    ✅QUICK QUESTION: Do you process mostly in color or black & white?

      Black and white at first to get the contrast right. Then I switch to color and adjust accordingly.

      Feel more confident in black and white, and sometimes it's what fits the scene better imo. In black and white, I feel like it's more about shapes and lum, and that color can be a little distracting. That said, I'm trying to do more with color these days. The amount of color (saturation) is the big question for me. It's a fine line for sure.

    It would be good if they include a button that narrows the selection down automatically with one click, so your not dragging sliders everytime. great explanation, thanks

    The best part of this tool is being able to use this within a mask. I've always wanted to isolate the HSL panel to local selections, but this does a fine job. So glad they did this. Thanks for the video.

  • @probably-nobody
    @probably-nobody Před 8 měsíci +4

    I've been loving this color selection update. I used to do similar things by using multiple intersected masks and it only sometimes worked right. This new way isn't just less clunky, but the results are significantly better. I'm surprised more people haven't been talking about this and the curves in masks. Those are two fantastic additions.

    Hi Mark, thanks so much for your Lightroom videos. I used to shoot a lot in the early 2000s and have recently picked up photography again. When I put the camera down around 2007 Lightroom was only just a thing. Image editing has changed a lot since then and your videos have really helped me pick it up again quickly and start having a good time with my photography. Thank you!

    This is so cool! They are turning LR in a user friendly version of ps more and more!
    I just had this issue on a recent weekend trip where i struggled to get the colors „right“ (as i saw/felt em on location) beautifull white top mountains and fall forest beneath, but i just couldnt get it to look right and i realized the only way would be to spend a lot of time in ps (im not very skilled in ps) or use convoluted radial filters to try and get stuff right. Either the snow was too warm or forest to mushy cold… Both didnt really tickled my interest. I rarely spend hours on a picture edit. This might just do the trick tho! I need to update my lrc asap and test it out! Beside its rather hidden without your video i might not even noticed that new feature!

    Not to sound redundent, but captureone has always been able to do this, but you can also feather it better. I'm not seeing where, or how this is top of the game. Maybe in landscapes, it is useful, but in food and skin tones, it's still a half dozen steps behind captureone in colour management.

    • @JesusChrist-xb7jq
      @JesusChrist-xb7jq Před 8 měsíci +1

      Fair enough, but most people watching this channel are likely landscape photographers, as it is dedicated to that subject. Also, I don’t recall him saying it was top of the game, and in fact said it was catching up to Capture One and “maybe” improving on it, which (depending on how you use it) is an argument that could be made.

      @@JesusChrist-xb7jq 10:37 "It puts lightroom colour control at the top of the game." One can have their opinions, but when your opinion is being streamed it needs to have a impartial fact driven angle. Lightroom is objectively not top of the game. Lightroom doesn't do anything until someone else does it first. Its a hard piece of software to justify a subscription for. Thats not an attack on the author. He seems pleasantly happily with the new updates, that said..these updates have been standard for most ediotrs for over 6-7 years now.

    seems like the transitions will be harsh with this technique. Just drop a gradient mask on the corner and then use the saturation slider in the color picker.
