I just wanted to thank you for such a concise and to the point video. I felt like there was no time wasted and everything you talked about was important to the topic of the smoker. I just added this to my Lowe's shopping cart and will be firing it up at our new house because of you. Thanks!
We’ve had our Z Grill ZPG-450A pellet grill for a little over two weeks. czcams.com/users/postUgkx3c8DmtYRYEKYTiR4g7y6Yc2amUPVs_3X It was relatively easy to put together, with 2 of us. (friend and I)The grill seems well built and heavy duty. I followed the start-up directions, and then cooked chicken on it that evening. We’ve since cooked burgers, pork chops, meat loaf, and steak on the Z Grill and love it. I’ve used a hardwood mix (per my Son-in-Laws recommendation) and we are very happy. Like cooking in an outside oven with a nice smoky taste. This is a perfect size for the two of us, and would probably work fine for a small family also. All the things we have cooked have kept their moisture, and remained juicy. No burning on one side!My next challenge will be a brisket. We highly recommend the Z Grill 450A, so far. Hopefully they did get whatever “bugs” fixed from previous models (per the description on Amazon). I’ll update our review after a few months.
Several years ago I purchased the Pit Boss model PB1000T2. I did have some problems with it when the augur motor died. After the second motor laid down on me I visited with PB and was told about the 5 year warranty. They replaced that motor and later the mother board after it shorted out due to operator error. The company has been great to work with. The only complaint I've ever had was that it didn't seem to get enough smoke flavor into my cooks. After I discovered smoking tubes I no longer have that problem. Thank you Pit Boss for your support and quick response to my problems.
So.. I could listen to you talk about grills and barbque for hours! I needed Thank you so much for the content 😊
First time visiting your channel and I'm probably more of a fan your platform than the smoker itself. Love the quality of the video shooting and editing; your presentation; the reference links; the scene markers. I'm an instant fan and will be sharing your channel with my BBQ circle. Thanks for putting out such great content.
Thanks for the kind words Maliik! We hope our content is helpful, and it’s nice to hear when it’s helping others. All the best and thanks for sharing!
This guy is great. He described the operation of the grill so good, I went out and bought one . Now I am gonna follow him to learn his recipes. I bought mine through Lowell’s and got a veteran discount. I’m now gonna fire it up!
Thanks for the kind words Jeremy. Congrats on your new grill! We’re looking forward to shooting some recipe videos really soon now that the new outdoor kitchen is finished.
I just did the same thing 👍🤤
So Jeremy and Jose, after one year, what do you think about your PitBoss?
I bought this back in April , it’s been amazing , the only one thing is the way the auger motor is attached to the auger. It just flops around , I got a bracket to support the auger motor .
Just fired up our grill finally for the first time and we had the 25° increments it Bluetooth wasn't working and after watching your video we contacted pit Boss and they told us and confirmed that we had the old controller and they're sending us a new one Thank you for making this video I never would have known that that was my issue
Instant sub. You've got a great voice, commanding control over the point of the video, and good quality video and sound all together. Keep it up plz!!
Much appreciated!
This is the fourth video of yours I have watched and I love them all. Thank you for your honest and helpful reviews. New subscriber.
Glad to have you aboard BuckNutz!
Great video! Thank you. I’ve finally decided what unit to buy thanks to this information.
My son bought one for Camp, and we love it.
Great review! What pan did you use to butter bath cook the chicken in?
I do mine the same way except for cream cheese and jalapeños inside wrapped in bacon. That pan is called a mini loaf pan. We have a pampered chef one and it works great and cleans easily. Hope this helps
Your video just made my decision...was torn
thanks...great video!
Great video, my 1150 arrives tomorrow, I am super excited!
I own this smoker. It’s great! Highly recommend
Top Notch Video ! Very informative.... Ive been looking at this unit , we are waiting for the concrete patio to be poured now just a little too much rain.
Really good job, thanks for the info,
i got a smaller first gen pitboss. the ash pot has to be vacuumed out and the slide plate is manual w out the pull lever. so they did some good work upgrading this feature.
You do an excellent job of reviewing products. Thanks! Subbed! Thumbs up!
Thanks for the sub! All the best!
This is amazing .. Exactly what I was looking for!!!
Thanks for watching!
I bought the slightly smaller version of this model two months ago. This video did a good job of reviewing this smoker and I agree with so many of the comments. Assembly was easy but you need two people or super long arms. I pulled it off by myself just barely. Also a good comment that this is a smoker first. I bought it to smoke and am not a big fan of it for grilling. Small area for searing and uses quite a few pellets. Its heavy to move but I think they used good quality wheels for both the fixed and caster wheels. Good on hard surface ok on grass. The only thing I think I would have comment not in the video is the cord is too short or too long. Its about 4-5 feet not long enough to reach anywhere without an extension cord. but long enough that you have to wrap/unwrap. Either put a 10 foot cord or a 12 inch cord.
Over very happy with smoker and the product for the amount of effort needed. The Smoke It ap is nice that you can monitor anywhere.
Well said MR Cain!
I just bought the 850 series yesterday, 11/19,23. I did my initial burn off today. I can't wait until Thanksgiving. I have a 15.3 pound brisket. Great video, thanks.
Sounds good to me. I love a good brisket, so let me know what time dinner is... ;)
Explained the features extremely well
Just find out in on the market for a smoker for Father's Day thanks to my wife. This video helped me commit to the Pit Boss. My father in law has the older model and loves it over the Traeger and Rectec, and my mother in law said it was the easiest gel she's ever used. The folding front tray is a huge bonus and it comes without extra cost. This will compliment my kamado joe! Thanks for the video. Subscribed!
Congratulations! All the best with your new smoker, and thanks for subscribing.
I just bought this grill this past weekend. It is in my garage waiting for me to put it together. That'll be an after Thanksgiving activity. I'm beyond anxious to start cooking.
Thanks for the video, this grill looks phenomenal
Thanks for watching Ty!
Very professional presentation. Thank you
Thank you Dennis. All the best
Awesome Review, definitely sharing this with my friends. Did you do the 850 sq inch pitboss.
Bloody great review mate👍
Thanks, David! I was holding back because of the controller but I see they corrected that now. Great presentation!
Thanks! All the best.
Love the reviews - I have an older pit boss. The thing seems to run hot always and grease gets down into the bottom of the grill which makes cleaning a big pain. Plus danger of fires. It looks like they’ve taken care of those issues? Thx
First time on the channel but thumbs up for that smoked chile verde.
Wish it had the griddle like the bigger one. Nice review 👍
Just bought one. It's still in car because it turn cold w consistent rain. The next couple days are a repeat so it's my new co-pilot for the next few days. But SUBSCRIBED to u & thanks for making me feel good about this purchase
Great review 💯
Just bought mine and did my first smoke today. I will be following you from now on, great info, real value content without any hype. Great job.
Congrats on the new grill Jeff!
Looking at getting one soon. I think your review clinched it for me. Nice job! If your not getting some kind of compensation from them, you should. Cheers
Thanks Jeff! All the best with your new smoker. As far as compensation goes, we're not great at that part of running a channel yet. Lowes affiliate program is dead, so there's not really anything we can make on sales of this grill. We're learning lessons as we go, lol.
I'm doing some research to replace my four-year-old Traeger and I must say this video was not only excellent and informative, but well produced. One note...I'd update your link to the smoker because the V2 is no longer sold at Lowe's, but they do have a V3 (which I will be heading out later today to research in person). Well done, y'all!
Thanks for the comment! All the best in your search.
Did you buy it?
I absolutely did and love it!
Wonderful video! Curious how you think this compares with the Camp Chef Woodwind series and which you prefer? Thank you.
Awesome job!
You had me at “HEAVY METAL”!
I added insulated oven gasket to the door as it was metal on metal and it also makes the lid snug so smoke doesn’t escape .
So, before I watched this video, I watched your video of the best grills under $1199, and it was great. I see that the pit boss you had in that video, is the sportsman 1100. The main differences to me seemed to be, the shelf on the right side of the 1150 pro VS the removable carry tray on the 1100 sportsman; the PID full color controller on the 1150 pro VS the older style controller on the sportsman; the absence of the "jerky" rack on the 1150 pro VS "jerky" rack on the sportsman, and lastly, the hopper window on the 1150 pro VS no hopper window on the sportsman. Both grills to me, even with those main differences, seem great to me. It seems to me, that with the PRO, you get, if you get the newer model, or get your controller updated, that you get more tempurature control with the Pro. I saw at the end of this video, the things you would like to see better with this grill. I really think the Pro is probably the grill/smoker I would choose, however, putting that removeable carry tray from the Sportsman, on to the pro, would be pretty cool to me, so you could use it either as a shelf, or as a way to start putting some cooked food if you dont have another person bringing you a tray for cooked food, or in case you forgot one on your own, and it could still be used as a shelf. I do like the forward facing hooks of the pro VS the sportsman. So, I think I would choose the pro over the sportsman, but love that sportsman shelf, so, does anyone, or you, know, as you said in your other video that you can upgrade the sportsman controller unit, is the upgraded unit the same that would be in the 1150 pro? Also, that window in the hopper is pretty cool!
So, I guess what I am saying, is, If I could have exactly what I wanted, I would have the sportsman 1100, with the hopper and controller from the pro 1150, or, the pro 1150, and have the removeable tray on the right, with front mounted hooks
Awesome video I’m sold!!!
Thanks Allen. All the best!
I am in the market of getting a smoker and your video was very knowledgable . I am still unsure of what smoker is best for me. I will let you know which one I purchased, but I do like. The 1150. Thank you.
Glad I could help!
Great information, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Put this together alone in about 40 min, quality is fantastic! Can’t wait to fire it up. Moved on from my Traeger after 5 years when the augar went out. Great review!
My wife and I literally just had the same experience. After 5 years my treager keeps catching on fire because the pellet feeder just keeps feeding. I'm so done with it I can't wait to try this out tomorrow
@@85rbrooks Exact same, my traeger caught fire multiple times towards the end, taking away the joy of smoking. The Pitboss has been an all around amazing upgrade you’ll love it!
Well thanks for the review. Just committed to one for 850 cdn which is on sale from its usual price of 1199. Thanks!!
Hi David , I just watched this video again. I have the same smoker with the improved PID, in your video when you showed the box it came in there was a picture on the box that said Smoke Density Control. If you can sometime look into how to produce more smoke on this smoker , in the PID there are the words "Recipe and Set " which does this but it is so confusing how to use it . I find the smoker does not put out enough smoke. The instructions in the manual are terrible. I know the newer PBs have come out with VST so you can up the smoke. Anyway any tip or info you can provide would be greatly appreciated . Thanks for your great videos.
David, thanks for the video review. Can you slow cook a 25 lb whole turkey? Is there enough clearance or room vertically ? Thanks
I recently got the first version knowing that I may need to send back the board. It wasn't an issue of 10 degrees but it wouldn't hold at 225 most of the time. The auger just wouldn't kick in at these lower temps like it should.
Tech support had me do 3 more burn-ins. When that didn't fix it they said they are just going to send me a new one. They don't have the customer mail back their current one anymore to be flashed is what I was told.
Thanks for the update!
The pull handle coming out is an easy fix. Take the screw out of the locking tab and put a thin washer on the screw where it’s machined (no threads. Install and tighten screw and the tab will remain locked down.
I wish everyone did a review like this.
Great review! Quick question on the pit boss lineup. Is there a huge difference between the pro series and platinum?
Platinum has lights inside the cooking chambers and a few other bells and whistles. They’re similar, but the Platinum is a step up, thus the small price increase over the Pro.
This was an awesome review of this grill. I have one of the older models that I bought last year and sadly I paid roughly the same price (100 dollars less). Then I recently saw this one not too long ago at Lowe’s. I think I may have to purchase this model now.
Thanks Tactical_SS! Best wishes as you decide what to do. We can’t say no to another smoker, so I already know how I’d answer that, lol.
Just pick up a smoke daddy Pid controller. No need to get a whole new smoker
@@micahroberts3564 it’s cool I sold my old one to a neighbor. The 1150 Pit Boss is so much better. Such small things they added was a huge improvement from the model I had
Which would you recommend between this grill and the traeger 885? I think this one is a better bang for the buck. However, Traeger seems to just be smooth operation with little complaints overall.
I don't have this one but the older version and let me tell you I love it . I have a offset smoker and gas/charcoal grill combo and it been 1 yr and I haven't touched neither. The pittboss is amazing 1 yr cooking at least 2x per week on it and not 1 single problem. May sale my other grills just to purchase this one. Want hurt to have 2 of the greatest grills on the market 😁 just my opinion. If you buy one you will not regret it promise you . I've cooked quarter of 🐖 to brisket, chicken, porkchop, hotdogs, hamburger, fish you name it and once you learn this grill your wife will never I mean never want to go out and eat again 😜 might even get you some brownie points 😃 .Enjoy it I do ‼️
I love your detailed review format. I hope one day you review the 2nd generation Weber Smokefire because I have been eyeing this baby for a while.
I was in a big box store today that still had version 1 on display, but I really want to see v2. If we ever get the chance, you know we’ll film it.
This was awesome! Thank you❤️👍
Glad it was helpful!
I just ordered mine from lowes. They do delivery and assembly for free. I so can't wait. My first pellet grill was a treager and dam thing caught on fire wasting a brisket on first use. That could of literally burned my house down since it was right next to it on a wooden porch. So, I am still getting a little ptsd from that for using these. How is finding grill grates for this thing when needing to replace?
Great video, thanks for the info. Doe's the hopper have a way to dump the pellets?
Yes it does
love my pit boss pro!!!!
Thanks Joe
Excellent video! I heard the WEIGHT of the grill mentioned...does anyone happen to know what GAUGE steel is used? I can't find this anywhere on their site for the newer model (PB1150PS2)!!
Bought mine on Labor day. Just got it together and fired up now. Going to smoke chicken leg quarters as soon as it's cured out. Beautiful smoker - grill.
Hope you enjoy
Thank you loved the vid
Thanks for watching Wyatt.
Awesome video. What is that your using to hold the chicken thighs? Also can you share that recipe?
New sub also. You are great on cam and I cant wait to try out some recipes! I am 95% gonna get this grill, just watching memorial day being so close. My Lowe's has 11 in stock and Im watching...I also eyeballed the Recteq 700. It has a high smoke setting but they guy in the video mentioned he still prefers a smoke tube. So Prolly not worth double. I'm dumping my Kamado Joe after months of terrible outcomes.
Good video.
What the width without the shelf...I have about 57" to work with besides my kamado and its table
And how far does the stack stick out
I'd really like that ash cleanout feature, do any of the smaller units have that?
Which smoker do you prefer out of this pitboss and the Treager ironwood 885?
Your chili verde looks amazing. I'm a big fan of chili verde. I go to some good Mexican restaurants that make excellent CV but when I do it at home it's not quite right. If it isn't quite right then it's a big disappointment.
Could you do a video on making your chili verde? Thanks!
So my question is what is the middle silver plate made of?? Does it rust easily?? Thats the issue I am having with my current pit boss… Its not a pro series so wondering if they made upgrades to that…
Just got mine home and its broke the auger won't run. Pop pid control and squeeze the circuit board it will run. Now I need to see if lowes will take it back
Thank you
i got a new 850 pro and it did the update on its smoke it app
Great video as always. I am torn between this and the Gravity Series 800. I currently have a small pellet grill, Weber Performer, and an ugly drum. Which way would you lean between the two, now that you have cooked on both? Thank you and keep the videos coming
It’s funny I’m in this very same debate. I’m leaning more towards this just because of the research on the gravity with the fire box getting too hot and warping and melting it that you almost have to buy a modification insert to prevent this makes me a little worrisome about the longevity of it. I’m thinking this will prolly be the one for me.
@@Rudy8558 exactly the way I feel. I hope this can give the smoke flavor I'm desiring for on a steak, ribs, or brisket. What yah think?
A lot of people seem to have this conundrum. It doesn't make any sense to me. 1 is charcoal and 1 is wood pellets.
Great video! It's not good that the temperatures are set in 25° increments. Can you get the PID controller updated and fix that? Increments of 5° would be optimal.
I believe you can send your controller to
Pit boss now for a firmware update
Thanks David, love the reviews. I'm starting to narrow down my choices, I think. Curious of your thoughts for someone single, will host gatherings from time to time, have a very nice Weber gas grill, looking for a smoker that is quality, but not too crazy when it comes to price and size. Pit Barrel? Rocky Mountain? Pit Boss vertical? Other? Thanks, cheers
I don't think he looks at comments after the initial posting.
I will never have any other kind of grill they are quick easy to use and can do anything on them.
Great Video on the Pro 1150. Do you what Pitt Boss models come with the "Ash Pot Access Clean Out" ? Or is that just in the Pro Series? Thank you in advance.
I'm not sure which models come with that, Timothy. They seem to be releasing new models all the time, and I can't keep up with what features are included in each line.
Delicious video
The new Pit Boss 1600 Elite looks great and is brand new from Lowes. Please review.
Does this have a hopper clean out so you can change pellets flavors
Just bought a 850, haven’t used it yet. Sure hope no problems. I’m interested in your chicken breast cooking pan. Where can I get one?
Do you have to be connected with your phone to the same wifi network to operate the grill or can you operate it from anywhere?
Would this be effective for grilling for a large crowd?
For instance cooking 15+ burgers?
HOW DO REPLACE THE IGNITER ON THE 1150 PRO SIRIES
It would be sweet if it came with rotisserie attachment.
Dave your the barbecue guy hands down. You thoroughly described it to a tee . Can’t wait for your recipes.
Very kind of you Jeremy. Working on some recipes right now, and they'll be on the channel soon. Keep smokin!
I was all about getting a traeger before finding legit non sponsored reviews which opened my eyes. Glad I didn’t fall for traeger’s marketing campaigns and got a much better bbq
How is cleaning is for let's say grease? I know you mentioned the ashes but maybe I missed it
I'm in the market for a pellet grill/smoker. Thanks for curing some of my ignorance!
We're all learning while we're doing this, so welcome to the journey David! Happy smoking my friend.
I just found your channel, I love it. I live in Canada and I want to buy my first smoker (so yes I'm a newbie). I was set on the Pit Boss 700 as I like the lever to switch to searing but then I saw your video on the Master built 800. So now I don't know which one to get. I feel like the Master built 800 offers even more with the griddle and the taste of charcoal. Thoughts ?
The Masterbuilt is truly 3 grills in 1 with the inclusion of the griddle. The charcoal taste is stronger than the pellet taste on meat from my experience, but my review was that the Masterbuilt still had some electrical bugs in the system that caused my unit to turn off unexpectedly. Maybe they’ve worked that out now, I’m not sure, but either one could be a great smoker for the back yard.
I have the same smoker and do not have the 10 degree increments. How did you get that? Is there a software update?
Great video
Thanks treepizzle. All the best!
I did my self what a job having trouble with controller timer app is not good to use it is like some one just got off the shelf.
I can't decide between getting the Pit Boss Austin XL and the 1150? Can you help?
I don't know if this has been asked... Can you tell me the box dimensions? I'm trying to determine of I need it shipped.
Great review, have to disagree with the lights though.
HELLO friendGOOD afternoon
THANK you for great SHARING
nice presentation greatting FROM INDONESIA
FULL WATCHED
Hi great summary on the pitboss. This 10deg increment on Pro Series 2 controller, is that true on 850 model also?
And you are saying if somehow if my grill doesnt do the 10deg change then pitboss would send a new controller? I ask because i have a 850 Proseries 2 on sale at nearby lowes but doesnt say if its 25 or 10deg increments.
I haven’t tested the 850, but it looks like they might be the same controller. It’s been over a year since I’ve worked with this model, so I can’t speak to what’s happened with the controller lately.
