I think this the most beautiful of the many versions to which I have listened.

This is probably my most favorite aria, it gets deeply inside the soul.. and soothes it with it's tender beauty.

BytomGirl a couple of years ago on CZcams I recall exchanging communications with you about Korngold's Straussiana. I love that you love this area too

This was one of my top three pieces in the Classic FM Hall of Fame top 300 for which I voted. It is more beautiful as played here than sung, in my opinion. Not voted for at all, which I cannot understand. This is unbelievably touching and full of deep feeling.

I couldn't agree more. I notice the Nicola Benedetti version has seemed to be played more on Classic FM recently, which is where l heard this, so maybe it will break into the top 300 this year. I think one problem is that there is a lot of music out there but Classic FM tend to play mostly music from their top 300.

I agree with each point you make.... Especially the violin over voice in this case.... It doesnt come much better than this piece...

Korngold was just 23 when he composed this masterpiece. I had to look hard to find a video of it which didn't feature an opera singer performing it. It's all about the composition, not the singer.

This is an excellent version but you may also like to search here for "Nicola Benedettie Marietta's Lied". Quite honestly I'm not sure which I prefer - though the sung versions by Renee Fleming are also very moving.

Ummm....It’s opera. Of COURSE it’s about the singer. Any instrumental arrangement, however good, is a separation from the original intent.
If I were arranging for my own instrument, I would emphasize the climaxes with double stops, as in the original, where a solo cello blends with the soloist.

Geoff Chalcraft if I may recommend Schwartzkopf’s version. Makes me cry every time.

Music is aural, not visual. The camera work is very distracting. Why change camera Angles every 5 seconds?
Lovely playing, though. I can just close my eyes and the camera problems go away, haha.

    Prefer the original sung version.
    Listen to Joseph Schmidt.
The pianist is great, but I do not like the over sentimental interpretation by the violonist. Would have been much better if she would have played straight lines...

The videography is awful. The constant changing of views makes me ill and detracts from the serenity of the music.
