  • Namaskar everyone!! Our WoW team has envisaged North Karnataka's most cherished fesitivity of the farmers-"Sheege Hunnime"
Mother Earth is the lifeblood of the peasant class. She is everything. There is a festival where she is also worshiped and adored. That is Seege/Seegi Full Moon or Bhumi Full Moon. This full moon celebration is different from one place to another. A mother who sows a seed and gives a thousand and a thousand seeds is Mother Earth. In Indian agricultural heritage, agricultural land is considered as mother. This full moon celebration is celebrated in different ways in Karnataka. Especially in North Karnataka, the festival is right for the farmers. It is known as the day of appeasing the all-merciful Mother Earth by spreading 'charaga chelluva' (some kind of food) on the full moon day. On the other hand, it is also said to be a borderline moment for Mother Earth. However, the meaning of the ritual of both is the same, so the belief is the same.
THE LEGENDS OF SHEEGE HUNNIME :
Pandavas are enshrined in the main part of the field on the day before the full moon. Another stone is also placed as the thief's stone. Set the five stones in order, they themselves are worshiped as Pancha Pandavas. Those stones are painted with lime and dot of red clay is placed. They are worshiped the next day. There is a ritual of seating a thief with these Pandavas. An offering is made to all of them in Banni ele. It is also a tradition in North Karnataka. Pancha Kallu is worshiped in the hope that the harvest of the land will be good, protection from insects and loss will not occur. On the other hand, this festival also indicates the status of the Pandavas of Mahabharata.
    The practice of shedding clothes.
The most important work of the festival is the shedding of charga on the day of the full moon. We give back what Bhutai has given us to shed Charaga. It is also called the boundary of Mother Earth. In the morning, whatever food you want to offer to Bhutai in the form of offering, put them raw in an earthen pot, that is, mix all the vegetables, flour, grain, raw oil, go to the field, say "Hooligo hooligo hooligo.." and throw charaga. Gullagai is also used when charaga is shed.
    Different types of food :
The girls of the house are busy cooking for this festival from four in the morning. Karchikai, corn flour dumplings, pundi palya, chawali kai, kempindi kara, eggplant, chutney, curd, fried dabagai chili, groundnut holige, sesame holige, rice, broth, kadak roti, chapati, curd and so on are prepared. All these are tied like a basket in a basket full of moonshine. The stone Pandavas and thieves are first offered in the form of offerings, and the whole family sits down and eats together.
