- 10 months ago we purchased an Omlet Auto Coop Door. It wasn’t cheap and was a fairly pricey investment but honestly it’s been one of the best ones. With a very busy schedule, this door has been a game changer. We’ll discuss the pros of the door and a few changes we’ve made with the settings. We thank you for watching and we hope everyone has been doing well! #omletcoopdoor #upgrade #chickencoop

***********ROCKY CREEK HOMESTEAD****************
After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.
Stan, always good to get an update from the homestead. Glad to hear everyone has recovered from the holiday sickness that was going around and prayers for a quick recovery for you. Congrats on the wrestling season! Going local for purchases is usually the best way to go if at all possible. Glad to hear the ladies are liking the feed.
Thanks buddy. It was slow improvement but the last 2 days I’ve seen significant improvements. I think I’ll be back to my normal self by the weekend. Supporting local is always a great option. Appreciate it.
I admire your honesty and wisdom on the chicken feed and politics. Thank You!
Thank you. I’ll always do my best to keep it that way.
Really appreciate your honesty! Hope your family is recovering well and looking forward to the future garden.
Thanks, I do my best to be completely honest. Everyone’s situation is different and stuff costs money so I think it’s only right to be 💯 honest about stuff.
I’m loving my Omlet auto door. It’s made life easier for me and safer for the hens.
Glad you’ve liked yours. Ours is still going strong after a couple years. We had one issue I had to trouble shoot about 5 months ago, but I got it quickly figured out.
so glad you and your family are doing better! hope you recover soon take care!
Thanks, I’m ready to get back to normal. I was able to work all week but it was really sore by the end of the days. There’s been great progress though so I think I’ll be back to normal soon.
Woooo 🎉 welcome back!
😊 thanks! Glad to be back
Glad everyone is well!! Definitely looking forward to Spring. Good stuff as always Stan. Looks like you're exercising your creative muscles on the video. The cloud with sound transition/bridge in the beginning is something I haven't seen you do before.
Thanks buddy, I’m not the most technical person but I’m trying to learn some of it as I go. All this sitting around has me going stir crazy so I’ve learned a few tricks 😆.
Happy to see you’re all healthy and doing well! Thanks for the update on your coop door. I’m installing an automatic door for my girls this year and was going to message and see how yours was working for your setup. Praying all your family’s sickness is behind you!
I’ve been very pleased with this one. I’m sure there’s other good options out there but I’ve had 0 issues with this one. I can’t imagine having a coop without it now. Appreciate the prayers and we’re so glad to be getting back to normal.
I and the wife have been recently talking about getting one of those especially after that polar blast we recently got.
Surprisingly this kept operating without issue in our extreme cold. I’ve been very pleased with it. There’s others that seem to work well for people too. It seems like the ones with a string that pulls the doors up has the most problems based on reviews.
@@RockyCreekHomestead Interesting thank you
I have a flock of 6 chickens and have been feeding the commercial feed from Tractor supply. We got down to 2 eggs a day for December through January, but are now back up to 4 or 5 each day, so I don't see where the feed is affecting the laying. Tomorrow I am checking out to see if I can get a good quality feed from a grain elevator just a few miles from our home to see how well that works. So far, the Tractor Supply feed has not increased in price since we got our chickens last March.
That’s great yours are holding steady. I’ve had a lot of local people ask me about the feed thing lately and I honestly just don’t see a connection. If it was middle of summer and people saw it then I’d be more of a believer but it’s an expectation of reduction or even none during the winter. There’s a lot of variables that effect laying so I just wanted to be honest and hopefully reduce some stigma. I’m glad your prices have stayed steady, unfortunately our TSC has increased quite a bit, especially on pig feed.
Good Day, the auto door opener has been amazing. Ran into an issue and hoping someone might have an answer.
After replacing batteries, several times, the panel will not reflect greater than 40%. Today I changed them, with brand new quality batteries, and the panel only shows 20%.
When changing batteries do they need to be kept out for a period of time?
Not sure if it's related but a few days ago the door stopped opening in the morning and has to be manually opened.
The door sure is better than having to go out in the cold to open or close!
Thank you
Ah man sorry you’re having the issue. I’ve only changed batteries once so far and didn’t have that issue. All I could think of is contacting the company. Hopefully someone else on here has a better answer.
When you replace the battery, do you need to re-set the clock again and reprogram the open and close time again?
I haven’t changed the battery since this time and honestly I don’t remember fully. I feel like it stayed how it was but the time may have adjusted just the couple minutes it was disconnected because I’ve noticed it’s closing just a couple minutes prior to what I had it set on.
We really want to try an automatic door, but our concern is that it will freeze shut/open in our Iowa winters.
That’s a reasonable concern. My roof on the coop prevents too much build up on ours. We had a 1 week deep freeze for us that was unusual but there wasn’t much precipitation to really test it. In terms of just cold temps it’s done fine. Maybe I’ll get a good snow before winters out and I can see how it does
@@RockyCreekHomestead Thank you.
Where are you located and where are you getting your feed if you’re in tn?
We’re in VA. We get our feed from sunrisefarm.net/home/ . They’re based in Stuart’s Draft VA but distribute in various states.
Hey stan. Is your indoor coop light wired to you automatic door?
It is. Runs off the batteries in the control panel
