Lima to Detroit Cab Ride 1960s (B&O, NYC)

- Not much is known about this trip other than I strongly suspect it was an NRHS fan trip, plus it appears to be from the perspective of an RDC. And remember, 50' 8mm film reels only lasted about three and a half minutes. Constant recording was impossible as nothing was recorded between Alexis tower in Toledo and Detroit. This ride was from Lima to Detroit (and possibly return?) over the B&O Toledo Division and New York Central to the Michigan Central depot in Detroit. Date is no earlier than May of '66 which was when the diamond at XN in Leipsic was removed.

In the 1970s, I lived probably 400 feet away from this track in Ottawa Ohio.
Fantastic scenes, I love seeing the complex trackwork that existed in passenger days.
This is probably 1966 as there is one of the brand new DT&I GP38's, the first GP 38's built in 1966. It also appears that the DT&I crossover at Leipsic has just been removed. The DT&I abandoned this parallel trackage and used B&O trackage rights beginning in 1966.
Glad someone took the time to film all this. Movie film wasn't cheap! Bet those Dispatchers loved the lapped sidings as trains got longer in the 60's! Thanks for uploading this!
The lap siding at Cairo is still there (still CPL signaled!). The one at Ottawa has been cut back, though.
@@RailroadMediaArchive Wow I'll have to drive over there. I didn't know the cpls were still up! Thanks!
Awesome footage!
Thanks for posting!
That was nice seeing an open-air autorack.
With brand new 1965 (or 1966) Mustangs!!!
Incredible footage many thanks

After meeting the Cincinnatian, it was SE Custar, NE Weston, SE Tontogany, NE Haskins, then Perry (Perrysburg). End of video was back in Toledo between Swan Creek and the station, then back onto the B&O up to the NE of Rossford Yard.
@@rick3524 thanks!
Great video of the pre-merger 60’s when the railroad industry was still doing well. Wonder how many tracks shown in this video are still there
Pretty much everything still exists except Rossford Yard in Toledo.
new 65? Mustangs at 01:05? also great to see the line up thru Deshler.
7:47 is the Livernois yard, coaling tower is still there.
B&O Rossford Yard
Great film. What kind of engine were you in? B&O?, C&O? Or N&W?
I didn't take this. I don't know. I suspect an RDC.
@@RailroadMediaArchive Yeah, I suspect the person who filmed this is in their late 70s, 80s, or beyond. I mean, we’re assuming this was 58 years ago?
@@df20001 this was taken by Joe Slanser who died in 2018 (aged 85).
This is clear block productions footage. What video is this from? It’s shot out of the RDC car from Cincinnati to Detroit
I don't know what video this would have been on. This was the raw transfer of film to tape.
@@RailroadMediaArchive interesting, I know clear block used the footage of the dt&i diesels I. The vignettes of the dt&i
@@jackwatts9969 good to know - thanks.
