- What a great day to cut callaloo! The rain really made the harvest bountiful this week so much that we had to break it into 2. Callaloo is a very nutritious green and delicious when simply sauteed with some peppers and onions.

What makes some leaves to turn yellow? I have the problem of my leaves turning yellow each I plant. What manure or fertilizer do you use? Good job thank you

Use pure liquid Castile soap mixed in water and spray the back of the leaves early or late in the evening. Next, sprinkle fine cornmeal on the leaves. When the bugs eat the meal they will die. Got to treat weekly for good control. Happy selling.

Hi there Karen! We water about every other day or so when the weather gets too dry here in the summer months. Sometimes we have to turn on the sprinklers for a little bit every day. To give the plants a drink of water. Just don't make the ground too saturated by over watering. We water at the base of the plant close to the root not fr above. That way the water goes directly where it needs to and you don't need as much.

My callaloo always seeding a lot. Should I be removing the seeds as they pop up? Also does the taste change once they start producing seeds like basil?

I love your callaloo garden, please explain how to save them in the refrigerator, when I try to save them, the leaves turn black.
Hi Valrie! Callaloo can be compared to spinach or collards in terms of storage time in the refrigerator. To keep for longer periods of time we suggest cleaning, chopping, and then freezing them in the size portions you would cook them in. That way you just take them from freezer to pot when you are ready.
