I'll never forget this song. i first heard it when I was in secondary school. 14 years old at the time in 1972. Now 46 years later i its still one my favourite Sweet songs.
Hiawatha´s girlfriend is spelled "Minnehaha" acording to the poem " The song of Hiawatha" from 1855 by Henry Longfellow who inspired the songwriters Nicky Chin and Mike Chapman of The Sweets.
This song popped into my head this morning so I had to play it. I haven't heard it in over thirty years and it instantly took me back to a children's disco in the clubhouse of a caravan site down Cornwall in the late eighties. Music is so evocative.
Fucking Sweet and there catchy ass songs. Do you know how hard it is to focus when you have either this song, Fox on the Run, Little Willy, or Ballroom Blitz? DO YOU!?!?!?!?
It’s hard to imagine here in 2098 that my great great great x 84 used to listen to this on his iPod in the trenches in ww1 while serving with Bob Marley lol how lucky we are these daze now we don’t have to eat meat and drink alcohol and do exactly what the government says. If your reading this in 2098 REBEL, REBEL REBEL! It’s not to late to over throw your dolphin overloads!
I’ve got super hazy memories of doing a party dance to this on a Haven holiday as a 5 year old. The song gets in my head semi-regularly but I don’t think I’d actually heard it since those times.
The womans name is spelled Minnehaha (NOT Minnie Ha-Ha) She is a caracter from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1855 poem "The Song of Hiawatha" "Smiling answered Hiawatha: "In the land of the Dacotahs Lives the Arrow-maker's daughter, Minnehaha, Laughing Water, Handsomest of all the women."
The sad part is this phenomenal track wouldn't get released today, because the generations after me are all idiots. Wrapped up in cotton wool and bubble wrap and have to have safe places. SERIOUSLY what the hell happened. THIS A BRILLIANT TRACK and there was no insult ever intended
I remember the first cd i ever owned as a kid. I hqd jo idea who these guys were but this little willy and fox on the run made me realize i needed to know
Just thought you might like to know, she never took him to the Silver Stream, it's Silver Screen (also know as cinema), buy sheet music it will show you.

The melody is similar to "Little Willy", which came out in the summer of '73, when I was 10.
First heard it at a Haven Holiday camp just outside of Bridlington.

I was born in 1970

It is to me. I still rock this everyday.
Time may pass, but the music is eternal.
