- Here is a look at the Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Orginal in 40mm. This watch has a lot going on, including a unique crown protector, tritium lume sandwiched on the dial and bezel insert, and lots of shock protection built into the watch and the COSC movement. Also a lot of high polish.

I have this model of watch. Great quality and very comfortable to wear. night time luminescence is off the scale. I like it’s understated looks. It’s a great watch.

Glad you did a review on Ball. They do have some great models and I think they are under appreciated. I also believe their over engineering can be a turnoff. I’m waiting for my Trainmaster lume to fade, been about 6 years, still shines bright.
I have one and its surprisingly wearable as an everyday watch. I think its just about subtle enough design wise to not be too much. It is also tough. I got knocked off my bike by a car wearing this and it hit the tarmac. Small dent to the bezel (barely noticeable) and one clasp pin bent and that was all. Remains in COSC spec timing wise.
I saw they made a 43mm case version of this which got me really intrigued.
The flip-over crown guard concerns me.

Too much going on with this one, although I do applaud the originality with the tritium, unusual crown guards and other style choices. The GMT you’re waiting on looks much more appealing to me and my tastes.
Yep it’s definitely not for everyone, as it is a more forward design, but still a cool piece. Hopefully the GMT outlier will be in for review in a month or two. 👍
I have an older chronograph version of this. The tritium tubes are dust now. I always think the height to diameter ratio is a tad off on ball watches.
Crown guards remind me of an ugly spoiler on the trunk of a Civic. I really like T25 Tritium on a couple watches I own. Good luck on getting the GMT.
Why can the bezel be turned?
Sorry but not sure what you are asking here? The bezel turns because it’s dive watch and the bezel is marked to be able to time things.
