There is no tutorial for that, you'll most likely find them in caves or chests.

Try updating the game. If it doesn't work, then it's a server issue.
May i ask a question why u use magma sword instead of ancient?
Did you mean Ancient Scythe? Well, the Magma Sword has a 50% chance to deal extra damage which is very helpful. The black hole attack of the Ancient Scythe however is very rare.

Technically speaking, when magma reaches the surface of the earth, that's when it's called lava, so that's magma in the given context. (Also, we have: Magma tiles, Magma Sword etc)
