I've have had a full 5.1.4 Dali system at home and have for around three years now. Great products really aggressively priced.. Full wide sound stage that feels really natural. I'm based in the UK and they are more commonly available over here being Danish... Check out their range, it's worth looking into..
Very good Dali speakers. The Dali subs are very good as well. Articulated bass, good transients and very precise. It’s got that Airiness , exactly as how you have described it. Definitely need subwoofers

Also got to elaborate on the voice of Steppenwolf that that is the reason I think everyone should buy the largest center channel speaker available in the speaker series you get. The voices sounds so much more natural and full with a capable center speaker. And I don't think it gets as good even if you redirect bass frequencies from the center channel to LFE.
Thanks for an excellent and balanced review. I am using the Phantom S280 and S180 in a 7.1.6 setup. Since you now have an AT screen could you consider reviewing those? I think they are underrated - the Phantom S280 and S180's! :)

Hey Shane, I’m looking at the Dali MK2 Opticon LCR, I can’t see to find the Rubicon’s however, would you think mounting one of them side ways an issue (center channel purposes) Looking to run 5 of them for bed layer. Thanks!
Im all sold to dali , epicon 8 , rubicon LCR, epicon vokal, all drive with krell 7200xd, stereo JMF amp , with svs pb16 Ultra, velodyne dd 15 + with main brain for drive all this , Trinnov AL 16

You seemed to like the treble of the Rubicon LCR’s, but were a little underwhelmed by the midrange and bass. I think what you’re looking for is the DALI Rubicon 2. They drop the ribbon tweeter, but I don’t think you’d notice (having compared Rubicon 2 and the extra-tweetered Rubicon 5 back to back, I believe the 29mm soft dome tweeter actually does much of the hard work up top). What the Rubicon 2’s excel at is midrange and bass response, while retaining all the detail, airiness and huge soundstage of the LCR’s. I have Rubicon 2’s for my front three in a 5.1 set up. (I managed to buy a Rubicon 2 single speaker, so have three identical Rubicon 2’s for my front array). They have greater dynamics and midrange heft than my previous floorstanders did. And IMO, in bass and midrange and sheer enjoyability, were superior to the larger Rubicon 5’s I tested. And they’re awesome for 2-channel music too.
One of the benefits of the ribbon is the dispersion pattern. Also it handles the upper frequency range, but the dispersion of it is the really nice part. Oh yeah and also the airyness of a ribbon, but that aside.
I wait for OBERON ON-WALL from dali for my system have dali 6 floorstand. and center back from dali but want better speaker for surround let store special Order for speakers hope Come round start of apríl take some time. To order to iceland. And have yamaha subwoofer

I have Dali Rubicon 8 and center, they have a nad m22.2 each, with a nad m17v2 prosessor. Realy like them.
Shane Lee is your projection screen a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, or is it a CinemaScope 2:35?
I got the cheaper model, Oberon on-wall, for 2.0 stereo setup. They sound amazingly good and unbelievable loud!
I would have also liked to have seen the Dali rubicons in high black gloss.Btw huge difference with or without subs.

You should be fine. You’ll have to unscrew and rotate the midrange and tweeter plate.

@SpareChange You missed one very important detail. The ribbon tweeter only operates from 14khz, so it is more like a super tweeter.
The bluray of ZSJL makes the streaming version look like a can rip

Of course your soft dome tweeter does much of the work. Just look at the specs, the ribbon is only crossed over at 14khz.
