I accepted the gift but followed Karlach into Avernus, which is a good ending in my book because now Tav and Karlach can use Bhaal's blessing to help whoop those devils' butts in order
@@helio7455 yes, there are way too many demon AND devil that you’re turning evil just by fighting in the war down there, even lemure and mane are a tough one, not to mention the fact that using the slayer form will just end up making you kill your ally due to how close you are to the lowerplane
This is pretty much the ending I got in my very first playthrough, honestly it felt like a dramatic and enjoyable, if sad, ending. I had played the whole game evil, but resisted the urge on a few major occasions, before finally getting to the final choice and defying Bhaal, then killing myself to protect everyone else. Some of the dialogue with romanced Ascended Astarion, and even just the narrator in the final moments, felt very narratively satisfying even if it did mean my character couldn't have a happy ending. Saying "I'm sorry, I wasn't strong enough to deny him" after accepting Bhaal's gift to Astarion has him respond "Servitude or death... you didn't have a choice... I understand...", and he's the only party member that sympathises with you. Then at the end, he shouts "what are you doing?!" before you kill yourself, and the narrator describes how "you've taken so many lives in the name of your father, but this one, you will take from him, this one is just for you..." and you smile as you stab yourself to death. Its a really sad way for the story to go, but it felt like a very fitting way for durge's story to end in my opinion, a hero in the end, despite everything. It also made withers' speech at the end feel really cool, as it was very gratifying feeling like my choice to turn away from bhaal at the last second began his downfall, so to speak. All in all, its very sad, but killing yourself after accepting bhaal's gift, and defying him, is always gonna be the canon durge ending in my mind.
Honestly ? After reading you i agree. You're not a bhaalspawn. Orion is. But you were literally created by Bhaal hence why you can't walk away without getting killed. So you'll never be free. You'll get your freedom only when you reject Bhaal's gift and he kills you (more like take away blood that made you).
@@troller8680 sorry, by Bhaalspawn I meant a child that was born directly from Bhaal's sex contingency plan or from having one of their parents for a Bhaalspawn.
Thank you for the video currently in an evil playthrough wanted to get the Bhaal related achievements though loss of self and loss of agency does not worth even if it the very end.
You get the same ending if you will become a mindflayer, if someone curious. Also, doesn't it proof that mind flyers have souls, if even after transformation your soul bound to bhaal?
Durge is made from Bhaal’s blood. Even without a soul, he will be forever bounded with god of murder. Unless Bhaal himself rejects him and take his blood back
The game is kindof inconsistent on mindflayer souls and what exactly even turning into a mindflayer even does to you. From what I can tell what Withers meant with illithids being soulless I think meant was that Illithid souls when they die don't go to the god they worship but some other realm entirely. It seems like in this game becoming an illithid is more of shapeshift almost rather than becoming subsumed by the illithid tadpole which I think goes against most existing lore (or maybe it's just the weird situation of how it all came to pass).
This will always happen if you accept bhaal's gift in act 3. At that point the only endings available to you are the evil ending, getting consumed by the urge or suicide. so if you want a good ending you're better off just rejecting bhaal.
@@michaelcox9855 You get informed about Jergal within the abandoned temple in act 1, just before actually meeting Withers. If you have failed the religion/wisdom checks, if might not get these clues.

@@Dur677 this is typical dead three shit, I still remember in neverwinter nights 2: mask of the betrayer that Myrkul used Akachi by twisting him into a virtually immortal twisted abomination so that any action caused by him would feed power back to Myrkul ensuring he could never permanently die. But in relative terms of the gods, the dead three are not that powerful, gods are just by their very nature, extremely powerful. In fact the dead three already all died before, Bhaal was killed by a mortal, Cyric before Cyric was able to ascend to godhood. Every choice makes you become infused with Bhaal's energy, so your own will is now entirely vanished. No romance then, you can imagine that Dark Urge is just going to jump aboard the murder train. The only ending where you're free from Bhaal is if you decide to kill yourself, then the character you've romanced will have a reaction (Shadowheart will scream "No", Minthara will say that you've made the best choice).

I feel like dark urge is supposed to be the “cannon” main character and so the dark urge storyline is just a small part of the main storyline that adds flavor to the main quest - at some point Larian probably decided to let the players choose to play as their own “Tav” and so the dark urge questline was just made from pulling out parts of the main story quests that don’t affect the rest of the main storyline
