Welcome to 2018! This is my first video posed using my new camera, a Panasonic Linux DMC-LX15. Previously, night flights were almost not worth filming as my iPhone wasn’t able to deliver acceptable image quality. So this is a mainly experimental trip report; I’m testing out the capabilities of the camera here, and just seeing what it can do.
I’ve no idea why the Business Class Upgrade was given to me. The flight wasn’t full and I don’t have any sort of status with CSA. You’ll notice there’s only one row of Business: me and one other passenger. However the curtain divider only goes forward as far as Row 2, so strangely there was a row of economy class in the “mini cabin” with us.
Also really surprising that our flight, at 2105, was the last of the evening. Birmingham is a reasonably busy airport and I would have expected flights to run a lot later than that!
Overall, a decent flight with a meal. It’s always good to have a gin and tonic in the air!

Some notes/observations about this video.
1) Wind noise - I have a muff for the microphone, but I forgot it! Whoops.
2) Bumpy video - iPhone has brilliant image stabilisation which most cameras don’t have. So, with this camera, some footage is a bit bumpy. I’m going to buy a stabiliser.
3) Maps and timestamps - I’m going to add these in to future trip reports in the next couple of months to provide some more context to the trip.
4) I mention in the intro this is a 4K video, but despite being filmed in 4K it seems to have a maximum resolution of 1440p.
Paul's Trip Reports I'm 100% sure you will be able to fix all these problems soon. It always takes some time with a brand new camera ;)
4k option shows for me, sometimes takes a while for youtube to process it and make available.
Also get a Gimbal.

Hi Paul, always better to film 4k so that when we view at 1080p on our mobiles, compressed image ends up more crisp :)

I think you got the upgrade because of someone within Czech Airlines knows about your CZcams channel.... ;-)
A word of caution for the other subscribers/viewers... actually watching in 4K is not advised for those who's internet plan contains a bandwidth limit. When a couple other creators I follow upgraded to 4K last year, I blew through nearly 120Gb of data in 4 evenings.

I've started doing a lot more travelling since seeing these videos.Even a train from Northampton to London feels a bit less mundane.The videos give everyone an idea of comfort levels certainly.Although after being on Ryanair any plane feels like an Emirates plane.BiFi Roll on the menu, the German version of the Peperami.Nice.
I like you videos no matter it's in HD, full HD or 4k but the best best upgrade 2018 is to see you smiling and relax vlogging, thats was something missing in your videos, now it's fine, congrats!

It's so lovely to hear my main language in the background 😍 I'm honestly really sad that CSA is not doing so well rn, back then, they were prospering, had a lot of aircrafts, nice staff (inc. my mum 😅) but now it's not as good anymore
And btw, that apple and cinnamon thing you were given for dessert is štrůdl (strudel), it's a puff pastry filled with various types of fruit, sometimes curd, but it can also be salty with some kind of cheese and ham or basically anything else. Typical Czech thing and we love it here
I very much enjoy traveling "with you". Been terrified for years ever since the plane I was in went down in the Rockies on the way to a skiing vacation. Hanging out with you has got me thinking it's time to go back to Paris !!! TY !!

Interesting to seethis Paul. I gather I shouldn't go out of my way to grab a Czech Airlines ticket next time I go. Great small camera presumably with a shoulder mount. I tried a GoPro but couldn't quite enjoy using it although for my bicycle trips that's exactly what is needed (I had clips in Malta givng bumpy views of my hands and handle bars!). I like to see what I'm taking and set up engaging shots which is what you are managing all the time. Thanks for sharing your travels!

Good one! I'm always a little disappointed when "Business Class" is really just economy with that weird table thing stuck in the centre seat. Here in Canada Westjet does that and the table thing takes up so much space I'd almost prefer the removed it and just let someone sit there! Also that dessert looked like a strudel to me.
The whole “middle seat” thing is completely standard here in Europe. However, premium fares are a bit lower.

David Wilder I can 100% recommend the transit hotel. They have 24 hour food, big rooms, the beds were comfortable and it was pretty cheap as well.
" Not sure what this is - an apple and cinnamon roll of sorts " - The best " cake " what you can have and homemade is absolutely tasty :) How I it missing in England :D ( really, you don ´t have this word, but similliar is " apple pie " )
Nice! Lucky you!! For stability, go online to the camera website and check out the help section. Pretty sure there is setting combo for stabilisation on the majority of cameras and you'll save yourself a fortune!

Hi Paul, enjoyed your videos ... you include all the details which is very useful for other travellers ... curious if you ever visit Zaragoza in northern Spain ? I did stansted direct on Ryanair and Gatwick to Barcelona + Renfe train... the one I didn’t do was Southampton to Zaragoza via Beauvais + Orly ... maybe you fancy doing this trip and filming a trip report ?
Zaragoza is a great place to visit ... I would recommend Easter time.

I still film all my trip reports with my phone. What I found from using my real camera is people kept telling me off and asking why I was taking pictures etc, that was around 2 years ago, from then on I just used my phone which does shoot in 4K and since then people just think i'm not doing much and just taking a few pictures on my phone because people seem to view that as normal lol.
So that's really the main reason I still use my phone.

The desert with apples and cinnamon is called Štrůdl (in Czech) or Strudel (in German) and it's from Austria. ;)
Stunning quality even in low light! Great trip report
jablečný štrůdl, Czech style, just like grammy used to make! Have a look at the DJI Osmo Action camera - it has it's own propriety stabilisation, called Rock Solid which I've been using now for a few months with great success. Also shoots in 4K.
Very nice mate, the jump in quality is quite noticeable, like you say just need to fix that bit of shake and it'll be even better.
Quality much better, can you do more daylight trips where we can see more, most train and plane interiors look very similar. I use your Vids to look for places to go tips and what transport to use

I thought that the Camera resolution was superb Paul, notwithstanding auto focus and stability. . I had to laugh to myself when you showed the snacks menu, and there was a 'snickers' bar priced at 1 euro fifty cents. . . I'd just re-watched 'Sully' . . .and at the hotel, Jeff Skiles says to Sully, "Can you believe five dollars for a snickers ? " ! ! ! Only downside with HD cam isthat you can't skimp on shaving. . .( ! )

I looked up that creamer, and was surprised to see that it actually contains milk :D - most of the ones I see in shops are some colored water shit - I have no idea why people buy them home instead of regular milk/cream.
Big fan of your videos paul and have been for quite some time! One route id definitely recommend to you is the Glasgow to Barra flight with Loganair, it’s short and expensive but the landing you get on Barra beach is 2nd to none!
