew in the USA or Canada they would be very different numbers. Kind regards - keep up the videos!

      Hi there, thank you. Everything in my plog is IAS. I suppose for pin point accuracy you could convert to TAS and just add in another column to the plog but for PPL level IAS is accurate enough for the altitudes usually flown. Thanks

    Thank you for uploading, 1 question though. Before correcting heading to 207 and 203, u calculate a deviation of 26 degrees. Shouldn’t they be 207 (181+26) and 200 (174+26)? Then add 2 degrees to these numbers. U said 207 but wrote 205, was this a mistake or am I forgetting something.

      To an extent yes, perhaps local flights in not as much detail. You have to check certain things like weather and NOTAMS. Once you qualify you can use an electronic flight planner which makes things much quicker. However during training this is the way.
