The factory stereo systems that come in the Sprinter Vans from Mercedes Benz leave A LOT to be desired. After all these vans were designed to be delivery vans and NOT necessarily made for traveling thousands and thousands of cross country road trip miles. But we ALL love to turn the volume up and jam out to our favorite tunes on the stereo while we hit the open road with the wind in our hair. Enter RoamRig with their BeatBox stereo upgrade system designed specifically for the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Vans. Check out this video as the folks over at RoamRig install the beat box into my sprinter.
Usually when opening doorpanels it is a good idea to add also sounddampening/thermoinsulation material ;)
This is a definite game changer, using the OEM stereo without having to find a place to put the amp. Sign me up! Thanks for sharing Chad. Next time you're in San Diego look me up, I've got extra surfboards or a spot on my driveway.
Nice setup. But it screws everyone that has their diesel heater under the passenger seat. Hopefully, other systems come online soon. Thanks for the vid.
I built a sub box like this because I wanted a 10" sub and already had a JL amp config. The sound in the van absolutely kicks now! You'll also notice a big difference between playing with the usb in source vs bluetooth.
I bet you also did it for a fraction of the cost. $3200 they want???
@@1jetmd777 well the $3200 includes wiring harness, speakers, sub, tweeters, amp and a turnkey install. This is absolutely fine for 99% of people.
I wanted my own amp/speaker/sub config but building the sub box took a few days to get it right as I’ve never attempted something like that. If you have tools & time on your hands diy is always cheaper.
150W in each door? That's just nutty! 🤘
Looks great, only thing I would pick up on...(in my pointless internet opinion obvs!) All that hard work and no sound deadening in the door panels....makes a huge difference and adds little more money considering the price you've invested in the equipment. That said, top guy, top videos/content and top van. Nice one Chad 🤘🏻
Damn right. The plastic door panels are a problem. I have just ordered Fisher Audio Helix speakers for the whole van with a DSP processor amp and Halo 9 but moreover tons of deadening to it. I have seen the Sprintera fully insulated in the creavices and man it makes a difference.
Good tunes eat up the miles, like a magic carpet ride. Add those woofers under the seat are a bonus : a massage as you drive those miles- THATS really nice !! Too bad we even have to stop for gas !
I was going to say what's up when you rolled through winthrop about 2 weeks ago but I was headed to twisp ! The van looks absolutely bonkers in person !!!
Very informative…..thanks. I appreciate the tech talk. You should do more
Hey Chad, i got my Roam Rig battery system and Beat Box installed this Summer at Aaron 's place in CT, it rocks. Love it.
Awesome! Glad to hear it’s workin well for ya. I love mine.
Great to have you in the shop Chad. We'll see you out on the trail!
Hey, thanks again! Looking forward to it- Cheers!
Love ours! Installed it this summer in CT. Made the trip back to AZ much more enjoyable.
After seeing/hearing the bigger speaker in Moab now kinda wish we'd had the 10 in as an option. (there's always something!)
what a super commercial for Arc Audio and RoamRig
Nice little setup. I recently crammed a 12 inch sub behind my rear seats on my Tundra...Luckily, it appears you had plenty of room under the seat compared to what I had. 😂😂
15:30 - I was an automotive accessories installer for 7 years and the best part of my job was the demo.
That’s a really great budget friendly option.
Advanced RV has a system made for the Sprinter, using JL Audio. I'm sure JL Audio would be happy to share the information! It's similar to this. Very nice, Chad!
Just picked up my sprinter today after getting the roamrig stereo upgrade!! Sooo awesome!
Cool! Enjoy!!
You can tell by the smile on your face that the sound is great 😊…👍
One thing that my parents Class A motorhome ad was a "Drive/Park" selector on the car radio for choosing a power source.(for renting off of engine power while driving or your house or shore power when the motor was off).
Damn Chad, that would have been the FIRST thing I install.! Your never going to want to leave your van!
good system very needed for long road with good bass ...love listening to it with full volume when it comes to under tunnel damn that sound you roll down your window .
We have to listen by ear buds. Sad. Bottom massage? What a game changer.
Great video, I installed a JL Audio amplifier and 10 inch Yamaha bass driver also under the passenger seat and totally agree with night and day sounds quality, need to upgrade the doors next, but I’m super stoked with the results so far.
Dude, the sprinter factory stereo is trash for sure. I am psyched to eventually get one of these systems in my van after hearing it in NH at an event. HUGE improvement.
quality music makes the journey enjoyable. The expert in the business doubles this pleasure. ✌👍✌
15:15 Chad like a kid on Xmas morning.............that smile. Hell ya
Hell ya Lake Tahoe born and raised!
Sierra Adventure Vans Rocks 🤙🏼
I’m glad aftermarket audio companies are able to adapt and overcome with todays factory head units, since they’re integrated in such a way that putting an aftermarket single or double din stereo in isn’t an option.
Good for you. All cars/vans should be will a great system. Base is great. Hope u enjoy!!!
Chad, that system looks like it absolutely rocks! Love a great sub woofer and some kick ass bass.. I used to run a FLI Trap 12" sub woofer in the trunk of my car and that used to kick ass... So handy yours is designed to sit under the passenger seat, that is sick man! No doubt great clarity on the sound and I bet no distortion when its cranked up. ✌🏻
Nice sound Chad. I heard you all the way back here in OH. Hey, travel safe and enjoy your music. The louder, the better.
Jase from MD here
Always nice to have a nice good 'full-sound' tunes in ya ride! Makes the trip a bit more enjoyable!! And I dig the tune ya did for the test! When you were in Canyonlands in the Vanagon ID pump that tune when Id watch!! Must put that tune in you Mt. Baker snow vid coming up!!!
🍻🍻🍻🍻!!!!
You are the best van video journalist for sure. But for my perspective, your earlier vanagon tubes were notably better. Very good video and experience factors. I can only speek for myself in asking, who cares about your audio thinking? That's just outside the box.
I miss the Westy. 😢 You brought it the trade show, so you still have it. Maybe switch back and forth between the two? The Westy Vanagon has a ''sentimental charm and character'' the Spinters don't have...yet. Maybe in 30 years. 😄
Movie nights will have a cinematic sound , Bluetooth your laptop to that rig for great video experience . 👍😎
Thanks Chad! Love to watch your videos! Any videos about your van life!👍👍
Hello! I'm from Kazakhstan 👋🇰🇿
Bro you have got very serious editing skills too...🙂
Greetings from Turkey 🇹🇷
CHADSTER MY MAN how many miles have you put on that sprinter van I'm curious
SOUNDS great Chad, good luck and enjoy 💯
Cool mod.....fairly new sub going through your videos.......worth while mod I'm sure.
I follow your videos with a lot of interest, greetings from Rome, good life 🤙
Thank you for another awesome video Chad
Great video Chad...great upgrade. Does your sound system extend back into the living space of the van with additional speakers there?
Yes! My question exactly. Want to Tailgate with the back open. Need the extended Audio
I live your vids and the build of the van!! My dream is doing something similar - just waiting for my son to leave the house!! 😅
I’ve made myself a custom build on paper - some solutions like yours and some others I want (toilet/shower). I live in the arctic zone so need to have that in mind. Thanks for all the inspiration and your good hearted nature - looking forward to more videos!! 🙏❤️
If you've never done an upgrade from stock audio, trust when I tell you, it will change your life!!
Nice upgrades. Can you share the song that you tested the stereo with? Love me some good 80s synth
Awesome features👍👍
I have an old Infinity Basslink that I want to try to use. But I forgot all my hack skills installing sound equipment. I guess I'll try Crutchfield. I wonder if it will work like yours.
Fab vid. Thanks! Can you tell me what you’ve done with the center speaker? Does it still work? Have you disabled it? If so what about the sos contact with Mercedes? Thanks 😊
Damn Chad, you must have a ton of videos to upload!!! Lol .. I saw Talon's vid from Moab with a sneak peak of Trucker 🙂 best wishes man
Great video and I like change in content! Real question, the kit is $3k + installation but pricing out the parts minus the custom box is under $1,200... why such a big markup?
Hi there! Glad to add some more clarity. The boxes are quite expensive. CNC'd wood, glued together in a jig, and coated with bedliner. There are also custom harnesses that are included with each system, adapter rings for the door speakers, and other parts that make this a lot more than just a pile of parts from a catalog.
Thank you :)
Like the quality of this set up.
But sadly, I have my diesel heater already under the passenger seat.
Whats the music your listening to, I really like it. Great channel
You're crazy - but Brave and Intelligent too.
Wondering if that spare battery is helpful in cold weather applications?
I guess you could always jump from your house system.
Hi! I want your plain grey hat! Who makes it please? Love the sound of your new system! Awesome!
Just a heads up, you can buy the best system on the market such as show grade level for thousands of dollars. However, if the audio signals/frequencies are not properly (scientifically) tuned using an audio oscilloscope, you have just wasted thousands of dollars as you are not receiving outstanding audio due to failure of properly tuning the system. Again i'm not stating that's the case with your audio system, i'm just generally speaking. 👍
what was the music track we heard? anyone know? I would like to listen to that 👍👍👍
Yeah for real. Nice driving music for sure!
Nice video 💜
What did you end up doing with the mis-wired dual coil center speaker in the dashboard? Simple disconnect?
Old speakers Made in Poland 😁 pozdrowienia z Polski ☺️🇵🇱
Greetings from Israel dear friend
Can the passenger seat still swivel? What's the cost? And the install cost?
Audible man I listen to so many books on the road.
Outside skirt lights next?
Nice 👍
Hey Chad just wanted to let you know this past year my 8 year old daughter died of covid.
Your gonna be deaf soon keep the clarity with the volume down it looks like a fantastic system to be fair another great upgrade
Legend
What podcasts do you like?
Is this legit?
First video I have seen from you in a while Chad. When did you switch from Vanagon to Sprinter? I did almost 3 years ago and weird I still miss my van sometimes. Sprinter rocks though. Sadly this system will not go in a Revel since the seats turn around, great video though.
My seat turns around as well. Mine fits just fine. Cheers!
@@LivingTheVanLife SERIOUSLY! I was told it would not work. I gotta check this out. Thanks Buddy! Will give Roam Rig a call. Oh did you do their lithium system as well?
My van is not a Revel. Their battery system is designed for the Revels.
Chad I love your videos, my girlfriend and I are thinking of getting into van life camping. One question, how do you deal with encountering animals in the wild?
To cite in some of Chad's videos, in bear country he has defensive weapons such as Bear spray but he also has a concealed firearm with him for the worst possible scenario. In an encounter, he mostly just stays calm and from a distance. Just like when a bear ran through the mountain bike trail and when he encountered a beaver. Other critters such as snakes and venomous insects are easily dealt with and most of it are prevention. If you hear or see a snake, definitely leave it alone. Critters love to hide in dark shaded places in the dessert so always check your boots before wearing. Wild animals are definitely not pets so do not try to pet any. Just some of the things I think he does. I hope Chad approves too and I hope it helps.
Okay so need to find a place for my heater. Where’s yours?
Built into my cabinetry, about mid-way in the van-
What did he mean by "automatic speed adjustment off" @13:47
THE AUXILIARY BATTERY YOU COULD KEEP IT AND ADD IT TO THE BATTERY BANK YOU ALREADY OWN INSTEAD OF THROWING IT AWAY
That’s not exactly how battery technology works.
So,where does the auxiliary battery get relocated to?
The garbage
Web Site looks to be broken?
I would speculate that a Mercedes car radio will be built by somebody like Blaupunkt, it sounds like they use some cheaper outfit in this setup, or did they?
Considering blaupunkt is a Chinese garbage company these days, I’m not sure what you mean. All of the components in the roamrig beatbox are high quality mid to high end car audio components.
@@munkyak49
Admittedly I only know the name Blaupunkt when they were a "Premium" European brand of car radio, what they've become since then, I'm not aware.
OK I'm a Lil confused, I live in Central Oregon Redmond to be exact and the Overland Expo was here back in July so is this just a really old video and you are just now putting it out or what
Correct.
Do you have all your exterior lighting running off the house batteries? I was thinking about using that auxiliary battery for that kind of stuff.
Yes. You can check out the battery system back in my build episodes-
What brand insulated cab curtain is that or was it custom made for you
Does that system speaker system w/the main brains under the passenger seat work for/with the swivel seat?? That’s a huge make or break for me
Absolutely does work with the factory swivel seat
I'm a big audio guy.....pre fab..no good for me...I love building my audio but I do know some are really good..but most are trash..so if you got something great....awesome....if it works for you
are there any companies or suppliers of similar systems in the UK ?
What part of Washington are you in? I live in the Vancouver area
Would love to upgrade my speakers system! Thanks
👍
Ballpark cost for system / install?
You can reach out to them at info@roamrig.com and ask for a quote for your rig-
I can see those speakers coming standard on fleet orders Std van.
But when you option the MBUX screen, steering wheel controls, driver package with expensive power heated seats and climate control that stereo system is Embarrassing for MB to use.
I’ve had vehicles costing 1/3rd what a 170 2500 4x4 cost with FAR Better stereo equipment as Standard.
I feel like on a long drive it would be annoying to have a vibrating seat?
It’s in the passenger seat. Not the driver seat
@@LivingTheVanLife I know I am referring to the passenger
I don’t ever have passengers
@@LivingTheVanLife lol, I know that! But others might and what are your thoughts on sitting on that big woofer for long periods of time? Some might enjoy???? I love the idea of upgrading the speakers/tweeters and maybe have a little baby sub under there?
It’s just a matter of turning down the volume on the sub if it’s too loud for whoever is in the van
3k plus instalation hmmm.
Chadddddddddd
❤
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍🏼🇺🇸
Hopefully you're thinking of your ear health...lol....sucks to be using hearing aids later in life.
Dude o gonna need to install a DSP to clear the signal properly. The stock head units are pretty bad...now you are amplifying an average signal from the head unit. You need a DSP to clear that signal from the average head unit :)
