  • Here are my top 3 exercises to increase core strength in scoliosis. As I mention in the video, these are not exercises to correct the curve, just to help strengthen the core and posture and lessen the impact of the curve.
    Equipment Used In This Video:
    Theraband Exercise Ball: amzn.to/3LT7ly0
    TRX All-In-One Suspension Trainer: amzn.to/3dVZbZ6

    I have mild scoliosis and I've been doing exercises and though they're not really intense there are times when I feel a slight pain from my nape down my back. Watching your video made me realize that I'm doing it wrongly by shrugging my shoulders up. Thanks for posting this!

    Thank you so much for sharing. My son's left back is higher than his right. He has autism and it is usually difficult to get him to do anything. I am worried with his back situation. So are these exercises suitable for him? Or are there much easier ones that at least I can make him do? Because I tried the normal plank exercise but I can't get him to raise his body. Such a struggle he can only put his elbows on the floor but he can't lift his body like what should be done. Thank you and I would greatly appreciate any advice.

    • @ashleyg8947
      @ashleyg8947 Před 3 lety

      It does matter which side you do the side plank on as doing it on the wrong side for your scoliosis can be harmful and not beneficial. Do you have one or two curves and which way do they curve?

    • @nabi2485
      @nabi2485 Před 3 lety

      @@ashleyg8947 to be honest, I’m not even 100% sure if I have scoliosis or not. My right side is slightly curvier than my left side (the left side is straight) I did some research and found some people with the same cases as me, they said it might be scoliosis but not major for it to be hurting me/ noticeable.

    • @ashleyg8947
      @ashleyg8947 Před 3 lety +2

      @@nabi2485 maybe consider getting an x-ray since scoliosis can and tends to get worse as you age if you're still growing then. Or, you can try a little experiment where you bend down and touch your knees with both hands and have someone look at your back to see if one side of your higher back/shoulder blades is higher than the other. If so, you most likely do have scoliosis

    • @nabi2485
      @nabi2485 Před 3 lety +1

      @@ashleyg8947 just did the experiment, one side is higher than the other. Thank you sm for the info, also do you know how I could fix this?

    • @ashleyg8947
      @ashleyg8947 Před 3 lety +5

      @@nabi2485 scoliosis doesn't have a fix, however there are treatment methods that can help stabilize your curve to prevent it from getting worse until your spine stops growing. I recommend the schroth method and bracing if you're qualified. You can try looking up schroth therapists near your location, but they'll most likely need an x-ray of your spine in order to create an exercise routine meant for your scoliosis curve since everyone's is different. Core exercises are important for scoliosis too (but make sure you find the ones that won't hurt your spine) along with being active, taking vitamin D3, magnesium, and fish oil supplements if suggested by your doctor, maintaining good posture, keeping a healthy diet, and sleeping in the correct positions (back is best, but if you sleep on ur sides then use a body pillow in between your legs and a pillow underneath the side your spine curves downwards once you know the directions your spine curves. Sleeping on your stomach is THE WORST for scoliosis, so be sure you don't do this) on ideally medium to firm mattresses to support your spine since scoliosis can suddenly get worse at night especially. Scoliosis is a huge responsibility that nobody asks for, so I wish you luck on your journey as I'm still on mine :)) there's probably some other things I forgot to add about taking care of your spine, so if I remember I'll add another comment :))

    would this help with my scoliosis or not? and why?

    • @AlignTherapyUtah
      @AlignTherapyUtah  Před 7 lety +2

      I don't like situps for scoliosis because it puts your spine in a rounded position, which maximizes the rotation in the spine. It also puts a lot of strain on the back. I would much rather do things you can stay closer to neutral with. Thanks for the question!
