I actually forgot to cover my talking point about the Ninja V’s output settings.. I’ll save that for next time
I was only able to catch a few minutes of your opening, then I had to leave. I caught the last few minutes though, you did well for your first time at the plate. Well done. Thank you for your response to my question. I do have a slight modification, my intent is to power the GH-6 with the DC12 battery coupler Via the USB -A from a SMALLRIG V MOUN. FREEING UP THE usb-c on the GH-6 for an SSD. What are your thoughts?
@@enriquemartin8655 Hi Enrique. USB A is limited to 5v and max 2.5 amps. This probably means that you will be limited in terms of codecs and framerates. You can safely try it though, because the voltage is low. But I think testing it before you do a shoot is a good idea. See what framerates and codecs you can record in for a longer period of time. See if it keeps running. I do get why you want to use this setup. Recording to SSD is great for long form recordings. Would be great if we could power and record to ssd through usb c. But as far as I understand that’s technically impossible.
Hope that answers your question
@@RedFrameTech Thanks for your input. I'll try it out, and will let you know how I fare. If you don't mind. Thank again.
No worries. Looking forward to hearing how it goes!
Thank you for the good and concise explanation!
You’re very welcome!
I chose the Ninja V+ for the ability to monitor & record two 4:3 aspect ratio options, 5.8K/24p/420/10-L & 4.4K/48p/420/10-L. This video made me realize that those aspect ratios were a priority over other considerations such as frame rate, and the V+ met the requirements. Anyway, love your work here. Great communication, style, and content. - Repeat viewer
Yeah, makes sense. Thanks for watching 🙂
Thanks for doing this.
You’re very welcome! It’s a lot of fun to do as well
Great video!!!!! Thanks a lot.
You’re welcome 🙂 thanks for watching!
Panasonic g9 LANC
Hi, do you know in the case if I want to use the ninja v just for monitoring (so not shooting on RAW or ProRes .. just I want to record internally with my camera sd card) how can I do playback?
Thanks for watching!
Yes. You can use the Ninja just for monitoring and depending on the camera you’re using, you can hit the playback button on your camera and the playback will be visible on the ninja. Hope that helps!
@@RedFrameTech i am using the LUMIX S5 and the usual button to do playback is in the toching screen (which is not available when i ) :(
You should have a dedicated playback button on the top left corner on the back of your S5. That should do it 😉
you can record in Pro Res with lumix g9 + Atomos ninja v?
Yes you can! ✅
I don’t have v log on my G9 . Will I have V log automatically when I purchase the Ninja V ? I’m looking to shoot progress raw Thanks in advance
V-log is a paid upgrade (around a hundred bucks) for the G9 (original). So no, a ninja v doesn’t give you that. The Ninja V can only record whatever you’re camera is putting out over HDMI. It doesn’t change/do anything to your camera.
And if you’re looking to shoot ProRes RAW, the G9 cannot output raw. The G9II can.
Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Thank you
Whats the difference between G9 and GH5 using the Atomos? I have a G9 and I want to know if is worth it for my camera. Great video by the way, have a good day!
When using the Ninja there isn’t any difference between the G9 and GH5. Same things/settings apply. If you want to shoot higher frame rates in 10bit and you want an external monitor anyway, it’s worth it.
Thanks for watching!
@@RedFrameTech Does the G9 30 minute time limit effect the operation of the Ninja...will the recording be interrupted ?
@@t.j.terrencejames2923No, it doesn’t affect it at all. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I initially got the Ninja V for use with my G9.
@@RedFrameTech 👍🏾
Thank you for your video and I apologize if I missed your explanation on this. Can you cover any limitations with using the Ninja V with the G9 as a recorder? You mentioned the HDMI cable, but can I shoot like I normally do (e.g. with focus peaking and zebras) and have the Ninja V record the clean video while monitoring with peaking and zebras?
I ask because the Ninja V is listed as not compatible with the G9. If the incompatibility is limited to triggering, I think I can manage with manually starting and stopping the recorder. But if I can’t use the Ninja V as a monitor while recording clean video then I don’t think it’s for me.
My main goal is to get around the record limit. A secondary benefit would be a larger monitor.
Thanks for considering my question.
Hi Jeremy. The only limitation is the that the G9 can’t trigger recording on the Ninja. Other than that, you can absolute do what you intend to with the Ninja. Just make sure you have Info Display set to off in the G9’s HDMI out menu, for a clean feed. I also use it to get around the recording limit.
@@RedFrameTech Bedankt voor je reactie. Very helpful.
I'm also joining the discussion, I own the G9 and Ninja V but I get an extremely noisy image, did you manage to bypass the problem somehow? thank you for all the work you do
@@AntonioCangiano1991 I wonder if this is the hi-speed hdmi cable solution he mentioned.
@@officerockstar I tried some but very cheap, in case we update this thread if we find a useful solution
Thx great video...question I had some issue with a prores raw files it went corrupted and I am missing 800 GB of a concert....Was recording with S5. It happened for me for the first time with Ninja V. I had similar issues with BMPCC4K but the recovery worked fine here it is unfortunately not the case...I use Photorec Wich is a great recovery program...any help advice will be appreciated
Yours
Fil
That’s very unfortunate 😱
I don’t have any experience with recovery of prores raw files unfortunately..
In fact, I have never had a corrupted file to this day ✊🪵
@@RedFrameTech the strangest think ever that after the concert I checked the files it was working just fine I played it no problem...no idea...maybe I plug the battery out but it was on lock screen mode...
Could be.
The only piece of advice I can think of would be to not use that same SSD again anymore..
Is the recording limit on the G9 no longer an issue when using the Ninga V?
That’s correct, because the recording device is now the Ninja V. The G9 can put out an HDMI signal without limit.
@@RedFrameTech That's great. Thank you so much for your speedy reply.
@@RedFrameTech Just one more thing. Is there a smaller size external recorder that can do the same job.
@@motebike I wish there was, but as far as I know there isn’t
How is G9 acting if you don't use internal recording and you record only to Ninja? Is stabilization enabled... AF...etc? For example when recording event.
I just know that dial has to be set to "movie" and disabled sleep (economics)... is there anything else you have to take care of?
Thanks 🙂
Good question! Make sure you have constant preview on and set Continuous AF to MODE2.
Stabilisation modes work regardless of whether the camera is recording or not.
And don’t forget to set the HDMI output to 10bit of you want to shoot higher frame rates in 10bit to the ninja.
