That special freewheel design is indeed impressive! I love lever hoist. Bought a 3/4 harbor freight one. Will keep my eyes open for a used jet, Harrington or other better brand used! Bought two jet chain falls too!!

I got my 1 ton Harrington chain hoist from the scrap yard someone threw out. I guess they didn't know what they had I love it

They got a video that will fix that, I've had to take them apart once in a blue moon because of that but they're still more reliable than any other come along on the market, my only gripe is I wish the tiny silver one the made free wheeled an the knob popped out like the big ones other than that they're come alongs an chain falls blow everyone else out of the water

You probably have dust debris thats making it bind up, I've only had that issue if I've had a bad hand on the job dragging them through deep salty muddy water or just gravely mud in general it's easy to fix tho

Will it free wheel under load if hooked up side down?

Yes absolutely. Completely safe within reason. Stay well within the rated capacity
