Love the video Kenny. I’ve flown the R22, 44 and the R66. I love them all, if you fly the Robinsons smoothly and you give them the respect they deserve then you won’t have a problem. The people who have problems with the Robbie’s are the ones that usually treat the helicopter like a toy. You need to respect aircraft, but that applies to any aircraft you fly whether that be a plane or a helicopter.

You buy the machine and get a good flight school to operate it . Insurance & Maintenance covered. You book your times.
At 1500 hrs sell the R-22 and use the overhaul money to use as down payments on the next 3 machines (financed down)
Rent the machines as before. School grows common costs reduced. You book your training / flights and a bit of revenue
Floyd had one Cessna and a Brantley when I met him and He got his 1st R-22,
When I left he had a Bell 205, two Bell 47s, Three 206s, Two 500s 1 H 300, a dozen R-22s, six Cessnas and a short time a Bell 222. Yea those were good days - I told guys to buy the machine and rent the instructor and when you decide it's not for you sell the machine, They've always thanked me for the advice. Some guys got well rewarded for it. Those who treated it like a toy? Failed.

So you buy the helicopter and let the flight school operate it for a "leasing fee"? This pays for insurance and maintenance, or is this taken care of by the flight school without you getting involved? Then if you want to fly it, you coordinate with the flight school and book your flights like a student with/without paying the flight school?

Back in 2002 I bought a new R22 beta II and learned to fly in it… two years later I traded up to an R44 - great machines and as safe as the pilot flying them…

Kenny, great video and very informative. Thank you. Do you know what the status is for the Helicopter ATP rating as it relates to the new ACS standards?

    • @HelicopterGround
      @HelicopterGround  Před měsícem

The general changes from PTS and ACS are not that significant. Different verbiage and order with a few things added or changes.

He should do instrument before the commercial check ride! Definitely will save him time especially if he has that 22 with appropriate instruments etc… He will need 5 hours of simulated anyways for commercial 🤘

If I could afford my own R22, I'd of never gotten my commercial, and definitely not have done IR training,...that type of flying was so monotonous and boring it made me actually start to hate flying!
I did the touchdown auto course with Jerry in his little yellow HP 22. Lots of fun!

training outside of a busy zone saves you $, That .1 wasted get in and out, costs ya. ever want to be near mountains, train near them or stay clear. the 300;s they say are becoming a nightmare like the 500's to get a part for, hearing of over a yr wait on parts.

Running things above upper RPM limits will over stress parts causing failure - Engines damage lifters and rotating parts, Rotors, bearings skidding and brinnelling - Not good costs money , Big Money

A fully aerobatic FPV quadcopter is 317,000 dollars cheaper, a lot more transportable, storable, cheaper to operate, and fun.
You won't be taking your Robinson R-22 on the plane with you to fly the Swiss Alps any time soon..
It's 2023 and the times have changed. You no longer need to be sitting in a cockpit to enjoy flying.

@@devengudinas1649 the new features don't resolve the mast bumping problem. It is a problem with main rotor.
