Funniest comment bruh
You forgot to mention the best part: Belle already had three home runs in this game. He was looking for number four. That's why he didn't want to take the HBP.
That's fucking badass thanks for sharing that. Really would have set the scene of Jomboy had mentioned that
Makes it more personal that he got hit. Wrong dude to try and push off the plate, they might as well have walked him
Why would he have to mention it? If you pay attention you can see it on the screen/video
@@dominicc1981 All of this is on the screen, so technically he shouldn't have to say anything, right?
Michael Biscay why are you repeating what I just said
Met this dude when I was 8. He was the largest human being I had ever met by that time. Probably still to this day. He squatted down to get eye to eye with little ole me and told me “listen to your father now, or I’ll hear about it.” I’m still on my best behavior within my pops presence. 😂

Lol hate to see him in a bad mood
Must have been a non roid rage day
best part is, nobody wanted to argue with him. they called his coach over to deal with it. XD
Truth....
I would too! Dude was a monster!
What's crazy is that nowadays they would have just given him the magical walk to first base.
for sure, play on.
He was on a mission
That would be an *awesome* rule change: "At his sole discretion, a hit batsman may decline to take first base, in which case no pitch had officially been thrown."
What happens if the pitcher throws at him again?
@@my3dviews Same thing? (Why not?)
@@my3dviews he gets to throw it back at the pitcher, who isn't allowed to dodge. (This some baseketball sounding shit, but I love it lol)

Albert Belle had 50 Home Runs and 52 doubles in 1995. He slugged .690 with nearly a 1.100 OPS. Somehow he didn't win MVP.
The only reason I knew this is because it shows 50HR for him on World Series Baseball II on Sega Saturn and I always picked him for homerun derby.
Well because when u treat people the way he did, theyre not gonna vote for u
Yeah that was the year Mo Vaughn won it. Only thing Mo had more of was hits but not that many more. And Mo struck out about 60 more times too. Not sure why Albert didn't win it.
this is why i have so many of his baseball cards.
I'll bet that made him mad.
Belle was something. He would glare at the pitcher like he wanted to do terrible things to his family and you'd see his lips moving like some crazed killer talking to the voices in his head.
Max Scherzer as a kid: Ok, I have to look crazier than Belle.

No crap. They was like who are we going to get too get him to 1st.
@@3ddiagnosis654 Ump had a look on his face that said, "not sure, does he have to go to first?"
They weren't scared or confused. The truth of the matter is, umpires don't always know for sure whether or not a pitched ball hit a batter, especially back then before video review. They will look to the batter's reaction to gauge the situation. If the batter is wincing in pain, or automatically starts going to first without waiting for a call, etc... But since Belle stood there acting like he wasn't hit, the umpire didn't make him take first because he assumed he really wasn't hit by the pitch.
Of course they were... guy's juiced out of his mind raging with a bat in his hands.

It's still hard to believe Cal Ripken and Albert Belle were on the same roster. Two incredible players who could not be more opposite.
+Brantley Henninger did you notice on Ripken hit, the guy in the field jumped over the ball without trying to catch it. I dont get that. It is his job to catch the ball, not let it roll by and wait for everyone to run around them bases. Smh.

official umpire mechanic for the Belle Rule
One game while playing for Baltimore, Albert hit a home run, and when he got back the dugout to receive his high-fives, one of his teammates started kidney punching him from behind. Belle turned around quick with a glare, ready to kill whoever was punching him. It was none other than Cal Ripken, Jr. himself. Albert immediately laughed it off. Anybody else would have died that day. Cal was one of the boys more than anybody ever knew.
Crazy the Cal is in his 60's now ... God that makes me feel old.
What a great story. I'd love to see that video
I was a usher for the Cleveland Indians from 1995- 2001.
Fabulous experience!!!
Until he left Cleveland we saw him every single day they played @ home ,as well as, the other amazing players
Albert was always kind and introspective.
Intense @ times but always approachable.
Usually he was quiet but cool with a head nod.
We talked briefly once. A truly memorable experience.
The convo was initially tense, tight and then heartwarming and especially thoughtful.
Sometimes he was with his twin brother who very cool and pleasant.
But Albert was normally pretty receptive to saying hello, a nod or wave to usher before the game...when respectful.
He never was disrespectful to me.
He should have been MVP several years but he wasn't an "Media Darling🤦🏾♀️"
Which was ridiculous because he was a 50/50 man in 1995!!!
The 1995-1997 Indians are still my favorite.
But I love our players this year
Albert still remains was one of my favorites✨️🌟✨️

Albert Belle's 1995 league leading stats:
50 HRs, 126 RBI, 121 Runs, 52 Doubles, 377 Total Bases, and .690 Slugging Pct.
MVP award goes to Mo Vaughn???
What were his stats you ask?
39 HRs, 126 RBI, 98 Runs, 28 Doubles, 316 Total Bases, and .575 Slugging Pct
In fact, Albert beat Mo in nearly every statistical category
BA: .317 to .300
OBP: .401 to .388
OPS: 1.091 to .963
BBs: 73 to 68
However, Vaughn did league the league and nearly doubled Albert in one category- Strikeouts: 150 to 80
This might be the greatest MVP snub of all time. Albert was not liked by the press, and that is the only reason I can imagine why he did not take home the trophy that year, or any year for that matter.
Could make the argument he got snubbed in 98 too. Definitely didn't deserve 8th place.
Belle: 49 HRs, 152 RBIs, 81 BBs; .329, .399/.655/1.055
Gonzalez (winner): 45 HRs, 157 RBI, 46 BBs; .318, .366/.630/.997
Could have won in 96 too. Guy would have won 2 or 3 if the he and the media didn't hate each other. One of the best hitters of the 90s. Snubbed from the HoF.
Only lost because reporters hated him, and they hated him because they were afraid of him...
@Jason Fonseca Agreed. It's kinda stupid, but so are awards in a way. The fact that sometimes a player doesn't win bc he's not on a winning team is ridiculous. Winning is its own reward. MVP does not stand for Most Valuable Player on a team that made the playoffs. That's the MVPOATTMTP award.
And yes, I do remember 1987, and yes, I do know who Mike Trout is. But for the most part, the MVP award goes to a player on a winner.

I remember him playing down at AAA Colorado Springs, the lineup they had was amazing, Belle, Thome, Baerga, Swindell, etc...
Swindell never played for Colorado Springs. He only pitched 3 games at Class A Waterloo and then was brought to the show in '86.
I'm sure after watching Belle's reaction, the pitcher was hoping he'd be forced to go to first as well. If the pitcher had been forced to throw again to him, that ball is going 500 feet
Or through him (the pitcher) on a line drive.
Eh, Belle was a shell of his former self by ‘99. Also, he was a fucking hothouse flower so he was well-known for stunts like this.

MLB leader in RBI's during the 90's
MLB leader in Extra-Base Hits during the 90's
4th player in history to have 8 straight 30 HR and 100 RBI seasons

@@TheSpringMood Bruv, don’t hate the player, hate the game!
In the slow replay look at how long Belle stares at the ball before getting hit. Surprised the fastball didnt chicken shit and turn into a slider
LOL I had almost forgotten about this, Albert Belle was such a badass.
Albert Belle was a genius In HS and College and a beast at the plate . Legend
Albert Belle was my favorite player growing up. I lived in Cleveland at the time. Over all the years I’m not sure I could pinpoint why he was my favorite. Now I can, so thank you Jomboy. 😂
Same. We didn't know people could be assholes yet
Even if he was,he was legendary at baseball
I saw him with the Sky Sox when I was a kid, he went by Joey Belle then. Had a bunch of homerun balls from him but the moment I remember most was after a strikeout he went into the dugout bathroom and proceeded to smash the sink with his bat. The acoustics of smashing porcelain in a stadium is something I'll never forget.
Growing up in Cleveland boy it was fun watching Belle play I loved when he ran over the 2and baseman to break up a double play lmfao
I was at this game and it was epic. Still remember it as a 12 year old. Albert Belle hit three home runs that game, Cal hit his 399th home run, and then hit in the game winning run with the bases juiced.
I was there in Cleveland for this man’s greatness as a hitter. There were many games where he was a baseball god. His talent and power and drive will not be seen often. “ALBERT, ALBERT, ALBERT...”
