Great transcription, Alec, and thanks for sharing it! Three facets of Cedar Walton's improvisational style are apparent here: 1) He understands the bebop language as evidenced by his lyrical, counterpoint-like solo lines 2) He understands and engages with quartal harmony and modal jazz 3) He is a master of sequence.
I hear shades of Red Garland and McCoy, but in the end this solo demonstrates a distinct improvisational voice. The great Benny Green certainly seems to derive some inspiration from Cedar's style.
Classic solo! Great!
Yes. indeed

Great job, Alex! More Cedar please!

@@AlecKatz Thank you for your reply, sorry for misspelling your first name! BTW, I just played in Helsinki, Finland and Chuck Israels, who held a clinic there, had nice things to say about you and was surprised I knew who you are.
@@vova47 Good to hear you've met Chuck. Did you play with him?
I know a fine pianist living in Finland named Vladimir Shafranov, any connection?
Thanks
@@vova47 Haha, the truth has been unveiled :). I have heard your name before and recently I've listened to your conversation with Todd Coolman on his podcast (very interesting). Then listened to a few recordings by you. You sound beautiful!
It is a pleasure and honor to get to know you!
@@AlecKatz Ht Alec, did you get my message with my e mail address? There are couple of things I wanted to ask you.
