- Birmingham City Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former striker Christian 'Chucho' Benitez.
The thoughts of all associated with the football club are with Chucho's family and friends at this very sad time.
Here is a look at the big impact the diminutive Ecuadorian made at St. Andrew's during a record breaking 2009/10 season. - Sport
I'm a Villa fan, but I want to pay my respects to Chucho and acknowledge the player he was. The whole football world was devastated by his death, but this just shows how much football means to people. All rivalries aside, the whole world mourned this young mans life and that really proves that football is more than just a game.

Makes me sad to watch these videos of Christian Benitez and to just get a glimpse of what a smashing little player he was.
Having gone to all the games on the unbeaten run that year he was a pleasure to watch, the excitement I would get before a match knowing he was in the line up was great and we felt like we could win against everyone with Chucho
His technical ability and speed was something else which other teams could not handle and another year or two he would of played at the top.

Wow 7 years on and this popped up, a major player during one of our most successful periods in prem, Cameron Jerome achieved his best return of goals in a season for Blues with Chucho in the team, absolute tragedy for this lovely guy to be taken so young and in his prime, god bless you Mr Benitez thank you for the memories.

Thanks Birmingham for that detail about a great player and person we cant understand how quick he left us it was still young and with many years to show his talent he was on top of his career ready to come back to europe but for some reason he preffered to go to middle east every one has their own desicions but this one this time cost a lot and is a huge hit in the ecuadorian national team. I am a Villa fan but when tragic things happen, teams unite as one, to pay their respects for such an unfortunate player to lose his life at 27!
