Good to see a young band covering a classic like this and they do a cracking job! Spot on performance and the drummer is awesome!
I'm old Genesis fan and I can't stand many of the "full of shit" covers I listen too often on this platform BUT this cover is awesome; you are great guys; each of you makes a great job and I really appreciated.
Super drummer!!!
I was there!
In the first row, stunned speechless.
A youtube video doesnt do justice to the absolute thunder that went down during this performance.
This was a gift - from a super talented young group to old farts like me, letting us know the music we love is in good hands :)
This might be the best Genesis cover that I've ever heard, outside of Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited project. I remember watching this video years ago, and I just found it again thanks to District 97's latest email newsletter. I wish I were going to be in the Chicago/Milwaukee area on March 9 or 10, to see D97 with Mike Portnoy's Winery Dogs.
Joan Jett singing Genesis with Harry Potter on drums?!?! This is epic!
Good cover I like to see a rock chick with some balls..well done..
Hahahaha
Me and 3 others get this and agree
Hahaha
respect the harry potter-drummer, the guy is awesome
Amazing!
I have listened to this a few times now and love this version.
You guys get a big thumbs up for playing anything from "The Lamb". Seriously! There is hope for civilization!
Wow !! I hope you got a congratulatory phone call from Messieurs Gabriel, Banks, Hackett, Rutherford and Collins. You crushed it! Congrats to the drummer for staying original. So glad there are musicians today who appreciate the mastery of old Genesis. Just slow the tempo down a bit. Would you please perform the whole Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album, please ?
Excellent performance!!! Major congrats to the drummer!!
... and I still can't get over that duck-tape tank-top. Awesome! X-D
Excellent.
I often thougth how would an old Genesis song like "Back in New York City" sound if it were played with modern sound by a contemporary band. Then I found this video (unfortunately more then 7 years after it was published) and I am really enthusiastic about the sound and the fantastic interpretation of the song. I think Joan Jett's voice and appearance fit perfectly. Many thanks for this video!
Great job! The lead singer has wonderful stage presence.
wow! I was lucky enough to see the Lamb show in Buffalo, NY in Dec. '74. This was great! :)
Bravissimi tutti!!!
I Love this Cover Band, nice and nice to hear something new with genesis song
I *love* it!
Such a great, fun version by this talented band!!
Bravo! Sounded fantastic, obviously well rehearsed, super boss drumming, great swagger from the singer, and everyone was totally into the groove.
incredible, flawless ... that drumming as well !!
Leslie is a great singer. Is there anybody female prog singer better than she nowadays?
Doubtful. She is amazing
Christina Booth from Magenta is also amazing, last but not least Anneke Van Giersbergen...
Absolutely incredible ! I hope they got a call from Peter and Tony and Mike congratulating how perfectly this was played.
genesis0932 Perfectly played but too clean.
Excellent. Good choice, not an easy song to play. Good stuff ladies and gents.
It is no stretch to envision you guys playing 'In The Cage', 'Colony of Slippermen' , 'The Lamia', 'It' and just owning it. There's two generations of Genesis fans waiting to hear it played live with the passion and execution that you demonstrated in Back in NYC.
Great cover!
Pedazo de versión! Me encantó
Excellent job !
Thanks for that ; you are all as good as what I saw on stage in 1975 in north of France ( Palais des Grottes - Cambrai )
Wow great cover !
Excelente version de Back!!!
Excellent! And great work by the drummer!
excellent revisitation, great band. goodluck!

Long life to District97
She nails it
So awesome, especially to have a great "chic" singer doing Genesis!! :-)
2:40 Those background keyboards sound so good, nice refresh.
Did you get a call from Tony and Peter and Mike yet? You should.
Well if Rael ever had a granddaughter I guess that would be her. Great performance.
Interesante version
Cheeky! 😎😊🤩
I have to agree with the previous comment!.
Apparently the lead singer Leslie Hunt was a finalist on American Idol--whoda thunk it?
She didn´t get into finals.
i love u. all of you.
pretty good. I have a soft spot for this tune probably largely per Kevin Gilbert's cover, but this may be the best cover I've heard since.
was in nyc then why didn't I know bout this!!??
This was in Gettysburg. Back in NYC is the name of the song
Is the bassist wearing a Steve Hackett T-shirt?
Killer
Excellent !!!
ci vogliono palle! bravi...
you guys still around?
Yes! We just put out a new album called Screens and will be doing a Spring US tour starting in March. Check district97.net/ for more details.
4:19 ....she tears it up
I appreciate the enthusiasm but where is the gravitas?
the gravitas is in a band of nerds playing like bosses and a chick singing prog rock in 7/8 time sig like there is no tomorrow. Doesn't get more awesome than this!
@@ChristianSchonbergerMusic Agreed
Wish it was not recorded at such a low volume.
need more power.. but interpretation is really great
VOice is great, I think instruments need more verve, especially keyboards
Yup. Female voices covering male rock parts always come across lackluster and easy. Its just not the same force as a male singing up there. Part of the appeal of rock vocals is it's not easy and you can hear it. Also needs way more keys.
There were/are plenty of women with the requisite singing power and style needed to handle a song like this fine (Janis Joplin; Grace Potter), and plenty of men (James Taylor, even Phil Collins at the very beginning of his singing career) who would be in way over their heads. It's not a question of gender at all.
per Mike Flavin quote above... "A youtube video doesnt do justice to the absolute thunder that went down during this performance." Still, perhaps this could have been mixed differently from the master tapes. Steven Wilson !!! ;)
It missed guitar solo at the end
In ducktape!!!
Not she Sadie Norkin?
She looks like Ally Sheedy
Well, it ain't the Musical Box.
+paulrichard10 they should do that one... I would "touch her"
I really like D97; their first disc is really nice and their second is must-own material. Alas, I don't like "Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" at all; always found that album lame compared to what had come before. Haven't watched the DVD yet, but at least I know it'll look and sound sharp, and have one song that I'll fast-forward. So it goes. My blind spot, not D97's performance.
Swing Out Sister meets Kraftwerk meets Collins-era Genesis.
"Collins-era"...what are talking about???
Peter Gabriel era actually
Brilliant and beautiful. This is why the internet was invented, not Pornhub... OK, this is mostly why the internet was invented.
