ABOUT THE AUTHOR
With the philosophy of marrying both Eastern and Western medicine, Dr. Nicole Williams opened The Gynecology Institute of Chicago in July 2013 and currently operates three locations. Unlike other practices, The Gynecology Institute of Chicago believes in a team approach for women’s health recovery and will include both acupuncture and physical therapy. Her world travel experiences and core belief in “giving back” has not only shaped her medical practice, but her entire life.
Growing up in East St. Louis, Dr. Nicole Williams always knew she was destined to make an impact in the world, especially helping women. At a young age, she studied in Russia and noticed there was a bigger world out there besides the crime that plagued her hometown. She was influenced as a high school student to become a citizen of the world and help others. She is bilingual, speaking fluent French and learning German.
According to Dr. Williams, “the need to give back is not a choice for me.” As a college student, she earned a BS in Biochemistry and BA in English Literature from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. With the mission to help others, she decided to focus on medicine and further her education at Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine.
Dr. Williams also served as a representative at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) conference where she presented research on patient safety. Active in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), she has served as the Junior Fellow Illinois Section Chairperson and was appointed to a national position on the International Affairs Committee. Dedicated to the welfare of women, Dr. Williams has traveled to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Philippines, Cambodia, and Ghana to perform necessary gynecologic surgery.
For three years, Dr. Williams held a position as teaching faculty at Mercy Hospital and Clinical Instructor with the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine. She served as chairman of the DaVinci Minimally Invasive Surgery Committee, developing the Robotic Gynecologic Surgery Program at Mercy Hospital. She also served as a proctor who trained other physicians in proper and safe use of the DaVinci robot in the operating room.
In 2021, Dr. Williams wrote her first book, This Is How You Vagina: All About the Vajayjay and Why You Probably Shouldn’t Call It That. The book candidly discusses everything women didn’t know they needed to know about the vagina. Her clinical interests include dysfunctional uterine bleeding, female sexual dysfunction, menopause, pelvic pain, female incontinence and prolapse. In addition, she is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS), American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL).
Dr. Williams is dedicated to international mission work and continues to travel to third world countries as a medical volunteer, bringing along one resident each trip to inspire a new generation. Dr. Williams resides in Chicago with her husband and enjoys playing piano and writing short stories and poetry.
ABOUT THE MODERATOR
Christine Rosko is a publicist and content creator living on the north side of Chicago. She's always been passionate about raising awareness around women's health, in part due to experiences of her own and by witnessing those of her friends and family. An avid reader and literature junkie, Christine is a fan of the Bronte sisters, Sarah Addison Allen, Emily Belden, and Shakespeare. In her spare time, she loves to curl up with coffee and a good book, travel to cities with a historical feel, and write a little bit of her own story.
