Hey!! I'm nearly 50, whatever. Been into the Fall since I was 18 and no matter what age you are or what state of mind you're in, they are one of the best! The SY cover of rowche rumble is cool but it doesn't do anything different! We are Sparta FC!
I actually prefer SY on their own stuff. E.V.O.L. was such a great lp.One of my faves from that era. Never had a long-player w the Fall,(ok,"Slates" is close to a lp..?) but wow,they had some crazy GREAT singles!!!!
I quite like their cover of the Fall the SY guitars give the song a layer or 10 the original didn't have. I am a fall and Sonic Youth fan. Can someone tell me if this is off the peel session. I seem to remember listening to this on a sy Peel session when I was about 17. Happy Daze!
BZZZT. WRONG. I'm a sonic youth fanatic. These covers are a peel session they did after Mark E. Smith of The Fall was bad mouthing them to the press. It was a joke, and well played.
i was wrong about the cuts too, it's 3 Fall songs + The Kinks' "Victoria" which The Fall had already covered on the Frenz Experiment album, i didn't remember that correctly then, lol! Ta very much, Shar, really, not sure about the joke though
Wow this thread is wordy. This is the best Rowche Rumble since the Fall though. Saw sonic youth in London once, pretty good band. Lots of different guitars that sounded the same. I think it was ironic or something.
not sure about the joke cos SY were never any good at cracking them, imao: Master-Dik wears thin after 3 mins (lasts 30), the pre-lp Ciccone Spoof stuff (Burnin' Up & Into The Groove(y)) is great and so is their cover of Addicted to Love (& video) but the lp is a tad heavy on filler; here, instead of 1, just ONE, nasty focused Fall cover, you have 3 bad ones + 1 cover of a cover, and they don't even sound like SY (or The Fall), they sound like The Wedding Present on a very, VERY off day, ffs!!
Blewroomexit, no WAY is this better even by a centimeter. Maybe if you're younger than 32 but the original is SO much better than this homage. This lacks heart or intent other than to do a version of a song the newer band liked.
