MY issue with Sakura is that she's an incredibly poorly written 2D character and flat out a bad person. In the movie "Road to Ninja" she complained to Naruto about her parents... She complained to an ORPHAN about her PARENTS... and then had the audacity to say "Sasuke would understand" NO HE WOULDN'T HE'S AN ORPHAN TOO- plus we never get a real explanation as to why she's in love with Sasuke, it started as a regular school crush and evolved to her chasing him for three years despite him clearly not giving a damn about her. She's not useless in the slightest, she's a great medical ninja and seemingly on par with Tsunade in terms of combat despite not having any genetic advantages like basically every other character in the series, she trained hard to earn her abilities instead of inheriting them in some way. But personality-wise she's just hard to root for.
Since when did people start to defend sakura? Be for freaking real. Yeah objectively she isnt as useless as everyone says (technically she is for being a major character in the series). But people usually just clowns on her because she is annoying asf, is like when People clown Atomic Samurai from One Punch Man for being an arrogant a- hole. Its more the fact people dislike her character.
It seems to me you are combating a straw man argument "Sakura is useless" People don't exactly mean that though. The community's gripe with her is that she lacks depth. She's the main female protagonist, yet has less character development than most female side characters (Hinata for example. Hell even Anko has a better back story!) It's as you said. She was put in the story to be a hated tsundere. Kishimoto probably got backlash and tried to force her development in shippuden. While she did improve, it felt unnatural and not as compelling as most other characters in the story.
The problem with Sakura is that she is wasted potential. Her so-called natural skill with chakra control went underlooked. Her healing capability was overshadowed by Naruto going Jesus mode during the Shinobi war arc. And she has made some pretty dumb mistakes throughout the series. Remember what she did to her friends when they went to retrieve Sasuke after the Kage summit? Face it, Sakura is the worst.
