  • Atul: Do you want to blow up your piston?
Me: Tu tension mat le, maar limiter (Don’t worry bro, nothing will happen, hit the limiter).
Atul: What is the point of it anyway? Hitting the limiter on a bike on the paddock stand.
Me: Yaar, video achcha banega. Trust me (It’s for the video, dude. Do it).
Atul: Fine by me. Just don’t let me tell you “I told you so” (if the engine blows up).
Me: Wait, let me get the camera rolling.
And that is your opening sequence of the video, ladies and gentlemen.
    Makes sense now?
There is one thing that this Yamaha R15 V3 build series has taught me: Do not expect everything to go as per plan and do not, definitely, do not expect things to go smooth.
It’s been a week since we installed a BRT high-lift camshaft along with a Juken ECU, a SKA performance air filter, Kawahara racing coil and an aRacer laser iridium (Are these all marketing terms?) spark plug onto this humble 155cc motorcycle.
Audience: 25 BHP? Tell me it makes that. You wrote it as the video title the last time, damn it!
Me: No, not quite. Maybe 21 or 22 now. Maybe not even that.
Audience: Why bother spending so much money on it then? RC390 lena chahiye tha (Should have bought a KTM RC390, fool)
Me: It’s still a quick bike. And it handles well, and it…. ahhhh….
Me: It puts a smile on my face, and that is priceless.
But it also gets me to scratch my head, with the current state of tune the bike is in.
The tuning is a little off right now. The low-end has greatly reduced, the mid-range is still explosive though, and the bike loves to pull clean to the top of the rev range. Mind you, I could not stretch her legs beyond the fourth gear. But I can tell the fuelling is not up to the mark.
What did not help was we were using some terrible fuel which we had to take out from a Kawasaki Ninja 1000 that got it from some random gas station on a remote highway.
The ECU (BRT Juken) comes with a map that is calibrated to the new BRT camshaft. Great. However, since we have changed other parts: full system Daytona exhaust, bigger fuel injector, racing coil etc etc, the map requires fine tuning.
To combat the lack of low-end grunt, we are reinstalling the baffle, that will help retain a bit of back pressure this bike is currently losing due to a full system exhaust.
The stock grips are going back on it too, as the aftermarket ones from Ali Express have too much play in them.
Atul is trying to sort out the tuning niggles, whenever he gets some time. Speedmonks also works on other bikes, after all.
It will take its time, but we shall get there. I have a feeling, this bike even without the big bore kit (should be here in a month or two), can be an eight-second 0-100 kmph bike that touches 165 kmph on the speedo as well.
I did not get to spend much time with the bike this Sunday; it was a hurried trip to Speedmonks, and so the sloppy video.
I hope the bike is ready by Friday, so that I can pick it up and test it a bit this Sunday morning.
The build video can be seen here: • My Yamaha R15 V3 Proje...
If you want further updates on this bike, you can check out my Instagram page: / abhinavbhatt19 (It gets updated daily, unlike CZcams)
I am waiting to test this bike properly as much as you are to see it roar (This statement is for those who watched the video and made it this far down the description - man, you are awesome).
One last thing: I am in awe of all the love, support and adulation you have shown me for this build. Not just India, all of South Asia has come together to help me find parts, give suggestions and cheer me on as I try to build up my bike. People from Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Nepal and Vietnam have extended support. I cannot thank you enough, and trying to put my gratitude down in words will reduce its value.
Goes on to show that biking is one of the strongest brotherhoods in the world.
Oh, and I mentioned a top speed run towards the end of the video. You can watch it here: • Yamaha R15 V3 Top Spee...
Until next time, keep riding, keep smiling.
    Over and out.

Btw, I guess the engine is running on Motul 300V right now. When it's time to replace, I suggest you (since the project is extremely demanding) to go for Yamalube RS4GP (Race Spec for GP) 10W40, the highest grade Yamalube. Recommended for Yamaha's supersport engines for both road and race use. Recently Yamaha Motor India has introduced this product. Guess it's a direct import from Japan. Even though this oil can be used for the road, try to replace it at around 2500 KM's, since it's a race spec product.
Yes, with all the mods it's wise to stick with the 13.5 K rev limiter. AFAIK, the stock limiter kicks in at 11.5 K engine rpm:)

    • @abhinavbhatt
      @abhinavbhatt  Před 5 lety +2

Hi Deepak. Yes, I am running Motul 300V. I will look into this new YamaLube. I think I have heard of it. Yes, I am not going to keep any engine oil beyond 2500 km. Which should take a solid six months to clock. I am also going to beef up the other parts of the engine for some longevity. And yeah, I am only going to hit the limiter once. Or maybe not even that. I will restrict the ECU to 13k RPM. More than the engine, a piston seizure at those speeds could potentially kill me. Don't want that.

You seem to be a man who is doing well in life (financially) and you could have easily chosen the 2018 R3 and fiddled with that. Anything in particular about the R15 that spiked your interest, or was it just a whimsical decision?
Also, how much did you spend on getting you rims painted? I've been saving up for a while now, and I think I'll get my fender eliminated and also get them dank blue wheel!

Hello, Arya. Thank you for the support. I could have gone for the R3 but I wanted to buy the smallest bike that had the best handling so that I can develop some skills on the race track. I ride a much bigger bike on other days so the power of a 300-400 never excited me. To be fast on a small bike, you need to be riding well. If I can learn that, I will be able to translate it to my bigger bike and be a better rider. Hope this explains.

@Lars LRS R6 and R1 are Supersport and Superbike. Best for tracks and can buy it to showoff in India (if one doesn't do track days) While his street triple is middleweight naked which is good for road use.
Ps.i dint say r6/R1 can't be ridden on public roads(Consider INDIA traffic)

      @abhinavbhatt  Před 5 lety

I only use 97 octane. But it wasn't available. To run the bike we had to add a bit of fuel - whatever we could lay our hands on. This was the one and only time.

Bro,, a bit advice from me,, use a 91 or higher octane fuel,, It is a must.. And do a little work on the cylinder head by porting and polish the intake and exhaust port.. It will smoothen the air fuel mixture into the combustion chamber and help gain a little bit power..

    • @anup2282
      @anup2282 Před 5 lety

@@cranky1812 afterfire happens mostly in cars ...
Back fire happens when the engine is running
Backfire happens mostly because of Lowering engine speed too fast
      Carburetor adjustment set too lean
      Muffler construction can induce backfire
      Higher than normal engine temperatures
Some carburetors can induce backfire due to the sensitivity of internal transitional passages.
Afterfire occurs after the engine has been shut off it mostly happens because of Shutting off the engine at high RPM, causing fuel to pump through the engine for ignition and. The remained fuel l sometime gets ignited on its own even after shutdown..you are partly right but the right word is backfire.

    Well work done on bike.
What you need now is mostly the ECU work.
Correct the Air and Fuel tables, make the power delivery smooth.
And maybe your ignition timing have a problem, your bike is backfiring.
And what about your ECU, is it closed loop or open loop.
And its also good to hook up a O2 sensor.
