  • Hallucinations explain where your consciousness comes from.

Your brain is a complex organ that makes you...YOU! Your consciousness is controlled by a variety of molecules and receptors in your brain which are studied while hallucinating. New research places participants in an fMRI machine to study their brains while hallucinating, it shows a decrease in the default mode network. The default mode network is a brain region that controls worrying, reason, motivation, reflecting on your past and planning your future. It is the part of the brain that builds the story of you! Your consciousness, fear of mortality, obsession with the ego starts to dissolve when you hallucinate, and your brain starts to add information and use the neurology of your brain in different ways to cope leading to a hallucination. All of this research is leading to breakthroughs in addiction therapy, end of life therapy and most importantly, a clear picture of where your consciousness comes from.

If you find gel tabs, I recommend 2-3 to really experience the potential of closed-eyed visuals. It’s important to remember as well since many of these hallucinogens are similar in structure to serotonin, that people taking SSRI’s or SNRI’s are at an increased risk for psychosis when on psychedelics. This is why research is so important to understand when these drugs are safe and when they are not. I’ve been clinically depressed my whole life and wanted to try psilocybin because of its promising effects, however thankfully I found out that it would interact negatively with my medication. Stay safe y’all!

@@shanemurphy415 Unless the trip is underwhelming and brings up things you already knew. Then it can get pretty depressing and disappointing. Heroic dose ego death is where it's at. But it's definitely better to start off with a low dose and find out you are under whelmed and then go into an ego death next time rather then going straight into an ego death and finding out you should have just stuck with the low dose to see what that had to teach you first instead of throwing even more at you.

    • @sage7970
      @sage7970 Před 2 lety +7

There isn’t much evidence to suggest that taking psychedelics while also taking an antidepressant will cause psychosis. However, they do generally decrease the effects of a psychedelic experience and can put you at higher risk of serotonin syndrome. DMT is the most dangerous in terms of interacting with an antidepressant negatively, but LSD and psilocybin are unlikely to harm you. Definitely don’t try to take more of a psychedelic to compensate for a weaker trip, though. Stick with a reasonable dose, stay with sober loved ones who are willing to watch over you while you trip, and psychedelics may help you treat your depression. I’m no longer dependent on drugs, doctor prescribed or otherwise, to combat my mental illness. Psychedelics gave me the ability to form new connections in my mind that have helped me to grow away from my depression.

I've hallucinated twice in my life: once while high on ketamine, which I didn't know I was allergic to, and was mixed into my anaesthetic concoction once during a surgery, and once while meditating for about three hours straight. The first one was an obvious case, because I hallucinated not only DURING surgery, when you usually can't perceive anything because they knock you out, and then twice AFTER surgery, but I count them all as one incident because they were all caused by the same drug. The other one was, I SPECULATE, a hallucination because I had been deep-breathing for three hours straight, and not only could I see these things very vividly, as though they were really there, but I could also feel what I was seeing. In that second case, and try not to make fun of me, but I saw myself holding onto a dragon's tail, and I could feel the movement of the flight. I mean one of those Eastern dragons that look more like flying snakes, not the bipedal Western ones with upright bodies.

I discovered "the power of now", which is a book that has really helped me a lot with anxiety, friendships, confidence etc and is all about turning off (more turning it down) the main part of your brain and really kind of being present. It's an amazing feeling once you can do it and it doesnt surprise me that lcd etc is so similar because whenni tried lcd, it felt like being present but more powerful! Being present can bring happiness from nothing, just like when you were a kid which makes so much sense when this video talked about kids brains. I suggest checking out the book! Seriously! If you feel depressed or miss being a kid I really suggest it!

wow i am so impressed by this video, specifically by exactly how much you understand and explain something i've personally experienced and became interested in researching at an amateur level that i have struggled to explain or didn't dig deep enough to find research on it (if it even existed during the time i was doing that)
i have taken a lot of psychedelics in my life but i never used them at all until i was 25. around then i started using THC, then LSD, then shrooms, etc. psychology, mental health and neurology are some of my special interests and i had many reasons for this...journey, as i like to think of it (i only use THC now, LSD very rarely) but i had already asked myself many of the same questions you addressed the answers to succinctly in this video. i knew that meditating sober could bring about psychedelic experiences (it's happened to me sober...also meditating on LSD is a thing too) due to it suppressing the DNN, but i didn't actually know WHY it suppresses the DNN until now.
i am also extremely interested in color theory and had already read several extremely touching accounts of colorblind people seeing colors for the first time on LSD. i remember reading one trip report where the colorblind guy took LSD while his sober friend looked after him to keep him safe while tripping. he started seeing colors and became so excited that his friend spent the entire trip introducing him to new colors and teaching him all the names for them.
since my own color perception goes back to normal after LSD wears off, unfortunately i have to assume this guy went back to being colorblind, but that's not a certain assumption since LSD also has an effect on things such as heightening neuroplasticity and who knows, maybe my color perception actually was worse before i started taking psychedelics. (speculation)
the other part of your video was the point where you said that adult brains on LSD are similar to that of children: again i experience NOTICING this myself with personal use but having no proper explanation for it at the time.
the first time i got really really stoned, my first thought was "Wow...time hasn't been this slow since I was about 9" (they 100% affect my perception of time and there is research to show that perception of time changes with age/brain development)
but i also started noticing other things from my hallucinations on psychedelics: and i realized MANY of these types of hallucinations where things i could see while sober as a kid, but no longer can see at all when sober as an adult. so my immediate thought upon that realization was "wow, I bet being a child is actually a LOT like being on psychedelics all the time..."
turns out i was right?? amazing.
ps. did you know that NASA has a test for measuring a person's ability for creative problem solving and creativity, to determine if one has "genius level" creative thinking skills?
2% of adults pass this test
    98% of kindergarteners do

How the brain on psychedelics is similar to a child's brain had always made sense to me with or without science backing that up. Anytime I take psilocybin I get this huge sense of being reborn. It always feels like I'm exploring a new world for the very first time. And after recently taking a heroic dose of psilocybin it was that sense of being reborn times 100x. I learned so much about myself and it has taught me things in my life that need to be worked on. After experiencing ego death during that trip, it has completely changed my view on life and death.

Like Melina said, age can be quitte a factor. Also, set and setting are REALLY important! Tripping with friends who are close to you and in an environment that is familiar has a big influence on your trip. Also, having a activity planned (like walking trough a park) gives reason to a trip, instead of just staring at a ceiling in a room and hearing the same conversation loop around.

This has blown my mind. Though never having researched any of the neurological effects of LSD, It felt like most of these topics were things I would think about in the weeks after my first trip. For certain I became very aware of my reactions to situations being largely based on previous events. I have also had multiple moments of what I'm pretty certain was complete ego dissolution. I haven't often got control of it but it really gets you thinking about your own consciousness and what it means to be you. I tried describing this to my friend but its so hard to explain. Just glad its normal really :)

2:57 On shrooms, 2 friends (J and B) and I watched The Bourne Legacy. My colorblind friend ("B") was watching and there's a clip where they run through a factory with deep blues (metal scaffolding), yellows (metal railguards), reds (crates), and pinks (bunny suits) and it couldn't get over this "crayon factory". The other friend kept asking when Matt Damon was going to show up. When Jeremy Renner went into the cabin with the other dude I kept saying, "he's coming soon" "just a few more minutes". Then when the drone strike hit the cabin I said, "THERE HE IS, THAT WAS MATT DAMON!" and my friend was so excited and B and I couldn't stop laughing.
