- Recorded many different times due to issues with my camera and the actual upload to CZcams that originally failed, but I finally got it! Here is the video that some of you have been waiting for! In this video, I share my top ten characteristics as to how to best identify a dying collecting category in the year 2021 and beyond!

Love Subterranean Shawn emerging at the start there.
I remember collecting the state quarters. I got all 50 states. For sure, it is worth $12.50.
Easily! Lol!
Man those were a ton of fun to collect.
I'm retiring on my hoarded Elvis memorabilia.
Very educational video! thank you. How about a video on a "RISING" category, 7-10 years out? Not dying category, not already hot category (games), nor long-term stable (books, coins, military).
Vintage tech. Crt televisions, vhs, laser disc. Etc. vinyl is already pretty big.
Long term, maybe gasoline powered cars. In a world full of electric vehicles, it’d be a major power flex to own a pristine, low mileage, working gas powered car that isn’t self driving.
@@Mythirdeye85Yup, if indeed gas cars are banned by 2035, then small sport cars like Porsches. Vintage tech for sure. Anything tactile, emotional, mechanical, with a compelling cultural story, and a chance to feel young again.
Beanie babies? 🤷♂️
Great work again Shawn. Love your content! Cheers.
Thank you!
Great video Shawn you jam packed a ton of useful information in less than 20min! A must see for anyone new to the collectibles scene for sure!
Thank you!
Recommended your videos to a friend of mine. I'm very certain he will love your videos as much as I do!
Loved the quick overview! Will be looking forward to the separate sections as well!
Your absolute BEST video yet. Love the content and love that you just went straight into it. Perfect and super super well done.
Towards the end of this summer I'll be emailing you to discuss the consulting services you offer to see if what we do interests you and what we can work out. Greatly impressed with your videos, mindset, and background in the market.
Id love to get into the ancient roman coin market but im going to educate myself a bit more before making that choice
Thanks as always for the content Shawn
Really good break down! I like this idea of collectors vs investors vs speculators as well. I personally am looking at collectibles more and more through all 3 lenses! :-)
Great video! Made me think of pogs for some reason. They were so cool back in elementary school and you can find them in almost every store. Now the younger generations have no clue about them.
Most GenZ and younger millennials don't care about owning physical collectibles like those older than them do. They also have more debt and less money than their parents. If people 30 and younger can't afford a house, a car, have a ton of debt, and birth rates are declining who will be able to buy this stuff in the future at these crazy prices?
Here’s my list:
1. Collected by Boomers
2. Collectible rhymes with Meanie Rabies
3. Lack of Twitch hot tub girls mentioning the collectible
4. Memes about the collectible decrease in dankness
5. CZcams talking heads covering the collectible seem only half coked out of their minds
6. Zoomers that own the collectible don’t also own Dogecoin
7. No online auction house manipulating values of the collectible
8. Lack of millennials posting pictures of the collectible on Instagram for clout
9. Less than 50 low quality podcasts covering the collectible
10. Turnaround time to get the collectible graded is less than the time needed for the inevitable heat death of the universe
Two years on from this video, I think we can identify a catalyst for the Barbie market. Not that I’m jumping into that category with both feet.
It’s already almost forgotten unless they do sequels…which they probably will.
Excellent points! I always learn something new when I watch your videos. I am glad I stayed with coins all my life. Thanks!!

As always, great content!
Great channel. You have talked about the Beatles memorabilia, (along with Elvis), being a dying collectible in multiple videos. However, I wouldn't lump the Beatles in with Elvis, Sinatra, etc. in that their music is multi-generational and has attracted new fans over the decades, whereas the others, for the most part haven't. Would this not translate into there being up and coming collectors on the horizon?
There's always new waves of fans for the classics but elvis, beatles, sinatra all were part of the older generation which is dieing out so your buyers are basically on limited time, you still got decades left but i think over time they will fade just like most categories. There will always be new waves of interest but there's no way that people born today are going to be interested in elvis, beatles as much as past generations. I think you would be much safer with beatles because they are more timeless, but still I think it's a slow fade.
Love your content and your passion. Keep it up!
Thank you!
Under desk appear had me lol 😆
Shawn, wha...what were you doing under that table at the beginning, haha
YOUR VIDEOS ARE THE GEMS OF CZcams!
Thank you!
We love this channel Shawn keep up the good work. Cast iron huh
Great video thank you!
I don't understand vintage video games at all. I get it if you have something to play them on.... but really older consoles have trouble working with new tvs that lack those old round ports. I really fail to see the nostalgia value in an unplayable hunk of plastic. I play mods of vintage games on my current computer no need to spend thousands on junk.
good content.. agree for the most part with those 10 items… but yes it does not pertain to the top tier items…. even if those 10 items occur the top tier will still hold and gain value… hope u or ur listeners have some of them :)
thats a huge marker
A wild Floor Shawn appears
Makes perfect sense. Great content yet again.
Hopefully, CGC will kick WATA into the gutter. And when people realize they're the poorest player in a game of Monopoly, where investors keep stacks of the "ULTRA RARE" games in the dark, that they'll wake up and stop spending blindly, and the market will return to the collectors again.
I went to a coin and stamp show recently. There was no one under the age of 60 looking at stamps, and under 40 taking an interest in coins. That's not a good sign.
Most collectors of coins don’t go to shows…
Barbie will never die! Everyone loves hot chicks! especially now they are avail in different skin tones and if you do not like chicks you can buy Ken or a transgender doll!
Gym fresh Shawn? Is this a new breed?
Hi Shawn. What do you think of graded 80s toys (Transformers G1, MOTU, GI Joe, Thundercats, Voltron). Have you done a video on that subject in 2021 ?
Do you believe dvd , vhs movie or tv show will be grading next? Since you heard older movies selling a lot of money on eBay. I am surprise no one come out this idea yet?
I did a video on that. There already is a lesser known grading company that grades those at present time. Good question though.
Perfect video! I am new to the channel so i have a random question for you because it sounds like you have some knowledge about antiques (if i am wrong just skip this comment). Do you think higher quality antique furniture will decrease more in value in the future or not. Because the mid-low quality furniture is at the bottom and is impossible to sell and almost worthless.
I am surprise they didn’t came out the idea grading your favorite book like Harry potters, dr suess and other. A lot of book dr suess getting banned. It will be collectible item and graded your books.
Very informative and useful - just subscribed. I know my question is speculative in nature, but how much life do you think the hot retro game market has? I'm a collector, not an investor, and I'm interested to know theories/guesses on when CIB games from the 80's, 90's, and 2000's will be come more abundant and affordable again.
You've got a long wait, will corrections occur along with several other surprises? Yes, but the market manipulators and speculators got their wish...for now!
Don’t mind me, I’m just in for #10😂
so my grandma’s collection of Precious Moments figurines she’s leaving me isn’t gonna get me that Maserati?
Nope!
Idk, you could probably find a really ratty chrysler maserati TC or maybe even a biturbo if you live in euro land, but yeah those will be disgusting horrible cars
Sadly for mtg that day will never come...just collectors...can u imagine?
Did it come for Western collectibles? It will come for MTG too…one day…
@@ReservedInvestments Ah, Senpai noticed me :) 2 things: there was never a competitive Western toy tournament scene, where money was to be made and you could play with people from every country in the world. at least to my knowledge :P would be funny, though. Magic has a broader use than comics or western toys, you can be "better" than some one else. that's all it take to stay interesting...till it becomes pay to win, ofc.
2nd an more importante: WHERE.IS.MY.WHISKY.VIDEO????? :D props for the superb work, keep it up :)
@@Achjakommaherkommadu And none of that matters because no one is paying $10,000 for a slabbed MTG card to use in a tournament.
@@Achjakommaherkommadu Thank you and just an FYI, even if I don't respond, I do read the comments...from time to time...
@@ReservedInvestments i hope you will find the time in the future, interaction is a rare thing these days. and a quick reminder for my secound part: 2nd an more importante: WHERE.IS.MY.WHISKY.VIDEO????? :D props for the superb work, keep it up :)
Would you know of any resources on identification and valuation of European porcelain figurines circa 19th early 20th century?
Are they Staffordshires by chance?
@@ReservedInvestments some are Meissen but others are from same era Germany around 1880s. I have pics. Facebook groups have been somewhat helpful. Maybe a good appraiser I should be looking for
Brilliant explanation as usual. That being said time to double down on Pokemon.
What you think about inflation hitting Collectibles do think that’s why some prices are going up
Already did a video on this…
What would you say could be possibly a new collectibg market? I mean entering stage 3 you mentioned in the other video?
What could it be? An Iphone 3? Simply a XBox360?
It's hard to say at present time only because we are in a market climate where market manipulators want almost everything to be a thing, with few exceptions. More to come on this though...;)
@@ReservedInvestments great. Very interesting topic and yes. It‘s like a clockwork. I am really thinking about the big 3 in TCGs. They are all at the end of cycle 3 ;)
Do not collect or speculate in mass market trash. Please invest in an S&P 500 index fund over the long term
hot wheels 🔥?????
Did you see that Mario 64 went 1.5 million!!! Set a new record!!!
I'd like to hear your take on that. 👍
Check the video I did before this one…😉
@@ReservedInvestments Ok Thanks!! 👍
Pez, Hot Wheels, etc that use LICENSED characters from a hotter market do not fit into the gestalt of a dying collecting category which you outlined in my opinion.
Would you like to buy my garage full of pez and hot wheels? Pennies on the dollar
Define catalyst...
You forget to add beanie babies in your list this video
No, that was a flash in the pan...using mass produced scarcity.
Thats a big-ass marker?!
but my moms elvis figure collection is her retirement plan....
Hello :) if a company in the EU started a business like PSA, Beckett... is that consider a catalyst?
Awesome video, thank you for the make things comprehensible and logical.
Grüße from germany
opportunity cost = blow + hookers ;D
There are so many of them and they have little to no impact. The money is in the US.
Grüße zurück.
@@DijaVlogsGames indeed.
Thought I was watching only fans. That’s a big marker right there.
LOL! I had to make sure it was just a marker before filming the video...! ;)
Fingers cross that this will trigger the Pointdexters!!!
I cant get this video to play no matter what I do ....
Disappointed. You didn’t say “if it bleeds we can kill it”
Predator!!!
