The anime likes to use historical references, and we can see this in the starting and ending dates of each loop. From the calendar in Homura's hospital room, we see that she starts school on March 15 (the Ides of March). At some point, it's a shame that you don't rewatch series ("shame" may not be the exact word i want to say, but it's the one i know to express this sentence in English; maybe "pity" would work too). Episode 10 opens a whole new perspective to the series, and if you ever rewatch this show, try to keep the events of this episode in your head, because i can assure you it changes the series a lot. One might think that she could prevent it by just resetting time, but there are several things to consider: 1) While she can stop time pretty much whenever she wants, she can only go back in time once she reaches the same point in time when she originally made her wish and trapped herself in this loop; that is, after Walpurgisnacht comes. So, if she started to give in to despair before that point, she'd be screwed. 2) She's not sending her body back in time, as a magical girl's body is simply exterior hardware, and their actual selves are contained inside their soul gem, so she's only sending her soul gem back. So if, theoretically, she were to reset time while her soul gem was darkening, her soul gem would still be dark when she arrives back at the beginning and wakes up in the hospital, so she'd still be screwed. 3) Of course, she wouldn't even be able to reset time if her soul gem was darkening to the point of becoming a grief seed, because their soul gems are the source of their magic, so if her soul gem were that black, she wouldn't have the power necessary to even reset time at all. So, she'd be screwed.
And now you know why Kyuubey targets Madoka the most out of all the other girls. He wants grief seeds with powerful energy and Madoka's grief gives him exactly that. Since he says he knew she'd be the strongest witch once she corrupts after transforming which is something that's inevitable for every magical girl currently. Also fun fact: Madoka's witch form is called Kriemhild Gretchen. She's the strongest witch because she can destroy the entire planet Earth in ten days, Making Kyuubey's argument that his magical girl system benefits humans totally bullshit. You can't save a race by destroying it entirely.
Remember reading the cat was Madokas original wish, she brought it back to life. The final fight in this episode with the Walpurgis was the very first scene in episode one and is the final time jump into this current timeline. Can Homura save Madoka from her fate of becoming a magical girl and if she cant, can Madoka save Homura from her eventual fate of becoming a witch?
