Laurence Fox Speaks Out After Court Loss: "I Prejudiced My Own Case" | Julia Hartley-Brewer

  • In an exclusive interview with Julia Hartley-Brewer on TalkTV, Laurence Fox tells viewers he prejudiced his own case by saying he thought "it's absolutely fine for someone to hold an opinion that somebody is racist."
Laurence Fox has said he hopes to appeal after losing a High Court libel battle with two people he referred to as paedophiles on social media.
The actor-turned-politician was sued by former Stonewall trustee Simon Blake and drag artist Crystal over a row on Twitter, now known as X, in October 2020.
Mr Fox called Mr Blake and the former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, whose real name is Colin Seymour, “paedophiles” in an exchange about a decision by Sainsbury’s to mark Black History Month.
The Reclaim Party founder - who said at the time that he would boycott the supermarket - counter-sued the pair and broadcaster Nicola Thorp over tweets accusing him of racism.
In a judgment on Monday, Mrs Justice Collins Rice ruled in favour of Mr Blake and Mr Seymour, dismissing Mr Fox’s counter-claims.
She said: “Mr Fox’s labelling of Mr Blake and Mr Seymour as paedophiles was, on the evidence, probabilities and facts of this case, seriously harmful, defamatory and baseless.
“The law affords few defences to defamation of this sort.
“Mr Fox did not attempt to show these allegations were true, and he was not able to bring himself on the facts within the terms of any other defence recognised in law.”
However, Mrs Justice Collins Rice did not make a ruling on whether describing Mr Fox as “a racist” is “substantially true”, after finding the three tweets in his counter-claim were unlikely to cause serious harm to his reputation.

I've just watched a video of an interview with a mother whose son was attacked, stabbed, and left for dead by nine teenagers. They posted the attack on social media. Their sentence was a £50 fine and an apology letter. Hurty words between adults in this case is worth millions, but a vicious attack on a childs life is worth £50. That just doesn't seem right to me.

Lawrence's heart is bang in the right place.
He's not from a background that equips one to dodge the pitfalls of the law and legal system so he will have a rough time.
Our legal system isn't fair - it's fundamentally discriminatory towards whites, men and Christians. It is this way because those groups are considered to be the majority and the Courts and Police have long since abandoned the notion of 'without favour' for 'we have to keep the mob in check and can't hold minorities to the same standards of law'.
Basically the law has two tracks now. Total betrayal of the British people and our way of life.

In my experience (a Dad who spent 15 years in English Family Courts trying to get Child Arrangement Orders made and enforced) a similar judicial interpretation as discussed here re racism, also exists in respect of fatherhood. A Dad is not in practice an equal parent and is systematically discriminated against because of how judges interpret words and concepts. A Dad is not in practice given equal rights just as it seems white people are not given equal rights under racism laws and the very definition of the word itself. Mum can ignore Child Arrangement Orders with effectively zero punishment and harm done by mum in alienating the child from Dad and Dad's family is barely considered in favour of imagined harm to the child of having Dad care for them equally etc. If Dad ignores court orders he (and the child) are punished with a lack of contact or standing.

Lawrence is taking a hit for the rest of us. We need more people to stick their size nines in and make a fuss. Making a few slightly contentious remarks on the radio, being careful not to ruffle any feathers isnt working. Imagine that in any other walk of life? You get asked about something you don't understand. A smart person says, 'I don't understand that, so I won't comment'. Fox just starts talking. He's put his foot in it about race, gender, women, politics. Surely he can't be an expert in all of these?
Of course he's entitled to his personal opinion...just as much as Alan down the pub. But Alan down the pub doesn't have celebrity status, so can probably spout any old rubbish without anyone really caring.
I don't agree with anything Fox says, but I appreciate others do. So in that respect, he's like any other person. But...they haven't had their face on millions of televisions. His celebrity status has pulled the rug from under his own feet. If he was a 'nobody,' like most of us, he wouldn't be in this mess.
But...he seems to want it both ways. An opinion of his own, but at the same time a large platform from which to voice this, in itself supported by acting and TV. I'm not sure these are compatible.

Long story short the lady, halfway thru the incident, started to say that she couldn't believe I'd said that. I had no idea what she was referring to, so was not expecting what happened next. she declared she'd rung the police - to which I replied "what do you expect them to do over a right of way dispute?". I drove off, picked up my wife (who had walked the last part of the journey as no progress could be made) and drove back towards home.
I should have seen it coming. the lady rang the police, stated I'd racially abused her, and I was arrested.
the video recording caught everything APART from that bit. The witnesses saw everything apart from that bit. Of course no charges were brought, but she managed to destroy my day and show her children what a fantastic weapon a false claim of racism can be.
the fact that the audio and video recordings, and the witnesses saw nothing , and that my wife and kids are mixed race, counted for nought. she got away with it. and I have no doubt her kids will do the same.

Laurence, if you ever need a bit of peace and quiet, you can come and stay at my house.

If voting for Brexit made me a Racist, so be it. I’m in very good company!
Actually, since leaving the EU, there are other things which have appeared, which not liking very much, would probably place me even higher on a list of a person with racist views. Again, I’m part of a fast growing number of similarly minded people.
Meanwhile, the country is going to the dogs……

I know next to nothing about the law, but what I am taking from this judgment is, that if you are character-assassinated enough, then you cannot be further slandered, by definition, no matter what you are accused of.

For goodness sake, we only need free speech for when we disagree with each other, Laurence is intelligent, passionate and articulate, it's not his fault that he's attacked by brain dead ideologues. If he 'dialled down' his language he'd be taking part in the dumbing down of our discourse and our culture. Stay strong Laurence, we need more men like you speaking truth.

You don't need to know someone personally to know they are racist. The judge showed that Laurence Fox proved himself to be racist.

I feel so bad for Laurence. He is a sensitive soul and an artist -- he does not deserve this.

The trans movement IS fascist. He didn't do anything to the gay pride flag. He did it to the TRANS "progress" flag. And it's spot on.
