One of many classic Aussie cars. I love the roughness of these Sixties/Seventies Australian beauties. I don't mean that in a negative way. These cars were designed & built before wind tunnel testing ruled the day. Design-wise it's all about attitude & catching the eye. But let's not forget, these cars could perform. They have a distinction & beauty which is timeless.

I liked that they showed a manual version as though it was a common choice.

Gotta love the XF Falcon. Like the beige interior in some of them. In the early XF's there were two shades of beige. One was named Wedgewood and the other was fawn. There was a grey interior called slate grey as I am led to believe.

The interior was a transition to the EA. It certainly was a step up from the XD and XE, especially in Fairmont Ghia trim.
The first EA full mock up was built in 1984. I've seen a photo of it.

It's not a reality that can be realised.
It wouldn't meet ADRs in so many areas.

XFs were pretty sound apart from rust. The mechanicals were proven at least.

Leaded petrol version in ad, so probably dates from 1984, the year of release. My XF broke door handles, handbrake handle and leaked through the windscreen. Good touring car though.

      @BlairSauer Před 3 lety +1

The exact date the XF Falcon was released on was October 19, 1984. Which in my understanding was on a Thursday. I actually found that out on a website. Most computers too you can look up old calendar dates.

Yup. Lead 84~86. You can tell an unleaded XF - it has the side blinkers in the front bumper.

Besides crap turning circle in power steering cars, doors that would crack at the hinges and manual pedal boxes that would crack! I had it all but still liked the car for some silly reason.

I had the XE model with the 3-3 four speed. Clutch cable and door handles were crap. Had excessive rust by 1991.
Replaced it with an '85 Mitsubishi Colt. Later got a TP Magna.......it was a shitbox as well!

Yep rust was a big problem back then. All new cars became galvanised in the 2000s, yet car dealers were still trying to flog off rust proofing

The 3.3 XE Had the Higher Compression Motor so if you had the 4 or 5 Speed Manual you only had to Recondition the Weber Carburettor put a Decent Exhaust with Extractors and have the timing played around with and you had a great car that would accelerate fantastic to around 120kmh.
If your Mechanic knew what to do this was a great set up for the money it cost.
Mine would always accelerate better than any of the VN-VX V6 COMMODORES. Was pretty much on par with a Lazer TX3 Non turbo and many cars at the time.
This was 21 Year's ago so for a heavy car mine was great like that.
By today's standard it would seem slow but in comparison to what they were factory to that there was a notable difference and it wasn't thousands of dollars.
The 6s in the XD XE and XF weren't worth spending thousands on as if you bought a 302 or 351 to put in one you had alot to gain.
The common problems were always there like Rust Horrible Door Handless Fuel economy was really bad on the 3.3 especially mine. Head Gaskets were known to go on them.
Otherwise was a sturdy car and they were never built for speed.
From the 4.1 Carby to Fuel Injected there was not a great deal of power difference Just Torque for it's 6 was Decent.

Good call (after seeing on Google images).
The previous XE version was inspired by the Rover SD1. The front clip part looks like an XD/Mk2 Grenada had a child with the SD1.
