    The trees are awesome, it is amazing how easily you multiply plants. I love Junipers almost as much as you love maples. I think I will have quite a few more Junipers, now.
    I do have another question. Have you ever successfully separated vertical airlayerings, one atop the other?

    I have about 6 junipers, 15 years old, planted in soil outside that I want to air root. Their trunks are about 4 feet long. Can I air root more than 1 at a time per trunk? Do you need to water moss before wrapping it up and once it's done rooting and you pot it into moss how often do you water it? When do you pot it into soil? Lots of??? Thanks again for sharing this! I absolutely 💯 ♄ your channel!!!

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 Pƙed rokem +8

      You can but if you are not an expert dont try it because if you are too severe with the bottom air layering the top one won't get enough moisture of nutrient to survive.

  • @ntwebster
    @ntwebster Pƙed rokem +1

    I’m always astonished at how easily he does this and his success rate. I have never succeeded in any of my air layerings. In fact, my most recent attempt failed and I nearly killed the whole tree (it’s in ICU right now).

    • @JTandLittleB
      @JTandLittleB Pƙed rokem

      Try ground layering, it’s easier bc you don’t have to worry about controlling moisture. Scratch the branch, cover it with soil and put something on top to keep it down. Water occasional or leave it be depending on location. I did this with my rose and hydrangea, actually I have a video on my rose result if you’re interested.

    It’s refreshing to hear someone say it’s ok to air layer throughout the year. I like to practice and experiment. I do so on all kinds of trees. I have one pine I use for just grafting practices. It’s has 30+ grafts put on its. It will never win any awards but it holds a large variety of genetic material including Pinus Sylvestris Beuvronensis which is for some reason very rare in the US. I found one at the local botanical garden and borrowed a tiny cutting which I grafted. I have also collected many varieties of cork bark pines all grafted on my practice pine. Grafts may do better in early summer but I have lots of them that have taken during other times of the year as well. I finally got a Japanese black pine to root from air layering. It’s taken about a year to do so. I’ll probably separate the tree once it warms up a bit in spring. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm.
