    Backstory to this car - This was my parents car. It had a bad water leak and it used to overheat so they took it to a garage and they replaced the header tank as the old one had cracked. It went through loads of water even after this I think, so the tank didn't help very much! The brakes needed doing & the radio screen was playing up (about 1/3rd in the middle of the screen is just blank) and then the engine started making an awful noise so they assumed the engine was knackered especially with the water leak and they didn't want to spend any more money on it after all these problems in a short amount of time. They have downsized anyway and don't use the car very much, & just wanted to get rid of it to be honest. Would recommend Rob and Chris for any salvage, messaged them and they came straight away the next day to collect. Thanks Rob & Chris! :)

    Had one of these for 3 years - almost the exact same spec and colour except it was the 1.4 diesel.
    Amazing mileage, only ever minor issues with it for the most part.
    Ultimately, it developed an issue with the electrics in the driver side door and it caused the alarm to go off all the time. I probably could have sorted it but I wanted something with cruise control and android auto. I do miss it sometimes though, my Fabia estate was an absolute trooper for the entire time I owned it.

    From what I know, those header tanks/coolant resevoirs on these VW engines get replaced as the level sensor inside them tend to fail quite early on, and the entire tank needs to be replaced as the sensors are molded into the plastic.

    Another great video, and £1495 all day long. A customer of mine years ago was a VW dealer. I turned up, and all the signage had changed to Skoda. 2 years later, 'Skodas are way, way, better built than VWs. People never bring them back any more'. If you work in a Czech car factory, you have a higher standing than Fritz in the German factory, was the theory...

    The amount of heat, several hundreds of degrees, needed to warp a brake disk is incredible and won't happen even if the car is driven fast and badly.
    The most common problem is that the calipers have not been cleaned out when the pads have been changed. But easily checked using a run-out gauge.

    Rob - assuming there is no gas in the system, add some compressed air via the low side air con port. If you put say 100 psi into the system, you should be able to hear the leak (if there is one). You can then spray soapy water into the general area to pinpoint exactly where the leak is.

    • @sruk
      @sruk  Před 3 lety +1

      You shouldn’t put compressed air in an air-conditioning system bud you need to use nitrogen 👍

    • @broomad
      @broomad Před 3 lety +1

      @@sruk Yes Rob - you are right in an ideal world but no-one has nitrogen lying about.
      Compressed air contains moisture but this can be removed when pulling a vacuum to add the refrigerant. Plus, if there is a leak, there is already moisture in the system so you are not making the situation any worse :-)

    The "2" is the trim level but coincidentally it's also a 2nd generation Fabia :P

    Great to see the Skoda rides again.
    Too often these more budget brand cars get overlooked, so it's good to see a proper job being done on a run of the mill machine.
    Keep up the good work guy's 👍

    Funny that the expansion bottle was new maybe had another leaking pipe and someone snapped the outlet. No mention of any replacement tyres. Nice car actually looks better than Fabia hatchback. Spare might have been an extra cost option with only a puncture repair kit

    Pretty sure you'll find that most brake disc's don't warp. They have variations in thickness and this can be solved with on car skimming as long as they're not below min thickness. I've had this with new discs too. A quick skim all but removes those variations and the vibes disappear.

    I live in Ontario Canada and I went to a DIY car wash and done the outside of my S Type Jaguar and it cost $3 dollars, High pressure soapy wash, rinse and wax. ten pond sound a bit high but you got a good car there, stay safe you two.

    £1500 is a good price for a car of that age with a year's MoT. I can't remember if you replaced the worn tyre, which I would probably do if I was selling it, but neither here nor there really. I can't believe the previous owner didn't get it sorted, but your gain.
