Ram Singh Thakuri- The Composer Of Tune Of Indian National Anthem.
Born on 15 August 1914 Khanyara,Dharmasala,Himachal Pradesh.
Captain Ram Singh Thakuri was an Indian Gorkha freedom fighter,musician and composer. Ram Singh Thakuri of 1st Gorkha Rifles Unit had served in INA under the leadership of Subhas Chandra Bose.
The lyrics of the National Anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ was written by legendary Indian poet Ravindra Nath Tagore. Even the original tune of the National Anthem was given by him. But the latest form of the tune which we use today was composed by Captain Ram Singh Thakuri. It was Subhas Chandra Bose himself who told Mr Thakuri to compose the tune in a form in which the INA soldiers could march.
Apart from composing the tune of the National Anthem, Captain Thakuri has composed a number of patriotic songs including ‘Kadam Kadam Badaye Ja’ and ‘Subh Sukh Chain’.
It is very unfortunate that only a few Indians know about the person who gave the tune to our National Anthem. Our National Anthem is great because of its lyrics but its tune add more beauty to it.We all stand for our National Anthem and are very proud to have such a beautiful National Anthem.But it is our duty to remember and appreciate all the legends who created it.
It is very sad to know that we don’t have the biography of this legend included in our syllabus at school. The man who added beauty to the National Anthem and served his country is not remembered by his fellow citizens.
The legendary Indian musician and soldier Captain Ram Singh Thakuri left this world for good at the age of 87 on 15 April 2002 at Bhaisakund, Uttarpradesh.

Hello. Another Bengali here. This song shouldn't be our national anthem because many words in it are in Hindi and Urdu, which many people in the country will face problems to pronounce. Otherwise, the song is supperbb. Loving it since childhood. ❤️

I'm from Sri Lanka. Actually I can understand "Subh Sukh chain" 100%, while I can only understand around 60% of "Jana gana mana" which is written in Bangla.

even though both the songs claim same origins( the present one and the INA one), there is serious difference in meanings ,,, the original song in bengali, named “Bharoto Bhaggo Bhidhata”/(Bharata Bhagya Vidhata) , a 5 stanza poem written by Shri Tagore about God of Destinity of India or literally the God , the Creator who wrote it to taunt the then emperor of India George V during his 1905 visit, in this the poet makes “the God” as the eternal emperor of India in comparision to the human. If you read the third stanza specially, the poet makes direct reference to Lord Krishna with this God, the Avyakta Brahman. This kind of song bears strong resembelence to the Brahma sangeet sung in the brahmo samaj((it became a wasted samaj ultimately)) to which the poet himself belonged.
The netajis version has replaced the God with Indian Nation and is more nationalistic and lacks the beauty of the original poem in meaning but musical rythym is more execellent in netaji’s song. The first version(tagore) is a philosopher’s(rishi) song, the second one(netaji) is soldier’s song.
