The title says it all. Very well made instructional for beginners and thank you for helping make the world a better place.
Thanks! I will make more of these!
4 years on and still super relevant! Thanks for making this for us older cats who weren't sure if this might be too 'newfangled' for us 😊
Awesome! Thanks so much!
I'm 40 and I was hesitating about buying one of this I never ride a skateboard before I was hesitant about buying this, but you just changed my mind! Thank you so much!
Awesome! You will love it! And if you have Facebook. You can join our group..Over 40 OneWheel! Enjoy!
Hey Jorge :) so we are trying to legalise is in the Netherlands and the biggest issue is safety and that it's hard to ride.
How was your experience in learning?
And have you learned how to do a quickstop? If so how long did it take u to learn this?
2 years later, are you still alive? :D (asking for a "friend")
48 and I am going to break the 1000km in a few days 😉 go for it
Good advice from Rick. I see others stating their age in regard to when they started Onewheeling; I am 70, started around Christmas 22. I retrofitted a MagWheel to a VESC controller and my board is doing what I need.
That’s amazing!
Wow that's great. I'm 54 and I thought maybe in was getting too old but I decided to also resurrect my old magwheel and did a VESC build and upgraded the Trotter T1 battery. These days I'm loving it!
Seeing all these older riders in the comments makes me so happy. I am 19 with big feet and have never ridden a board, this video is of great help
Yeah. I got size 15 US. It makes a difference. Everyone said to get Vans to ride with. But Van’s doesn’t make shoes that big.
68 and recovering from a spill while first learning to ride my pint....nice video...thanks.
68 and on a Pint??? Good for you! Hope you're still at it!
I’m 3 weeks into my XR and loving it. I’m in my early 50’s with a lot of snowboarding experience than I care to admit. It’s refreshing to see older guys into this new gadget! Thanks for sharing and making the world a better place (as someone already stated). 👍💪🏼
I'm 48 but in poor health. I'm very good with balance, and in my past I rode bikes, unicycles, I used to sell segways and taught people how to ride them.
So I was thinking it might be great for me because I can't drive due to my health issues, and with this I could get to a bus, or ride it to where I'm going.
It gives me hope when I see someone a few years older then me riding one. I definitely will buy and use all the safety stuff you recommend plus gloves so I don't mess up my hands that bad.
I'm currently saving for the XR and planning on getting it in October. It's very hot out here near Las Vegas so I wouldn't be riding it much in the summer anyway.
Thanks for the great video.
Do it Rory, you'll love it!
If you do get these please do yourself a favor and invest in fang minis to avoid nose diving while riding the board
I've watched a ton of these videos prior to buying one for my ten year old. This was one of the best videos I've seen. Simple and to the point.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video Rick, well done and appreciate the advice and the push. I'm 67 in pretty decent shape, and the Pint X has been sitting in the basement for 2 weeks, I was nervous but not anymore, thanks to you.
Last couple months, I've been getting into electric bikes, scooters, and skateboards and having s blast.
Do me a favor, if you ever feel like the one wheel is getting too much for you, try the Cycleboard Rover. A lot of fun, sun in your face, still enjoying the carving, but totally SAFE. Your wife would probably enjoy riding it as well, trust me.
Will get back to you in a couple days on the Pint progress. Let me know if you have any questions on the Cycleboard.
Rick, I'm sorry, I didn't know. I'm truly sorry for your loss.
Thanks! It was tough. But thanks for the input on the Cycleboard Rover. Looks interesting. Kinda expensive though. I’m working on a OneWheel goKart idea. Should be about the same price but a few parts at a time. Welding it now. Lol
Thanks for the video my one wheel xr just delivered today, cant wait to learn to try to ride it when I get home.
Great clip Rick, I've got an XR on order, can't wait! it's great seeing so many walks of life getting into these things, and good on you for respecting your environment 🤟
Thanks Evan!
I'm a year late to this video, but I just started riding a onewheel pint! I like the explanations in this video, and the editing is superb! Just goes to show two things, no matter how young or old you are, you're gonna love things on wheels and also that anyone can ride a onewheel with some practice. I rode my pint to work yesterday for the first time, and my boss who was a skateboarder back in the day and who is a bit over 60 yrs old got kind of curious as to what it is, and he decided he wants to ride it, so I let him use it for a bit. I told him to hang on to me the very first time he got on it, he didn't do it of course, so after a bit the Onewheel got away from him and his foot got caught in front of the fender and needless to say he fell over, but that experience didn't deter from him wanting to spend more time on the Onewheel, of course he said he'd like to spend more time on the Onewheel. The Onewheel definitely sparks curiosity among many age groups! ✌️🤙👍
Awesome! I’m 57 and still riding even after a broken leg from being stupid on it .
@@RickMelges Oh man! You are a champ! Good on you for not giving up even after a broken leg! 🤜🤛 👍🤙
Good video rick. 10/10 would watch again
I turned 63 soon and I am getting one for my birthday. Also getting one for my 18-year-old daughter.
Awesome! Make sure you have all the safety gear ! Hope you have great times together!
How about an update? 😊
That’s rad young man….I’m 57 🤠
Great vid. Age is just a number (you’ve proved it). Awesome work and skill dude. Subbed
Awesome!! I really want one
Great video!
Thanks!
This guy gives me hope.
Great instructions
Just came across your page and we have the same interests- just a few years in between us! Got a new sub
Thanks so much!
you sir are a legend
Great video man
Thanks!
Should have said, I’m 40 and have my onewheel xr in order.
I think you’re awesome. People need to pick their trash up....it’s the little things 👍👍👌
Awesome! Cheers!
Thanks!
Rick the legendddd
Hehehe, thanks!
Dude, you rock!
Thanks for watching!
63 and in great shape
Got my 1st pint
Looking forward to riding
I turn 63 and plan to get one soon. How did it work out for you?
There's hope for the older crowd!!! Thanks!!
This is perfect for the commuting I plan to do after I move.
Nice! Float on my friend!
Your video has inspired me to continue to try and do the OneWheel. Tried it twice and really couldn’t do it. But I think I can and will use pads next time 😂 Awesome video.
Thanks! You can do it!
Thanks for the video Rick! I just bought the XR for my son for XMAS, but I've been hooked on watching these videos and I think I might get one for myself (I'm 68). Do you avoid riding on hard surfaces and how long had you been riding when you made this video? Thanks.
I had been riding for about 8 months before making this video. I started out on grass. But even a grassy field is hard as it is really bumpy. What I did is got used to riding the bumpy fields until I could do it at a good speed with confidence. Then tried going slow on pavement. This helped my confidence level. I have seen other videos where they set up cones in a field to maneuver Around. That will also help you. Try doing them going clockwise then try counterclockwise. Then try figure 8 s.
Rick, if you're still alive and kicking...you should take up paragliding/paramotoring with us too. Seriously I just bought my adult son a lightly used XR. He was visiting for a week. While he was out of the house yesterday, I started riding the XR and now I may not send it to him after he flys back home. I might keep the XR and just order him a GT.
Yes. Still alive! Awesome about the purchases! I’m thinking about ordering a GT also!
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
It’s like kick the can, the more you play the younger you get.
We are the same age protective padding is must...even wrap the ankles and wear high top boots...good vid
Thanks! High top Boots, Hmm? I find that boots make it difficult to dismount with. something about the stiffness and the size for me. I wear size 16s. lol
RickMelges if you want more control and comfort I recommend skate shoes(i have Vans Low Tops but any Low Tops will do), float life concave kush pad(you are a big dude so maybe "craft & ride onetail +" would be better for you) and pro ride traction pads.
Brilliant video! Was this your first experience with a board Rick? Or did you have rollerskate, skateboard roller blades or perhaps skiing experience. Just trying to gauge how difficult it would be for a person that only has roller skated, with traditional skates, not blades.
I had rode a skateboard as a kid, and never got the hang of skiing, but snowboarding I loved! People say one wheeling is the combination of skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing. But you can’t relate one of those to the OneWheel experience. It is its own style.
@@RickMelges thank you..
Just bought a new tire for mine off cl the fellow I bought it from was surprised at me riding I asked him if he thought I was too old he said I was very mature I'm 72 years young and still injoying my childhood never rode a skateboard
Awesome!!
good video thx :)
Thanks!
If you lead with your right foot some us called it goofy foot, and if you lead with your left foot some us called it regular!!! By the way awesome video🏝
Yeah, good snowboard terms. I have always been goofy foot.
Cool
Thanks!
That’s cold?!?!?! Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! Sorry. This video is awesome. I just laughed because I am from Wisconsin. Sorry. Love these vids! 👍
Lean back if you deactivated your board to prevent accidents. Also it's easier to learn the quickstop if you start learning to step off whit your front foot first
Thanks for watching!
I have never snowboarded, skated, rollerblades or used a hoverboard board... But I really want to learn how to ride a one wheel... How hard is it on a scale from 1-10?
I would say as one who had skateboarded and snowboarded about a 5. If you can find a OneWheel dealer in your area. They might have a loaner board to help you learn. Also you can rent a board at friendwitha.com/ for someone local. Or have one shipped to you to rent from suprents.com/onewheel-rental/ I hope this helps you.
Nice vid. Thought you were older. Sorry. Then I looked at your other vids. You're not old yet, man. I like your vid skills. I will sub and check out your other content. I am planning to make OW vids soon. Don't break a hip old man!!!. Just kidding.
Thanks Abel! Going Snowboarding in a week, I hope not to! lol
+1 sale for an older person. Thanks for giving me hope this experiment will work out okay!
Right On!
How old are you? I am 52 should I go for this thing? I love adventure!!!
How long you been riding?
What are good wrist guards, and where did you buy your equipment?
I'm 55, I Love this this board. Been riding for a year now! I bought a BMX kit with Elbow-pads, kneepads, and wrist guards for adults from a local sporting goods store. There are many other wrist guards that are better.

Yeah good guess
RWHEEL LOVE i am days away from my 60th birthday, so my wife ask me what i wanted for my birthday! And i said a one XR!!! So she said what’s a one wheel XR? SO I Went on Utube and showed her! First she said I’m to old, then she said it cost to much! Then she said I’m going to get hurt!So i told her as a carpenter putting up high rises its not dangerous, so i told her you of all people should know me better!!! So my point is you know your mind and body better then anybody!!! Don’t let anybody stop you from in joying life!!! By the way i got my wish! Got my early birthday present been riding six days miner bumps and bruises but still riding it like i stole it HAHAHA LIFE IS TO SHORT ENJOY THE RIDE🤙🏽🏝
My kid said ”dad that’s an old guy thing! Don’t do it” lol still doing it.. nobody tell her,but I’m old🤷🏻♂️🤣
First off, Respect! I'm aware I'm getting older by the day, but hope to always be young at heart like Rick.
Secondly, perhaps stance on the board could be explained a little better. Left foot in front, aka Regular Stance, or Right foot in front, aka Goofy Stance. Try sliding on wooden or tile floor with your socks on, you'll find out which stance you are with very quickly, as you'll naturally favor left or right foot in front right away. It will be the same for when you skateboard, surf or snowboard!
I agree! I tried a little to explain that. I did not want to get caught up in words like “goofy” or “regular” since it was a feel and most people don’t want to “be” goofy, like me! I use the goofy stance.
I’m a total whimp compared to this badass boomer. Time to get on the board and stop being scared. Not today tho, it’s raining. Maybe tomorrow if I’m not busy…
Yeah. Go at a easy pace to start. And if you have a flat park with grass. Good to start there. That’s what I did.
How come when you lift up your lead foot heel, the lead footpad goes down??? Thought the rear footpad goes down?? I'm 🤔
Well where the split pad is, you have to lift your heel. This is easier that lifting your toes. Some people ride the board with the split pad in the rear. Not me.
Hello what’s your air pressure on that ?
It depends on the terrain and weight. I weigh about 260 and the terrain is gravel and hard packed dirt so I usually want it at about 20psi. Some lighter riders would want it less than that.
can you make one video in 2022, im want to buy me one but i,m not sure if they are good
Unfortunately, I don’t ride the OneWheel standing up anymore after I broke my leg on it. I’m almost 60 now and a little worried about braking more bones lol!
czcams.com/video/IQVt8e1hiJ0/video.html
IF U DID IT AM BUYING IT
these are a blast i enjoyed this, thank you for your upload! great looking snow also
remember people, don't litter. as far as we know we are the only ones out here in space! be kind to your round* planet.
(there might be aliens)
Thanks!
im getting one. what u think an xr+ with 15 miles should cost? scuffed up at bottom
Oh, you are buying a used one? They maintain their value pretty much. Only 15 miles on it might be fairly close to the original price. Maybe $1750 or so.
Have you tried one or rented one?
@@RickMelges no I haven't. Just been wanting one for a long time now. I use to roller blades a lot in my 20s. Gave it up cuz of knees. Now in 30s and onewheeling looks like my way back in
I jumped in to my onewheel because I wanted one so bad too back in 2017. But these days there are lots of places that you can rent a pint or an XR to see which one is right for you. Also because of the popularity of OneWheel there are lots of groups forming around cities. I encourage you to get involved with groups around you. Way mor fun to ride in a group!
@@RickMelges you find these groups in the app or social media sites?
Thanks for cleaning up Rick that got my sub 🤙living in southern California we are being forced to except the continual tash dumping of street vagrants aka homeless, and the cultural difference in the mass immigration flow seems to not know what a trash can is . We cant save the world by letting others trash our backyards.
Sorry for the rant. I ride by my local river all the time and use to enjoy the beauty of nature. Now I just cringe at the mass amount off people and the lack of concern for any of their trash.
Yeah I understand your gripe
What does the yellow light mean
You mean on the Punt and the GT? Usually an error code and It depends on how many blinks you see! There is a guide that tells you what they mean.
fallman.tech/onewheel-error-codes/
Did I understand you were from Durham? Let me know when you wanna float.
Hey Patrick!
I envy you. I ride a Pint and my ankles seem to be too weak to ride on gravel or dirt roads, or even some gnarly pavement. Maybe it’s cuz of the more rounded tire, and smaller footpads? I also have big feet, too big for the Pint’s pads. Hmm.
My feet stick out over the edges even so. I have to place my front foot just right so I can lift my heel properly otherwise it won’t disengage. I feel for you on the pint though. Hang in there until you can get an XR!
Mine is coming today. I’m 59 but what the heck right? Great video for beginners. Thanks
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
I’m 62 and just got a pint. Taking it slow and careful. Nothing to prove here. Balance is everything
59 here.. waiting for mine.. yeah!!
It’s been 3 years Laura, how about an update?
imagine being this guy trying to explain to the dr why your ish is jacked up.
?
how much for onewheel?
Onewheel.com
The Pint is the one most affordable
Where is the knee pads, mouthpiece, steel toe boots, safety glasses and harness?
Lol! Thanks for watching!
Great video.... but anyone who can't do a diving front roll is going to get wrecked .
You must have some life time experience in something that involves lots of falling ..... lol
I do!
‼🤣👀 *I'd kill to be 55 again !* Yes.... gear UP and wear a helmet at all times. _( 67 yo board noob. )_
Right on! Float safely my friend!
I’m afraid to ride on pavement.
I understand! I was at first, I found a large grassy park area that wasn’t too bumpy to ride. I rode and fell a bunch. But it got my confidence up. Then I experimented with concrete paths at the park. Soon streets near grass.
Get gear that protects you well. Don’t skimp on that equipment. I have learned that good gear recommended by many people is worth its weight in gold.
Don't break a hip ol man 🤣
Trying not to!
63 and in great shape
Got my 1st pint
Looking forward to riding
How is the riding going?
