  • Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is known widely as a poisonous plant on which Monarch butterflies depend.
    But the truth is, many parts of this plant are edible, so long as they are treated properly as demonstrated in the video. This is a useful skill to know for any nature lover, bushcrafter, survivalist, or prepper. Don't let yourself pass up a good food source!
    What is Adventure Bushraft? A series of short cinematic videos in which we do a small walk with some sort of bushcraft activity - processing wood, using plants, making shelters, etc.

      Thanks! Same goes for you. And I agree, plant ID/knowing how to use plants is huge.

    Every time I watch one of your videos, I learn at least one thing new, and on your longer videos, many things. I assume the seasonings you used in the jars were Chinese seasonings. It was hard to hear because you seemed so far away from the mike/camera. But I think one of things you said was chili bean sauce?

    What is the Genus Name for the Milkweed you're eating the pods of?

    • @criscoleman
      @criscoleman Před 2 lety +1

      This appears to be Common Milkweed. There are 17 species in the genus Asclepias in Missouri. The one most similar to common milkweed is purple milkweed, but its flowers are darker and more purplish, and its pods lack slender warty projections. Flowers are pink to lilac, very fragrant, borne in clusters terminally and along the stems, arising from leaf axils. Leaves are broadly elliptical, rounded at the base, to 6 inches long, with fine hairs underneath, on distinct leaf stalks.
