The Penobscot expedition - a Revolutionary war disaster.

A description of the Penobscot expedition, the largest naval operation conducted by the Patriot forces in the American Revolutionary war, and sometimes regarded as the greatest American naval disaster before Pearl Harbor.
Largely forgotten now, it is a fascinating study of Eighteenth century military operations, conducted by mostly forgotten and lacklustre commanders, but also featuring two figures, one from each side, that went on to become very famous indeed.
