Vincent Vermilya Songs About Jane is never going to happen again. As sad as it makes me but that's the truth. Ten years ago it was possible to get to top of the charts with songs like This Love but would it be successful now? I highly doubt. The charts change so quickly and the only way to even get there is to have a chorus that people can remember (simple and repetitive) and a good hook. With some exceptions of course, they are very refreshing. I'm not bitter to Maroon 5 for wanting to be commercially successful - they earn their living from this and if you're not an instant success then nobody cares. I'm not a huge fan of this song but I want to support my favourite band's career so I'll buy and do what I can.. :)

YES YES YES YES! I couldn't agree with you more! There are so many people here saying that this new album is basically going to be "Overexposed: Version 2," but when I listened to "Maps," I got a different vibe. I was reminded so deeply of the earlier days of Maroon 5.

Songs About Jane is never going to happen again. As sad as it makes me but that's the truth. Ten years ago it was possible to get to top of the charts with songs like This Love but would it be successful now? I highly doubt. The charts change so quickly and the only way to even get there is to have a chorus that people can remember (simple and repetitive) and a good hook. With some exceptions of course, they are very refreshing. I'm not bitter to Maroon 5 for wanting to be commercially successful - they earn their living from this and if you're not an instant success then nobody cares. I'm not a huge fan of this song but I want to support my favourite band's career so I'll buy and do what I can.. :)

Could be the case here. I hope that their next album proves you wrong to some degree though. While I doubt we'll get another Songs About Jane, we could get some of that on the next album. Change is fine, just as long as it isn't overly poppy or rushed.
