- Here's a quick video on what it takes to make your UTV street legal in Moab, Utah. Equally important, be a good steward of our UTV sport by keeping your UTV noise to a minimum while driving through Moab's neighborhoods. Follow these four simple steps and keep the privilege of driving from town to the trailheads.
1. Slow down
2. Don't accelerate fast
3. Avoid neighborhoods, especially at night
4. Be respectful of others

The noise is not a problem...it's the sound of our economy in Moab. If you're not a fan move back to where you came from.
Crazy how people can’t seem to grasp this.
Started in California shit spreads quick when your on the down hill slope!
100% my friend..... i think people forget how the money comes in lol.
You are 100% right. This is all coming from rich new land owners who want to drive up real estate values so they are pouring on political pressure.
Depends on the State. Michigan changes the UTV Manufacturer VIN if you can pass the Two State Inspections; Safety Equipments Upgrades (DOT); MiSOS, when you pass all the TR54 Requirements, changes the Manufacturer VIN to a NEW Michigan Title and NEW VIN. The UTV becomes a "Assembled Assembled Pickup". Legal to drive any road in Michigan except Interstate Highways; Posted Roads and Private Property... Registration; License and Liability Insurance Required. Have to be a permanent resident of Michigan.
this law has been in utah many years ago !! you can drive these sxs on any street in utah not just moab except freeways.
How can I be able to drive it on a freeway??
This is misleading. Utah no longer reciprocates with other states so out of state street legal UTV's can no longer operate on Utah roads EXCEPT in Moab where the local laws allow it. And even that is questionable because Highway 191 (main street in Moab) is a state highway and "technically" out of state UTV plates are not valid on that road.
@@bolzdeep6834 You cannot "...Can't exceed the lesser of the posted speed limit or 50 mph (if on a road that exceeds 50 mph speed limit, must operate on the far right ..."
So if I have a electric utv I can speed because it makes no noise?
Aw man, the beginning of the end of Moab.
Tell me you're a sociopath without telling me
Does it need to be licensed to ride on the trail as well or this is just for street?
Street only. You can trailer to the trails...but not in any National Parks. Not on Shafer Trail for example. I think enduro bikes are ok...if plated...with permit.
If you are you from Pennsylvania and you can register drive the side-by-side and your state are you allowed to travel to other states that doesn’t red shirt that vehicle there
For the most part no. Most states no longer reciprocate so your PA plates are generally only good in PA. And don't be confused, the rules specified in the video ONLY pertains to Moab. The rest of Utah no longer recognizes out of state street legal UTV's so you PA street legal plate means nothing in Utah (except Moab).
So the ohv license plate for 2023-2024 season counts right?
NO, that is not a street legal plate. It just replaces the "Off Road" sticker that was previously required. To be street legal and get a street legal plate, your UTV must have some specific equipment, pass a safety inspection and you must maintain liability insurance (like a regular car).
I tried reading the comments to find out what wtf moab is....
Can’t do it in Kentucky has to be hauled no matter what
But I had to take the muffler off. I needed more power haha :P
Turn signals required? You can't signal with your left arm?
Vince Ruland, What's wrong with turn signals?
@@57HarleyDavidson I was just wondering why you couldn't signal with your arm. Seems like a waste of $ to add something that you can do manually
@@vinceruland9236 There's nothing wrong with hand signals but my opinion Turn signals are easier they are also easier for people who have hand controls in there vehicles.
No different than a bike!
@@57HarleyDavidsonthe average turn signal kit that’s ugly as hell is about 350 bucks
Freedom to travel issued by congress on federal court says you don’t need a license or a insurance to go from one point to another it’s a man right. Only comercial or business related vehicles traveling in the roads needs a license plate or a insurance no personal vehicles including sxs are subject to any DMV requirements that’s just imposed violation of man’s rights to freely travel for the pressure of happiness recreation.
You can travel from point a to point b other than using a vehicle. You can walk. Run. Horseback. But if you want to operate a motored vehicle, there are laws, because all it takes is one jackass to ruin it for everyone. It would be nice if everyone was courteous and looked out for others. But nowadays they only look out for themselves and think their issues or needs are more important than others. Its simple though. Want to drive on a city street outside of Moab? Gonna have to get it registered to operate it on said city street. Also maintained by the city. Whoever is responsible for fixing it, can charge you to use it.
If it's legal in your home state and street legal then why the hell is the speed limit 15mph? It's street legal sxs. It's no different then a jeep or anything else. Sound is not an issue when you purposely buy a home next to a train. The rail road not going to stop running because you moved there.
Worried about noise but u have 1000s of noisy ass diesel running up and down.rather here side by side than a nasty diesel smoking the place up and sounding like crap
Why can’t California do this!
I believe you meant Commiefornia.
It used to be that if you had a house on Catalina Island, you could register a UTV / ATV for street-legal use and it was street-legal on the mainland, too. I had a neighbor in Capistrano Beach that used to pick his kid up from school in a license-plated Yamaha Rhino, and he could do that because he also had a house on the island.
One of the many things democrats who have moved to Moab have ruined!
What does that even mean?
@@galactictomato1434 it means there was a time when you could cruise around moab with out a licensed vehicle going tril head to trail head. Then in recent years democrats from California starting moving into Moab and changed the city ordinances, complained, and requested local law enforcement be tougher on those riding around. Thats when sand hollow really got ramped up and now people go there to ride rather than Moab. typical democrat move destroy every good thing going.... (Like our country). sad but true!
@@randy1568 put something in this guy’s mouth,my zipper is stuck..crybaby 😢
@@randy1568 Tell us more. I'd like to know how how you know newcomers are Democrats from California.
@@randy1568 We need to build a wall around california
And then nuke it
SO YOU CAN GET TAGS FOR A UTV ? WHAT DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY ITS SO HARD TO GET TAGS FOR A KEI VAN OR TRUCK AFTER A CERTAIN YEAR. THEY HAVE TO BE 25 YEARS OLD MOST ARE IMPORTS FROM JAPAN. NOW YOU CAN GET NEWER ONES BUT FOR OFF ROAD US ONLY. THEY SAY YOU CAN GET TAGS IN SOME STATES. KEI VANS AN TRUCKS ARE WAY MORE USEFUL THAN ANY SIDE BY SIDE. SOME HAVE AC, POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, POWER WINDOWS, 4X4 LOW HIGH , LOCKING REAR, AN THIS ARE THE ONES FROM THE 90s. THE VANS ARE AWSOME AN UTV ARE NICE BUT KEI TRUCKS AN VAN AN WAY BETTER FOR THE BUCK
So your saying I need a license plate but my state issues a sticker which is the same as a plate. Free to travel anywhere in the US. Just saying it's not a unique privilege. Paid for tags no different than a car. Liberal sheep!
This is the best step to destroy a nice neighborhood
Too bad. They cannot regulate these. They are legit, plated street legal vehicles. Funny how they also do not apply the same standards to even louder Harley Davidson motorcycles, big, diesel trucks, etc.
The whining and complaining is mostly coming from the new rich land owners, many from Denver who want to drive up the resale value of their investment properties and rentals. Leave the UTV people alone. Most locals do not have an issue with it. UTV's have been in Moab for decades. Only now do these rich people want to make it a political issue. Go away.
