- Traxxas TRX-4 ESC/Transmitter Functions explained. ESC has 5 different modes to choose from. The XL5 waterproof ESC is pretty nice! Also explained is setting ESC for Lipo or NiMH batteries. RC Overdose awesome Dev! Ya simple thing but it makes a difference on the electrics. Mine has stayed in the crawl mode since I got it haha. If I want to go fast I got other rigs for that.

Great demo of what makes it tick. Cruise control thats one I haven't heard before until your other video you mentioned about it. I'm in the middle of trying to figure out how to program my Spektrum DX6i 6 transmitter for all the options needed to run my coversion build. Its a pain in the ass lol...Great video thumbs up.

Great video! You don't have to Hold the Set button to toggle Cruise Control. I just press/tap and its on. These things are Freakin Sweet! I was tossing between getting this one or the SCX10-II, i already have a Honcho from eons ago but I have never had a Traxxas, I originally wanted to get the Summit 1/10 but the TRX4 dropped into the market around the time i was ready to buy. I've added body lights and roof light bar, changed to thinner shock oil, marine grease the diffs/tranny/portals, upgraded servo to a Coreless 29.0kg(can now push car just by steering).
I also had modded the front bumper and cut it because when i mounted my Stamped Steel 1.9 fitted with Interco Iroks, the sidewall lugs were hitting the bumper hard when steering under suspension compression. Slowly looking more and more scale adding little details here and there. This is my first Traxxas ever and i am very very happy, they smashed it with this release!

How do I set my toggle switch to work as shown in the video? Currently mine will lock the front and if I toggle again the front unlocks and the rear locks. I want both to lock at the same time as you show it

I've broke my old summit out and my "throttle trim" knob does nothing. I want to set it up to be throttle trim but I've tried 4 times according to the instructions and it does nothing. I have the older model of your transmitter and I've even put new batteries in it... HELP!

How do you adjust the drag brake? Also if I do crawling and trailing offroad do I have to switch the ESC from crawling to trail, or just keep it in crawling? Thank you!
Leftenant Malachi good question and I don’t know how to adjust the drag brake. I’ve never tried adjusting that and only use mine in crawl mode. I’ve added quite a bit of weight to the truck and it’s still fine in my opinion how it is but that’s my preference. There’s a tea as forum that has lots of great info and you can find an answer there for that I’m sure. If you’re doing more trailing I’d recommend switching the ESC to that mode. It’s better for the ESC.

How do i switch my diff lock switch back to the setting you have which i think is the factory settings, when my switch is all the way back it is on front lock neutral is no lock and all the way forwards is rear lock i dont know how it got switched around
That is factory setting. How mine came out box and how manual explained it
Does the menu button do anything?
My transmitter is flashing green when i turn it on what does that mean? Is it the low battery warning for the transmitter?

What situations you would need to use the rear lock and what situations you would need to use the front lock?
Lock rear, open front for tight high incline corners. All open for trailing and high gear.
All lock Is for when it gets tricky

Raees Goblin No problem and thanks! The braking setup for crawl mode or drag brake is automatically working when in that mode. It locks up the transmission so the truck doesn't roll when on inclines. Which is very helpful for crawling rocks. On the other modes I don't believe it would have the drag brake on tho as that would probably cause it to do a front flip if you let off the throttle while going fast. Not sure if that answered your question but let me know if that's what you meant.
do you know if its possible to put the gear change and diff lockers on the same switch?
I never tried doing that. I don’t think the switch can operate more servos tho.

How do you put it in reverse?
If I use the 3s lipo on the nickel hydrate battery mode will that affect the car or battery?
If you don’t change the ESC for lipo you could over discharge the lipo battery. Setting it to lipo mode is designed to detect low voltage and stop the model from over discharging the battery. It won’t affect the ESC tho.
Sorry for bothering again i oreder my trx i got only 3s lipo pack should i have to set up something on ESC before i plug the battery? Many thanx for your answer.
Heal & Harm no problem. Just make sure the esc is on the lipo mode to enable to low voltage cutoff.

So i am going to say this is the same for the Traxxas Summit? On how the Transmitter works?
I'm going to assume it is but not positive. Don't have a Summit but I'd imagine the products work the same.
Need help. Transmitter won’t turn on. Changed batteries and looked at wires is disconnected and everything is in tacked. Does not want to turn on.

That button is used for programming changes. You'd have to follow the Traxxas guide and it will let you know what button combination you'd need to press for whatever you're trying to do.
you can download a manual from Traxxas online that tells you all the functions these two buttons do there are a lot

Yes the toggle switch has 3 selections. All the way to the left (front & rear unlocked), in the middle (front locked, rear unlocked), and all the way to the right (front & rear locked).
Instead of only front locked..can you ONLY lock the rear?
I'm sure you could if you swapped the wires in the ESC but haven't tried that.
you can swap it. i have done it there is a video showing you how to go through the menu on th transmitter. bit tricky but worth it in the end

Hey can yo tell me where did u get those connectors for battery or maybe can you link the connector type?
I just made the connector with some stuff laying around. You can buy them tho. It's just a traxxas female to a deans male connector. Most hobby stores should have these or they will at a minimum have the stuff you'd need to make one if you have a solder gun.

Do these have steering servo problems? I have one and its junk i haven't used it very much (I use my stampede wayyy more) and it quit yesterday.
If you leave it stock and don’t crank the wheels when it’s stuck I’d say no. If you add weight then ya the stock servo is underpowered for the truck.

How do I check which mode my ESC is in without changing?
Unfortunately there isn’t a way to see which mode it is in besides being knowledgeable on each mode and driving it to see how it’s running.

Raees Goblin next vid will be either tonight or tomorrow. Have new rims and tires for it and have to finish. Also going to make a hobby store trip in search of a lighter body for rock crawling as the stock body is too top heavy. Looks great but it reduces performance and causes rollovers. I will be taking it to the rock crawling park this weekend as well. On the channel there's vids of this truck, or demo model I should say, running with some other modded rock crawlers. Short answer, yes new vids coming soon!

if you in insert NiMH and have the low voltage protection there is a process to make it work. otherwise it will always low voltage protect. video on traxxas channel.
Cruise control is awesome when you are walking along the trail and you don't want to use your finger for some reason
How would that remote work on a traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl?
Anthony Cuff I would assume it would work just fine for throttle and steering.

Tony the toggle switch is for locking the differentials and the red switch is for high and low gears on the TRX. Those won’t do anything on a rustler tho as the rustler doesn’t have those options designed into it.

Adam Senig yes it can be switched but the rest of the rig isn’t designed for it.

Adam Senig I haven’t really looked into doing a swap like that but I’m thinking there would be some issues. I’m not sure the motor would line up with the mount. Ya I’d have to agree I don’t think any of the modes would work either. Also not sure how the drivetrain parts would handle the higher rpms either.
R/C Arsenal gotcha. Just was thinking it would be better for going through water and mud being sealed. Plus it would have some awesome torque. A guy on here that does reviews put a brushless in the bronco and in a 6x6. They were insane. They weren’t Traxxas motor though.
Adam Senig ya the extra power is always more fun!!! I’ve seen a bunch of rigs where folks put brushless motors in and usually before they run a battery through it things are shelled out somewhere. I put a mamba set up on that little 18th scale yeti jr and it’s ridiculous. Find myself being extra careful not to tear things up as the stock drivetrain just can’t handle that much power. I don’t doubt getting a vxl combo on it at all. I just don’t know first hand what all you would have to mod to make it work.

oh ok. That depends which mode you have the ESC in.

Example would be adjustments to steering, throttle, braking etc. On aftermarket transmitters there's a digital screen so you can see exactly what you're messing with but on this you transmitter you only know what's going on by the blinking light on the transmitter. I've never messed with the factory settings on a traxxas transmitter but in short that's what the menu button is for. Like I said, you'd need to see the chart that shows exactly what all you can do and how to get to the specific function you want to mess with.

Pop Wall yes it is! Some folks don’t look at the manuals and others get these used and do not have the manuals. The traxxas website also has the info as well.
